MHA : Rabbit & Spider

Chapter 15: MHA : Chapter 15 : Back In The Swing Of Things III

Adrenaline or not, though, today had been great. That feeling of air on his face? The lack of gravity he felt and seeing how high above everything else he was? God, it was magic. While it didn't carry that sense of responsibility or righteous purpose that he had during patrol, it just felt fun.

The most fun he's had in a while.

...

Man, he should get some hobbies. If all the enjoyment in his life relied on Spider-Man he might get burnt out quickly. You know? it was kinda funny, Peter had started to feel the burnout from being Spider-Man nonstop after the first month, only being carried through the rest of the patrols up to his arrest on the belief that 'He had to do it'.

Was that unhealthy? He should ask scarf man, maybe he knew. He gave off 'Incredibly unhealthy working habits but won't admit they're unhealthy out of pure stubbornness' type of vibes, kinda like him!

Peter shivered at finding he had something in common with Aizawa, he wanted to keep their relationship strictly 'Annoying person/Annoyed person' for now.

The American's gaze fell down toward the streets below, he saw some guy with balls on his head being cornered against a wall by a bunch of 2-Ps, people were simply running past in the search of points. Wait, was that dude crying? Oh my God, he was! Peter had to help him now!

"Alright, time to do whatever a spider can!" He flipped off the building roof, falling what felt like 12 stories and expertly landing on a 2-P, crushing it under his weight. It was incredible how soft these robots were.

A robot swung at him, he flipped and dodged the swipe after feeling the ringing of his Spider-Sense, sometimes he'd wonder where he'd be without it.

Probably dead, but he doesn't wanna think about that part.

He landed in a crouch, quickly springing up toward the robot and driving most of his body through its chest. Rolling the landing, he groaned and got up only to be met with that ringing sensation he knew so well.

The ground shook, the creaking and groaning of metal filled the air as a low hum echoed through the city. The sound reminded Peter of something.

Back when he was tuning out Present Mic's explanation, the guy said something about a '0-P' that should be avoided and only acted as an obstacle. And judging by the building-sized military green robot with the number '0' painted on its chest…

That was the 0-P he was talking about.

"Shit." He cursed under his breath, he looked back to see that short kid he helped was already booking it down the street in an effort to flee from that mountain of metal. Peter couldn't blame him but a 'Thanks' would've been nice before he ran away.

The street he stood on broke out into a panic, teens all around him running in a mad dash to try and get to safety. Peter was about to do the same in a less scared manner until he saw something that nearly made him sigh out loud.

A group of what should be about 9 people just standing, and he cannot stress this enough, just standing in front of that thing, not trying to run away. "Why can't anyone else help people for a change, huh? why does it have to be me ?" He groaned to himself, shooting a web and swinging toward the giant killer robot thingymajig.

"Hey! Coming through! Watch out! I'm swinging here!" He yelled in English as he swung through the crowd, lifting himself on the web line and moving his body in an awkward angle to try and dodge the scared people running away. He never did good in crowded areas, anyway. The boy swung until landing on the side of a building.

Sticking to the wall and using it as a springboard, he launched himself toward the group of scared exam takers, he saw that 2 of them had already started running, which was good. He also saw that the rest were still frozen in fear, which was bad.

"Hey! Guys! You gotta move, man! There's a killer robot and all, c'mon!" The teen yelled, grabbing a hold of a guy with a weird-looking chin and a girl with small wings on her back, putting them under his arms, and started to leap a safe distance away.

It seemed to bring them back to reality since they started screaming on the spot and scrambling away the second he put them on the ground, why did saving people have to be so difficult? Couldn't they just give him something to work with and like, have some self-preservation?

But judging by how there were still 5 people standing there in front of the giant robot, apparently not! Man, was he tired right now, he's been sent through at least 7 windows today.

That tends to take a lot out of someone, you know?

Peter started sprinting toward the group of frozen teens, the ground shaking with every step the 0-P took. It was getting closer and closer to them, Peter pushed himself to run faster so he'd reach them first. God, why weren't they moving ?

The 0-P was almost on top of them, Peter had to do something! The debris it was creating was dangerous enough, but how does he stop it from crushing someone? He needed to think, why couldn't they just move ?!

Out of nowhere, the stupidest idea he's ever had in his life struck him. He might get incredibly hurt but it'd be working, his spider-sense blared as a way to tell him to not do it.

Sadly he didn't listen.

The boy shot a web and swung up into the sky, the wind on his face as the creaking of metal filled his ears, practically deafening him. He swung frantically, trying to reach the 0-P before it got too close to the people below, why couldn't he just run away? Responsibility sucks.

Once he got close enough, he started to swing around it in a downward fashion, lightly binding him in thin layers of webbing and then swinging back up, reapplying those layers and increasing the thickness. Sadly, he knew it wouldn't be enough.

He knew he'd have to actually hold the thing back, the webbing would only make sure it didn't move as much and caused more property damage than it already was causing. Now, did he think he could do it?

He honestly didn't know.

the most strength he's had to use was one time he stopped a runaway car carrying drugs by planting his feet on the road and slowing it down, the memory made him wince.

But this wasn't a car, this was a building-sized robot made by the best and most well-funded school in the country. It easily towered over the 160-foot buildings of the testing site, so Peter could only assume it weighed dozens of tons. But, was he gonna try anyway cause it'll help people?

Yeah, 'cause that's what responsibility means.

He shot webs at the buildings around him and connected them to the villain's back, it staggered for a second before starting to turn around. Peter connected what felt like 30 strands of webbing to the robot, he did another downward swing around it and landed on the ground.

Alright, now he just had to hold it off!

Shit, now he just has to hold it off!

'Alright, Parker! Maximum effort, c'mon! You got this, you got this, you got this, you got this, you got this!' He shot two webs at the 0-P's shin, grabbed onto them with all the strength that stupid spider gave him, stuck his feet to the ground, and hoped for the best.

It worked for about, half a second? He wasn't sure, maybe it was even less than that All he was sure of was how his muscles started screaming in pain.

He grit his teeth and held on.

The webs around him snapped, he was starting to lose ground as the robot slowly pulled him along. God, everything hurt.

"30 seconds remaining, listeners! Time's almost up!" Present Mic's voice went unheard

He shot more webs to replace the old ones, grit his teeth, and held on.

The metal creature gave what must have been a roar as it tried its best to move forward, pulling Peter even further along. The concrete under his feet cracked as he screamed in pain, the sounds being drowned out by the groaning of steel.

"13 seconds! You guys better have gotten lots of points!" Peter wish the guy could just shut up . Why was everything so loud ? And why were the people still not moving ?!

He tightened his grip on the web-lines held in each hand, planted his feet firmly in the ground no matter how much his leg muscles burned, grit his teeth, and held on.

"5 Seconds!!!"

The robot was giving much more resistance now, Peter could hear his heartbeat in his ears and his breath become strained.

"4 Seconds!!!"

His hands were going numb, why did he have to go with fingerless gloves? He gave a primal yell as he tightened his grip even if he couldn't feel it.

"3 Seconds!!!"

The feeling in his legs was starting to go, as well. Why couldn't something be going for him right now? He dug his feet into the pavement, dragging a trench across the street as he continued to slowly lose ground.

"2 Seconds!!!"

He was so tired right now, probably the most tired he's ever felt. Couldn't he just go to sleep? Couldn't he just let go and be done with it? Responsibly sucked.

"1 Second!!!"

Peter screamed in pain, all his muscles screamed along with him. His body burned and cried due to the overexertion he was putting himself through, but he knew he couldn't stop now.

If he stopped, people might get hurt.

So he grit his teeth.

And held on.

The robot suddenly stopped giving resistance and powered down, hanging its head low as the light in its eyes went dark.

"And we're done! Good job everybody! Thank you for coming to the UA entrance exam and your results will be mailed to you next week!"

Numb hands let go of the web, and an aching body fell onto the rough ground. It might as well have been a bed for all he cared. Peter could faintly hear the voice of an old woman calling out to him, but he only closed his eyes.

He could finally rest, even if it was for a little while.

He had long since lost consciousness when she finally reached him.
