Chapter 36: Chapter 36
[Class 1A]
The events of earlier this morning had the first period of the day free, as the teachers went into an unplanned meeting, leaving most students free for the time being. Of course, curiosity got the better of the rest of the class, and they began asking questions. Katsuki Bakugou was more than happy to divulge information while making sure they knew he was simply better.
"None of you here could do what I did, not even you 3in1! "
Bakugou exclaimed boldly as he finished masterfully telling them the story of his victory over the Rogue robot, His pride was present in his voice and gait as he spoke.
"Alright, alright Little dynamite, no need to exaggerate, I took down an actual villain, not some robot, we aren't the same"
Taro was the first to disagree with the claim made by Bakugou, or rather, everyone else expected him to, so they waited for him to speak, and he did not disappoint.
"Don't flatter yourself 3 piece, you took down a villain that was already fighting two other heroes, while I had a 1 on 1"
Bakugou responded and used his hand to wave away Taro's comment, almost as if saying it did not matter
"You took down a robot, a pile of scraps and metal, I could have that, much faster even"
The two began to start arguing about who could do what and how fast, while the rest of the class tuned them out and began their own discussion, letting their argument become background noise.
Their arguments were something the rest of the class was already used to. However, Kirishima kept an eye on them in case someone decided to throw a punch.
"I think it's obvious now, who are the two strongest in the class"
Toru said from her seat, her elbows placed atop the desk and her hands on her cheeks, supporting her head while she watched Taro argue with Bakugou, mild amusement on her face.
"Although between the two of them, I'd say Taro is the stronger one, Robots aren't as dangerous as a giant villain"
Mina took Taro's side; in her head, she just couldn't imagine the robot Bakugou faced being stronger than the villain Taro took down, mostly because she saw the villain, but she hadn't seen the robot.
"I think so too, the robot wasn't programmed to kill us and was for just training, so I don't think it would have been able to kill Bakugou"
Kaminari agreed with Mina, however Jiro who had been sitting next to him, seemed to disagree
"like Bakugou said, the villain Taro faced was already fighting two heroes before Taro and was probably tired, plus Taro did a surprise attack"
She said she also considered how Taro took down the villain by surprise, she didn't believe it would be that easy for Taro to take down the same villain again.
"A simple malfunctioning robot isn't the same as a giant that needed two heroes to defeat"
Ochako added her own thoughts to the discussion, feeling that if the villain needed two villains to handle and it took a third party to handle then it was a little more powerful than just a training robot that malfunctioned
"While talking about is riveting and all, I feel we need to discuss the malfunctioned robot a bit more, tell me I'm not the only one not convinced it was a simple malfunction"
Iida decided to move the conversation a little more toward a serious direction; he was unconvinced about what Aizawa had told them regarding the incident; not only that, but this was UA University, the number 1 hero school in Japan; it's not the type of school where equipment just malfunctions.
"Isn't that a common thing with robots though? I'm sure I've seen a plot line like that from a movie"
"Kaminari, this is UA University, they have the best technicians in Japan"
"so?"
"He's right, Kaminari; this type of thing is usually prevented long before it even happens; there are regular maintenance checkups on the equipment, system updates, and so on to ensure something like a "simple malfunction" doesn't happen, so why would it happen now."
Momo explained, and the class suddenly quieted down, letting her words sink in and making the rest of them start considering the issue a little bit more seriously.
"Mr. Aizawa didn't say, this was a common thing that happens, if he did UA wouldn't be one of the top schools in Japan, of course, there's a first time for everything but what's more likely to me is that someone caused the malfunction"
She continued to explain, and the light-hearted atmosphere in the room suddenly shifted, becoming more serious, and a little bit of tension entered the room.
Momo's eyes shifted towards her brother as her mind connected the incident with the robot to the incident that happened with the press a week prior; her mind connecting the dots and the possible reasons for why these things were happening began forming in her head.
"I understand your explanation and suspicion, Momo, but I think it's best to let the teachers handle this; if it's really an issue, I'm sure they'll tell the students about it."
Tsuyu countered, choosing to advise everyone to let this issue be handled by the teachers who are actually heroes and know what's going on. She also didn't see the need for students to discuss the matter, considering that they wouldn't be involved in solving it.
"That's boring, while I enjoy getting a week off, while the teachers handle the situation, I'd rather fight villains than sit around"
Taro commented, if there was one aspect about heroes that he liked, it would be the part that involves fighting villains.
"I don't think that's the right mindset, Taro. Tsuyu is right, the teachers are the actual heroes here, this has nothing to do with us and the school being suspended for another week just means more training for me, I may not have fought a villain or a robot but I don't think I'm any less strong than you and Bakugou"
Todoroki spoke, his voice still carrying that deep monotone. His words regarding leaving this issue to the teachers received nods from the rest of the class. Everyone knew they were yet to be heroes, so it was better to let actual heroes handle the issue, and not try to get involved.
"Keep dreaming, Icy Hot. You're nowhere near close to me, so you're delusional if you think you can beat me!"
Todoroki was going to make a rebuttal; however, his words never left his throat as Mina quickly interjected.
"Alright enough with the strongest talk, let's talk about what's really important, like that little date Taro and Toru had yesterday"
The pink girl had decided to change the subject, as she was reminded of yesterday.
"It wasn't a date!"
The two quickly denied it; however, that only invited amused chuckles from the rest of the class.
"I mean, both of you were alone together for a really long time so…"
Ochako started and trailed off, not finishing her sentence and letting the rest of the class fill in the blanks. Her words caused Toru's cheeks to change into a shade of pink and her body to slowly become transparent.
"Exactly! There's no use denying it, your–"
Unfortunately, before Mina could manage to finish her sentence, Aizawa walked into the classroom.
"Alright, settle down. Taro, you're due to help move the debris in gym gamma during lunchtime"
"What!!"
Just as Taro was going to breathe a sigh of relief and silently thank Mr Aizawa for ending the teasing before it began, he found himself loudly exclaiming in surprise at the sudden announcement.
"That's your punishment; you didn't think we forgot, did you?"
Aizawa asked; his face was neutral, and his voice monotone; however, he enjoyed the look of shock on the young man's face.
Taro could not argue; instead, he could only grumble in silent regret. Although he was sort of glad, at least now he could get the punishment and then have it out of the way, instead of having it hanging over his head.
"Alright, students, despite the little malfunction this morning, your classes are expected to continue as usual; however, in 3 days, we'll be having a little field trip."
He announced before pausing and letting his words settle into the class, the plan left a bad taste in his mouth however for the time being they didn't have a better plan, they had very few leads, and there were no signs of the UA network being hacked, it really did look like a malfunction but he knew better, all the other teachers knew better.
"A field trip?!"
A few of the students sounded, some of them getting excited at the mention of a field trip. However, before he answered, Aizawa first let his gaze sweep across the class, individually taking a look at the students.
From what All Might has shared about the combat capabilities of the class, it looked like at least half of them were smart and competent enough that should the plan go awry, they should be able to handle themselves.
'hopefully, it won't come to that'
"Yes, we'll be going to the Unforeseen Simulation Joint, to help you get a feel of rescue training'
He answered that this was an already planned field trip; originally, Thirteen was going to be the one to teach the students about Rescue training; however, things had to be changed just a little.
While the other students began asking questions about the unforeseen simulation Joint, Momo couldn't help finding it odd. She figured the teachers also suspect foul play and that it wasn't a simple malfunction so why a field trip?
"hmm"
She hummed silently to herself while trying to figure out what the teachers were up to.
