Chapter 529: Planted Spy?
Raelith could be seen organizing some files and discussing with the other Warlords. At this moment, they were engaged in a detailed discussion about defense plans to be put in place once their Supreme Monarch left the military base.
Every precaution needed to be considered, especially given what was happening across the galaxy.
The Warlords had been informed about all Supreme Monarchs moving against the demons in earnest. It wasn't a battle that ordinary military soldiers could intrude upon.
To them, this was a war between god-like beings, existences so far above them that their presence alone could shape the fate of worlds.
But still, despite knowing this, they wished they could watch. They wished they could see it, even just a glimpse. At the very least, they wanted to gaze upon it and feel the level of power that they may never reach in their lifetimes. Even a shadow of it would be enough.
Warlord Brontagar, the Warlord Titan, sighed heavily as he sat down, his huge form sending a slight tremor through the ground as his massive frame made contact with the earth below him.
The subtle quake echoed his frustration and longing.
"All Supreme Monarchs are moving this time. This moment will simply go down in history,"
Warlord Brontagar said, his voice booming in the air as he spoke. His body itched to join the battle, but he knew deep down that he couldn't, no matter how hungry his Titan bloodline was for the carnage.
He understood that he would simply die before he could even blink, in battle between these titans.
"Why don't we ask Lieutenant Anthony to request a recording of the battle from the Supreme Monarch?" Warlord Aerenya suggested, a hint of longing in her voice, her eyes reflecting a distant wish to witness such a spectacle.
"He might not agree to such a request. It might look like we want to steal the techniques of a Supreme Monarch," Warlord Raelith said from the side as he shook his head, his expression thoughtful and cautious.
"We could just sign a mana contract and bypass that," Warlord Brontagar suggested in response, his tone firm.
Warlord Aerenya smiled as she glanced at the huge Titan sitting beside her. "Look at you, being all smart," she teased, her tone playful.
But Warlord Brontagar simply snorted. He was already used to her teasing, although he enjoyed them every once in a while when they came with that familiar smile.
"Do you think the demons would attack? After all, this is a battle against the Supreme Monarchs. They might decide to send their cannon fodder across every military base,"
Warlord Raelith asked thoughtfully, his brows furrowed.
"Seriously, I wish they would attack. An entire base had fallen, such things must be repaid through blood," Warlord Brontagar replied, battle intent seemingly flashing in his eyes like a storm waiting to erupt.
Warlord Aerenya seemed to be lost in her thoughts for a moment before she replied.
"I personally wish we could find coordinates to the Abyss and take the battle to them instead."
Warlord Raelith shook his head as he responded. "Who knows how many Demon Monarchs are hiding within the Abyss? Besides, we know absolutely nothing about it. And if the Abyss has a ruler… then such a being would definitely stand at the peak of the galaxy. No matter how much we wish it, we can't storm the Abyss, even if we have its coordinates."
"Just a thought. Not that I'm stupid enough to step into the demons' home turf," Warlord Aerenya replied dryly, a smirk tugging at her lips.
"I wonder if the demons know that the Severed Crown of Echoes has already been destroyed,"
Warlord Brontagar murmured to himself, rubbing his chin in thought.
"It doesn't matter if they know. What we have to do hasn't changed. We see demon, we kill demon, then repeat," Warlord Raelith replied as he took a seat, his katana shifting as it rested across his lap, his fingers tracing the scabbard as he spoke, eyes half-lidded in thought.
"But who would have thought we had so many traitors among us? I still can't understand why people would betray their own home… their planet," Warlord Aerenya spoke softly, her voice serene as her green eyes shone with a mix of sadness and reflection.
"I do not blame anybody. It's in our nature to put oneself before anything or anyone. Besides, I'm sure you know not all traitors are caught. The base is simply too huge to go through everyone, not to mention those currently out on missions," Warlord Brontagar said from the side, his voice steady.
They knew the world wasn't simply black and white. There was no such thing as someone truly righteous. They were aware of the effects of the Severed Crown of Echoes. If the military had it, they would have used it for their own gain despite its adverse effects. Hypocrisy wasn't alien to them.
"I wonder if the purge was carried out across all military bases…" Warlord Raelith spoke.
Warlord Aerenya waved her hand, and a ceramic cup designed with a green and brown pattern appeared in her palm. Tea filled it immediately.
She took a delicate sip before replying.
"I'm sure it was. With the staggering number of traitors we found here, there's no way the Supreme Monarch wouldn't have informed the other Monarchs. Besides, I don't even think the other Supreme Monarchs needed to be informed. From the military report submitted by soldiers from Military Base Alpha-6, I'm sure they would have carried out the purge on their end instantly."
And indeed, the purge was carried out across all military bases without skipping any, not even the base of the First Supreme Monarch was left unchecked.
"Ahhh… that's right. What about that human kid whom the Inspectors couldn't even read his mind? What ended up happening with him? Did he ever say what skill or ability he was using that could block the best mind readers and illusionists we have at the base? What was his name again… Kingsley?"
Warlord Brontagar spoke suddenly, as he recalled Kingsley.
"He's a friend of the Supreme Monarch's son. It would be a real shame if he turned out to be a traitor," Warlord Raelith added with a sigh.
Warlord Aerenya simply shook her head and replied, "Don't overthink it. He was released two days ago with the rest of the soldiers."
"Huh? Why? Were they finally able to break through his mind?" Warlord Raelith asked, clearly surprised.
He had thought Kingsley would be held until his innocence could be confirmed. After all, he was very close to the Supreme Monarch's son.
What if he had been planted by the demons to gain information, earn trust, and eventually kill the Supreme Monarch's son during a mission?
"The Supreme Monarch ordered his release,"
Warlord Aerenya replied with a sigh, as if she still had her doubts.
Warlord Brontagar and Warlord Raelith both frowned, then asked in unison.
"Anthony?"
Warlord Aerenya nodded. "Indeed, it was him. But it's not like I could go around accusing a friend of his by saying he might be a spy sent by the demons, planted right by his side."
The rest nodded in understanding. After all, if such accusations were made and turned out to be false, it could very well be the end of their careers. It was better to stay silent and cautious. Some truths could not be assumed, only uncovered in time. So for now, they said nothing.
