MHA: SHADOWS IN UA

Chapter 11: Settling Into Academia (3)

The morning sky glowed in shades of orange, casting a golden hue over the city.

The sunlight bled into the hallway that stretched endlessly, illuminating the polished floor.

Despite the early hour, the corridor buzzed with chatter as students gathered in small groups.

Their voices blended into the background, barely audible over the sharp clicks of approaching footsteps.

A tall girl walking toward a classroom door, drawing the attention of several male students as she passed.

She had a naturally elegant presence, her posture straight, her movements fluid.

Her well developed figure gave her a mature appearance that set her apart from others.

The morning light kissed her smooth skin, emphasizing the natural grace in every step she took.

Her long, jet-black hair, tied into a spiky ponytail, swayed gently behind her, with a thick strand falling over the right side of her face, framing her refined features.

Her black eyes, sharp yet warm, carried an intensity that spoke of both intelligence and quiet determination.

There was an effortless beauty to her.

Momo Yaoyorozu exhaled softly as she neared the classroom door, clutching her bag with an unusual urgency.

"Five minutes late. Even though class starts in twenty minutes, this isn't like me."

The echo of her footsteps quickened, but she caught herself.

Rushing would be unsightly, a future hero must always carry themselves with composure.

She slowed her pace, taking a steady breath as she made her way towards the gigantic door indicating her class.

She had yet to analyse all of her classmates although she had an idea of what some could do.

A few students stood out—like the spikey haired boy who never stopped yelling, the girl who made a ball's throw stretch to infinity and the boy with exhaust pipes in his calves, who easily dominated the race.

They all had strong quirks, fiercely competitive.

Although she was the first in the ranking, it didn't mean she would relax and underestimate them—they are all future heroes in the mighty UA.

Yet, despite all that, her eyes had lingered on one particular student.

Not because of his quirk, she didn't even know what it was, but because of how he looked.

A tattoo.

Ear piercing.

A demeanor too casual, too relaxed for someone in this environment.

Even though his eyes gave off an extremely serious look, his posture was relaxed, hands always in his pockets, as if the process was just a waste of his time.

'Someone like that would be quite strong.'

That was her first thought when she saw him.

She had expected him to be one of the top-ranked students, someone who breezed through the exams with confidence backed by skill.

But he was not even in the top ten, barely hanging on to the eleven spot.

That had surprised her.

'Was I wrong about him?'

Her brows furrowed slightly.

U.A. wouldn't admit just anyone, which meant he had to be capable.

But for her own expectations, his ranking suggested otherwise.

She wasn't sure, but for some reason, she found herself expecting more from him.

With a small sigh, she reached for the door handle—only to feel her fingers brush against something warm.

Not the handle.

Her eyes flickered upward, meeting a pair of yellow eyes.

"Ah..... speak of the devil." She muttered.

***

I took in the beauty before me—a beautiful face that appeared more mature than the rest of the girls.

Her perfume lingered in the air, filling my nostrils with the warm fragrance of roses.

Sharp black eyes that was also quite warm to get lost in.

Her hand felt warm and soft as it rested on mine.

And her body… damn. The uniform only emphasized her figure, making her look less like a student and more like a model stepping out of a high-end photoshoot

Every guy who passed by stole at least three glances, some not even bothering to be subtle about it.

Momo Yaoyorozu or Yaya.....I don't think I can remember her surname.

But I remember that she's sexy but she's sexy as fuck in person.

Good thing we were all the same age, or I'd feel guilty just standing here.

But wait…

She said something… didn't she?

"Hmm?"

"...."

"You said something now, were you talking to me?"

"Yeah.." she cleared her throat, withdrawing her hand "I would like to enter the class."

"Oh, okay".

I pushed the door open and gestured for her to go in, like a proper gentleman.

This wasn't what I thought would happen when I got up quite early today.

Honestly, I thought coming in early would help me avoid attention.

Maybe slip in unnoticed, settle down before the others arrived.

I mean, with the glances I had yesterday, it would be worse if I kept coming at the normal time like most people.

I glanced around as I entered the class, Ida was reading a book or a textbook? I wasn't quite sure.

A dude with the head of a crown or raven, I can't really place but quite weird to look at.

A girl with dark green hair, her appearance quite similar to a frog.

A dude with split hair of red and white sitting behind me.

We were just six present in the class. Unlike yesterday, everyone was focused on their own thing.

Adjusting my seat, I rested my head on the desk, hoping to fall asleep anytime.

Today was a day I wish I could skip or run away from.

***

"Who can find the mistake in the following english sentence?"

The loud voice cut through the silence, jerking me awake as I blinked rapidly, trying to fight off the sleepiness.

It belonged to a towering man with long blond hair that is weirdly spiked upwards in a large tuft behind his head, donning a small brown mustache.

Present Mic was dressed like someone straight out of a heavy metal band.

His neck was adorned with a weird, directional speaker, and the rest of him seemed to scream "rock star".

I couldn't help but glance around. Was it just me, or did everyone else look as bored as I felt?

The class was lifeless, the air thick with disinterest.

Most of the students were half asleep, with their heads resting on their hands, desperately fighting to stay conscious.

I tried my hardest to focus, fighting against the heavy eyelids.

The sound of pens tapping on desks, the occasional sigh. It was almost as if the teacher's voice was nothing more than white noise.

"ALL RIGHT, EVERYBODY. HANDS UP, SHOW SOME SPIRIT!!!"

Suddenly, the silence was shattered. The man's shout was so loud and energetic, it practically shook the walls.

Some of the students jolted upright, startled by the sheer volume. I winced, clutching my head.

"Like, bro, chill out," I muttered under my breath, trying to hide my grimace. "It's not that serious."

But despite his enthusiasm, there were still some students who were paying attention.

Midoriya was scribbling furiously in his notebook, his pen moving so fast I thought it might catch fire.

The way he wrote was almost mechanical, a blur of lines that didn't stop moving.

I almost wondered if that was a hidden quirk, writing at superhuman speeds.

The minutes dragged on like this, the contrast between the energy of the Present Mic and the class.

Finally, the chime of the bell echoed throughout the room, signaling the end of the period.

Relief spread through me like a wave, and I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding.

Immediately Present Mic left the class, a wave of energy surged through the class as they were all excited.

"It's time for hero basic training!!"

"Finally!"

"Oh God, I was bored to death in the class."

"Who's gonna come?"

"He's here!!" Midorya said excitedly.

"I HAVE..... COME THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE NORMAL!!"

My eyes landed on the new presence filled the room.

A man who looked like a living, breathing explosion of energy.

It was All Might.

The room seemed to freeze in an instant. His wide grin stretched across his face, a smile so bright it almost felt unnatural.

He was massive—towering over everyone, his muscles bulging in a way that could make even the most confident person feel small.

His blond hair, wild and unrestrained, matched his over-the-top persona perfectly.

He was dressed in a skin-tight hero costume that clung to his muscles in all the right ways, with red and blue colors that screamed "hero."

The class chattered excitedly as he whistled to the podium.

"Woah, it's All Might!!"

"So cool, he's really gonna teach us!!"

"Just the sight of him gives me goosebumps!"

"That's his silver age costume!!"

My eyes landed on Midorya who was shaking with excitement like a kid given a christmas toy.

All Might, the strongest person in the MHA universe and the number one hero in Japan.

He is the symbol of hope.

And he's the reason why I'm in the school.

I can't lie. Just looking at him, standing there, was intimidating.

His presence alone felt like a massive boulder in the room.

Even though he's past his prime and is fading away rapidly, he's still quite dangerous.

But it was more than just his size that made me uneasy.

The thought of being noticed by him sent a chill through me.

If I got caught...

If I made even the slightest mistake...

Thousands of me wouldn't even be able to at least escape from his grasp.

I glanced down at my hands. They were shaking, betraying the calm I was trying to project.

Getting caught by him would mean defeat, and I couldn't let that happen.

"HERO BASIC TRAINING! THIS IS THE CLASS THAT WOULD MOLD YOU ALL TO HEROES!"

His voice was louder than anything we'd heard all day, and it carried through the classroom like a booming wave.

His energy radiated off of him in thick, palpable waves, and it almost felt like the entire room was caught in his current.

"No time to waste. Today's activity is this!" He brought a card with the bright words "battle" written on it "Battle Training!"

The class buzzed with a mix of excitement and nervousness.

"And for that, you would need these!!"

He spread his arms out, grinning like he's acting a play as a suddenly clicking sound filled the air.

"In accordance with the quirk registry and the special forms you filled out before being admitted.....YOUR COSTUMES!!"

The walls suddenly opened, sliding out as they revealed boxes in glass cases all labelled from one to twenty.

"After you change, come out in ranking order to Ground Beta!!"

Some students grinned, eager to get started, while others exchanged uncertain glances as we all went to take our boxes.

Me? I couldn't help but feel tired. I would really like to be sleeping right now.
