Chapter 18: The Sport Festival
I was hesitant to eat the corpse of Lyubim. I mean, with any other enemy, this wouldn't be a problem. I look for what is best without thinking about ethics or morals, but unfortunately, I'm glued to this guy in some way. He's a real person, one from the same place I come from. I'm not that heartless.
So there I stared at him,the stench of stagnant water and decay was overwhelming, making my artificial nose twitch with disgust. What do I do now? I had to get to school quickly, but my uniform was destroyed, and I was covered in blood and who knows what else.
Without thinking, I grabbed my cellphone, which fortunately survived the encounter. I texted Karma and told him to drive to my school. He responded with a simple "ok."
I grabbed the corpse of the Russian and dragged it across the tunnel until I found a perfect spot. Covering it with a torn piece of cloth I found on the ground, I threw him deeper into the sewer. His figure disappeared into the darkness, hitting tubes as he fell.
"I hope from wherever you are looking at me, you forgive me."
I stared at the pit until the sound of a splash covered my ears. With that, I waited until Karma texted me.
My plan was deeply hurt by this variation, but it could still work. It was just a matter of improvisation.
"I'm here, Master."
"Alright, don't freak out. We're going to exchange bodies. Continue as we told you and move by train to the place I told you about."
"As you wish."
With Karma's confirmation, I clapped my hands, and instantly my ears started ringing as my head seemed to explode. I grabbed it and gritted my teeth, almost falling to the ground.
My body trembled as my consciousness seemed to fall off. This was why it was rare for us to change bodies; it hurt like hell.
I opened my eyes, even with the blurred vision. I looked around to see my surroundings. I was in Karma's car, pretty close to UA, parked on a random street. I grabbed the mirror and started modifying my body, changing things as normal, as well as taking Karma's clothes off.
"I hate doing this shit."
I used my own threads to improvise a school uniform, making it feel a little weird since I was technically wearing my own body.
Did this count as public nudity?
Anyways, I left the car there, hiding the keys inside my body as I ran to the school. I'd already lost a lot of time, and I didn't need to lose more.
I ran, weaving through the packed crowd and making space, ignoring the insults that followed me. As I neared the entrance, I suddenly crashed, my body shoved aside by a soft, slim woman.
"Who?!"
The voice made me stop. I turned around to see Mount Lady in her normal form. She was staring at me with a fried sausage on a stick, completely broken, like I was some sort of criminal. In my head, I replayed the moment we fought, the fear I got when that giant was about to make me splatter on the ground.
"You! You broke it!"
She accused
"That's my breakfast, kid! You owe me for that!"
She pointed the broken stick at me as she got closer. I tried to run away as Vlad and Woods looked sort of ashamed. I put my hands up, trying to de-escalate.
"I'm sorry, I'm late to the meeting area."
"Do you think that's an excuse, boy?! You need to pay me back!"
"Wasn't that a gift?"
Vlad interrupted her scolding against me. Mount Lady quickly looked at him. I guess in a menacing way. Wait, I was getting extorted?
"Well... Ms. Takeyama."
She seemed surprised that I knew her name, taking a step back. Good, I got her. I grabbed her hand as I put my artificial charm to work.
Her stare was deep; that cynical personality of hers was resilient to my attack, but I knew it was inevitable.
"As a deep fan of yours, I will be glad to pay you back for this mistake whenever you want, but that would be after this tournament."
She seemed flustered. Her face didn't turn red; after all, she was a professional. But she hesitated, almost like a teenager, looking away without taking her hand from my grip.
I used that moment to escape.
"Wait! Hey! Damn kid!!"
I heard her annoyed voice along with some laughs as I finally reached the building where the waiting room was set.
As I was walking in the corridors, a figure appeared from a corner. I instantly recognized her, and she recognized me.
"Itsuka Kendo, what a surprise we met here."
"Ah, Akuma-kun, yeah it is. Aren't you late?"
"Y-yeah, a little bit. Sorry if I interrupted you."
"No, no, it's okay, hehe. Good luck in the festival, you know, even if our classes are technically at odds—"
"Don't worry about it. Good luck to you too."
Our interaction was brief, almost like it never happened, but I really liked talking to her, even for an instant. I finally reached the waiting room, and as I opened it, everyone was staring at me.
"Look who finally showed up."
Todoroki was looking at me, alongside Deku and Bakugo. Since we were the most "capable" in the class, it was normal for them to look at me as a rival. Let's be real, my quirk, even if it was S-tier, didn't compare to the raw power of these three. In a fight, I was sure I could beat them, but only thanks to my regeneration. I honestly feared what Deku was going to become, considering how things were going to go if I continued my plan.
"All that talk and you're late? Normal for an extra like you to not be aware of what image you're giving."
"Can't you shut up? Something happened, and I had to take care of it. I'm here, right? Geez."
"Take care of it? Doesn't that sound too creepy?"
Said Mina from the corner of the room. Instead, Bakugo stood up and walked to me, provoking some fear, more concentrated in Deku than anyone else.
"Don't think you're better than me just because you did a better discourse in the classroom."
"I don't think. I am better than you, and I'm going to prove it. So be it, Bakugo, if you want to fight, I have a lot of threads to spare before the festival begins."
We stared at each other. Since I was taller, my presence felt heavier than usual. Little explosions went off in his hand as my body began to slowly mutate. The others stared at each other with fear. I didn't plan to fight, though.
Let's pause a moment to explain what I'm really doing here. For those who don't know about manipulation of masses, there are three important things I'm doing here:
1.The prestige your persona has is the most valuable thing you have to defend. I can't let myself be intimidated right now.
2.Like I said, since my plan changed, it's time for me to grab a lot more attention. So this is the perfect opportunity to have classmates talking about me.
3.All of them think of me as a good friend, someone reliable. But custom kills the individual. It's time for me to become a little more unpredictable.
"Stop! Stop!"
Just as I thought, Izuku Midoriya entered the scene, separating us from each other, dragging Bakugo, who didn't take his eyes off me. The tension in the room was palpable as silence reigned.
That reminds me...

Some days before the UA Festival...
The classroom was infested with chatter about the upcoming day. I was nervous, but not for that. This was going to be the first good intervention I was going to make in history. Or rather, it was Karma's job to pull it off. It was a secret what, but it was going to be the decisive movement to enter or be out of the League of Villains—a bet I was sure I would win.
Anyways, I had to socialize. I stood up and went to Uraraka, who was talking with Jiro. Like the rest of the others, the topic was always the same: how to bring attention to be scouted.
I sat on Jiro's desk. She tried to protest, but from my forearm, I threw a string at her that curled around her mouth, shutting her up. She got angry as I laughed. I looked at Uraraka and started talking.
"I didn't know I had a fellow broke classmate with me."
"W-what are you talking about, Akuma?"
"I heard you yesterday, talking about how you wanted to be a hero for money. I admire that."
"R-really?"
"Of course. You have a good family and a business. My mother works for a company that doesn't pay her quite well. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks like that."
"Matsumoto, let's become heroes, okay? For the sake of our families!"
"Yeah, let's do it, Ochako."
Look at her, poor thing, getting all serious for a simple dialogue. Some classmates listened to me seriously, especially Shoto, who I had some kind of cold war with. We didn't talk, but since that first training battle, he looked at me like an obstacle. Fine by me.
As the day ended, it happened. A crowd of students was there, looking inside our classroom with deep interest. I took my bag quickly, walking towards the door.
Bakugo was at the front, running his mouth without care. Unlike him, I already knew which words would fit best for me. After all, my goal was to grab attention, right?
"W-what?!"
I grabbed Bakugo's shoulder, moving him out of the way as I faced the crowd. He looked perplexed but didn't say anything as I faced Hitoshi Shinso and the rest of the students behind him. Iida, Uraraka, and Izuku were behind me, also waiting on what I was about to say.
I cleared my throat and looked down on them. They quickly got the memo and tensed their bodies.
"I can hear a bunch of people talking, but I can't see any." I said, starting my statement. Whispers started all over the place but stopped as I continued. "Because, with all due honesty, who are any of you? A bunch of nobodies that feel the need to see and look for themselves the people really capable of being what you can't."
"A bunch of students that think you can take my place? Please. If any of you were in my shoes the day the villains attacked the U.S.J., you wouldn't do what I did. Nobody here is capable of doing so. So don't bring me that, of comparing yourself with me, nor anyone inside this classroom."
I looked at Shinso. He didn't say anything, but the intention was clear.
"I can fight with each one of you at the same time and not break a sweat. So get out of my sight before I crush you. And let me be clear: not now, not ever, you all are going to compete, so go...."
I stopped myself before saying something unnecessary. The crowd was now silent. My classmates were staring at me too. They'd never seen me like that, and that was the point. I was over with that reserved arc; it was time for me to be a little more carefree with my actions.
"I hope you can support what you're saying."
"Please, the difference between you and me is clear. I'm already at the top, and you? You're down there."
I pointed to the ground, bowing down until our eyes met at the same height. He looked away as the people dispersed. I finally turned around to see my classmates gazing at me.
"What?"

Waiting Room: Festival Begins
I was sitting in the waiting room. Iida was who knows where, expecting the signal to start the festival.
The atmosphere finally calmed down after a bit. The tension between us stopped, and my classmates started talking among themselves again. I avoided them for now. Later, I was going to make another move to win them again, so there was no problem separating for a moment.
I was using my phone to text Karma, who was on his usual mission. He was clearly loving all this shit. It was almost impressive how an artificial being like him could have such strong emotions.
My sight fell on Momo, who was right next to me, looking around with nervous eyes. She was still in her low self-esteem arc, so no wonder, but that wasn't what grabbed my attention. Lyubim had spoken about "his" Momo, talking like a hurt boyfriend. Staring at her was making me feel guilty but also intrigued. How different were these two Yaoyorozus? How did the bond between them start? And how did the relationship work? Questions that would never have an answer after I crushed his brain with the sole of my shoe.
Her breath sounded heavily in my ears. Her smell made my skin twitch. I'm normally not aware of that, but she was really beautiful. Her ponytail sure suited her, but that was enough. I couldn't let those vain things drive me; it was stupid.
I was staring at her with my chin glued to the table, with a bored look. She must think I'm the weirdest, staring like this. She had a little blush, cute, before speaking.
"Is there something wrong with my face, Akuma?"
"No, no. I was wondering something, but I guess I already have the answer."
"Hmm?"
She looked confused, but I couldn't tell her anything anyway. Iida suddenly entered, marking the start of this new event.
And man, I was going to love it.
