Chapter 5: A Hero's Flame

As I was riding my bicycle to the school,I gave a side glance to the quiet girl behind me.

"Alright what's wrong." I said to her.

"You're normally a chatterbox so why so quiet today".

"Nothing it's just… am I bothering you" She whispered back.

"Huh!! where did that come from!?"I replied bewildered.

"No… it's just that, you like your quietness and alone time and I feel like I'm bothering you by having you pick me up every day." She replied with a downcast expression.

"Ha ha ha" I began laughing out loud.

" Huh?" She gave me a confused look.

"What's so funny?".

"Ha ha you dummy." I wipe a small tear off my eye.

"Do you really think that if you were bothering me I would still come pick you up?"

"So NO you're not bothering me and you never have."

"Really?" She asked with a hopeful tone.

"Yes really." A small smile appeared on my face as I answered.

She shyly nodded and hugged tighter while stuffing her face on my back.

The rest of the ride was also quiet but not the awkward kind that it was moments before but a calm and peaceful one that we both enjoyed.

After class ended we began walking with my bike and talking,

Well mostly her talking and me listening to her.

I listened to Mina talk about how she finally managed to beg her mom to sign her up to dancing classes. 

But just as we passed a corner to the next block we were distracted by a loud commotion across the next street.

I dropped my bike and with Mina ran to the noise to see what had happened.

"Please!!! Please!! I'm begging you save my little boys please!!." Begged a kneeling crying woman to a man with cactus like skin.

"They're trapped inside".

"I'm sorry ma'am i can't do anything, I have already called for backup and the fire department should arrive soon. " 

Replied the man who seemed to be a hero with a grim look on his face.

"No no please" she broke into an even bigger emotional breakdown.

As me and Mina arrived to the scene we saw that the 5th story of an apartment building had caught on fire and a crowd had gathered around it.

While seeing the pitiful scene of the distressed mother, I turned to the still in shock Mina and say:

"Mina can you hold my clothes for me."

and started striping down to only my underwear.

"Huh!? Wh-why?" She looked at me in confusion, only to see me running to the building.

"Wait Harue!!!." She shouted while trying to catch up.

While running I screamed at the crowd

"MAKE WAY!!!!"

When I got close enough to the building I immediately started my transformation.

" Flame on" 

I began ascending in a straight line and made my way to the balcony of the burning apartment.

"Hey!! Kidd stop, you're gonna hurt yourself" The cactus hero saw me and shouted in a panic.

As I reached the balcony I immediately broke open the glass door with a fire punch and went inside.

What i saw was a fiery hell that had consumed the whole living room but luckily I could hear faint crying in one of the walls.

'Alright here we go, you can do this Harue just like you have practiced a thousand times before.'

I said to myself and began concentrating,

Immediately the fire started being sucked and absorbed in a vortex like effect into my body.

In a few seconds all the fires had died out.

After checking and making sure that everything was fine, I followed the sounds of crying and made my way infront of a locked door which thankfully had managed to block out the fire from reaching tham.

I broke through the door by burning the lock and went inside.

Where i found a two boys a couple years younger than me who looked like twins,hiding in a corner.

They seem to have suffered from some burns but thankfully nothing too serious.

I turned off the fire covering my upper body and approached them.

"Are you guys alright?" 

"Mommy where's mommy?." Asked one of the crying boys.

"She's waiting for you come let's find her" I gave them both my hands and lead them to the balcony.

After getting there I put one of them in a piggyback ride and the other in my arms and began to fly back down.

"Woah!!! You can fly!? Are you a hero mister?" They asked with admiration in their eyes.

"No but in the future I will be " I flashed them a smile as I promised.

When we got back to the ground the crowd watching cheered in relief.

The boy's mother came running immediately and hugged both of them tightly.

"Thank Kami-sama ,thank Kami-sama ".

She mumbled while checking on them.

Seeing that I smile and approach Mina who was stranding in the crowd holding my clothes with a starry look in her eyes.

As I take my clothes back and begin dressing I hear her and the crowd say.

"That was amazing Harue-kun."

"You were just like All Might".

" I guess I was "I scratched the back of my head shyly at the compliments.

"Young man!!" I was broken out of my face by a stern voice, the owner of which was the cactus hero.

"That was incredibly dangerous and irresponsible of you." I turn around and see him walk in front of me.

"You could have put yours and others lives in danger" He went on and on for a while with the lecture but in the end he gave me a proud smile and said:

"While as a hero I don't condone illegal quirk use, as a person". He paused for a bit and said.

"You did an incredible job."

"Thanks"

I smiled in relief and was about to go back to get my bike when he stopped me.

"Huh?"I gave him a confused look.

"Where do you think you're going, you have to stay here and wait for the an authorities to arrive for questioning and to inform your parents."

'Shit' I can already imagine the ass whooping I'm going to recive when mom finds out.

Oh well it's was nice to test my quirk in a live situation at least .
