Chapter 38: Redstonia

Player gets teleported on top of Redstonia. He starts falling as soon as he teleports. The game teleports the players inside the city randomly in the air. They won't take fall damage the first time they fall. It's a random place setting mechanic of the game. As a result, even though Megumi and Player entered the barrier at the same place, they got separated. As Player is falling, another player flies towards him with an Elytra and strikes them with their sword. He gets knocked to the roof of a building. As she flies toward him he hits her just before she can make contact, knocking her away, and making her fall down.

Player: (Shit. I have to ask about Higurama first.)

Another player arrives on the roof.

Unknown Player 2: What did you do to her?

Player: (I guess I'll ask him.)

Elsewhere in Redstonia:

Unknown Player 3: Why did you hit me?

Megumi: Because you attacked me. (I didn't expect us to split.)

Megumi is standing in front of a player lying on the ground pointing his sword at her.

Megumi: Do you know a player named Higurama?

Unknown Player 3: You think I'll tell you just because you beat me?

Megumi: Answer me!

Unknown Player 3: Sorry. You mean the guy with the 100 points right? I can tell you but you have to do something in return.

Megumi: Alright.

Unknown Player 3: Oh. You have to protect me.

Megumi: Fine.

Unknown Player 3: Just like that?

Megumi: I'm in a hurry, just tell me.

Unknown Player 3: Alright. But you will have to protect me the whole way.

Megumi: Yes. But only if you're telling the truth. You know what will happen if you're lying right?

Unknown Player 3: Don't call me "you". Call me Remi.

Player rushes toward the 2nd player who swings his sword to defend himself.

Player: (He is fast with that sword. The way he is swinging, I can't find any opening to attack him.)

He attacks Player who dodges the attack and gets away from him. He then rushes towards Player while swinging his sword. Player also runs towards him and gets slashed but holds his ground and stabs him. He then slashes his legs, making him fall.

Player: Tell me where is the player named Higurama.

Villager: I can tell you where he is.

A villager appears from behind.

Player: A villager?

Villager: You might not remember me. But you saved me back then in BeaconTown.

Player: Oh? Are you alright?

Villager: Yes. These guys threatened me to help them find newly spawned players to attack them before they can land. I didn't know it was you this time.

Player: It's no problem. So you know where Higurama is?

Villager: Yes. I can show you.

Megumi: So you're not a past Player?

Remi: No. I was invited into the server.

Megumi: Then why are you actively fighting?

Remi: It's kill or be killed here. I did not know this was going to happen as soon as I'd arrive. It's been some time since I have been surviving here. You can stop thinking the past and new players are different. They are all itching to fight.

Megumi: Anyways. Can you just tell me where we're going?

Remi: I told you there is no guarantee that you won't kill me after I tell you.

Megumi: But you can die before that too.

Remi: You're supposed to protect me! And stop calling me "you"!

Megumi: That's how pronouns work!

Remi: Anyways. We're close.

Villager: Higurama has made this building his base of operations.

Remi: This building right here is where he might be.

Megumi: You better not be lying.

Player: Alright thanks. You be careful out there.

Megumi and Remi enter the building.

Villager: Wait wait. Are you really just going in there? He has 100 points. That means he has killed around 20 players. Will you just walk in like this?

Player: I am in a hurry. I have to meet my friend here later so. Thanks for helping me. Bye.

Player enters the building.

Inside a player is standing.

Player: Are you Higurama?

Unknown Player: Higurama? Sorry, but my name is Reggie. You were tricked I believe.

Megumi: You…

Remi: What? You think you scare me? Reggie here is a very strong player.

Megumi spawns black wolf.

Megumi: What a waste of time.

Higurama: Yes. Who are you?

Player: My name is Player. I know. You don't need to say it. I don't want to fight you.

Higurama: That's relieving.

Player: Are you a past player? Or a new Player?

Higurama: What do you mean by that?

Player: (That means he is neither. He is of this server only. I guess I can talk to him.) Well, I actually need your help. I want to stop the Hunger Games. Well, not actually stop it but like remove the rule forcing to kill the players. Will you help us by using your 100 points to add that rule?

Higurama: I refuse.

Player: Huh?

Higurama: I am a fan of rules. I like it when there are set rules defined for things and people follow them. But people hardly follow rules in real life. I hate that. Which is why I love games. There, people have to follow rules. I don't care about losing as long as it is within the rules. But when games start simulating reality…Minecraft was fun until I saw people acting like real life. I joined a community of players with defined rules on how to run the whole thing. But people hardly followed them and when someone tried to stop them they would kill them. This game, however. It has defined rules. And they can't be broken. I like that about it. Which is why I won't cooperate with you.

Player: This is not just about that. There are bigger things at stake. This game is at stake here. If you don't help us, this game will get destroyed.

Higurama: That's ridiculous.

Player: If that's how it's going to be…Higurama, use the 100 points to add the rule and I'll spare you.

He takes out his sword.

Higurama: Now we're talking.

Higurama throws his sword at Player who deflects it with his sword. The sword returns to Higurama.

Player: (Enchantment?)

Higurama runs towards Player and strikes him knocking him into a wall. He again rushes to attack him. Player gets up and blocks the hit. Higurama drops his sword which suddenly appears in his left hand and he attacks Player who barely dodges it.

Player: (He dropped the sword from one hand to call it to the other hand. I have never seen someone use that enchantment like this.)

Higurama keeps attacking Player. He swings his sword and Player dodges to the left but Higurama calls the sword to his left hand and strikes him. He again charges at him but Player grabs the sword with his hand this time. Higurama leaves the sword, gets away from him, and calls back the sword, which jolts Player's hand as he releases it and it returns to Higurama. He throws it and Player deflects it above and Higurama runs toward Player with the sword in the air. Player prepares for the sword to return to Higurama but he attacks him without it and punches Player. Player swings his sword and Higurama ducks down to dodge it, then calls his sword, which stabs Player from above. He pulls out his sword and kicks him away.

Higurama: Not bad. Tell me…Player. What was your goal? Removing the rule to make it necessary to kill players? The rules say you can not remove a rule, only add a new rule.

Player: So add a rule that allows players to transfer points to other players. That way they can just exchange points among themselves, no longer needing to kill someone to avoid being banned.

Higurama: Why? You hate violence? Why are you playing this game?

Player: I play this game for simple fun. Without taking away someone else's right to have fun.

Higurama: …That's naïve. So if no one kills anyone in the Hunger Games, everyone would be at 0 points. How will they exchange points?

He runs towards him and attacks him. Player blocks the hits.

Player: There already exist players that have killed a lot of players. You included. I can't stop everyone from killing each other. For some, it's in their very nature.

Mahito: Killing is in our nature.

Player: But I can stop unnecessary killing on my part. For those who want to play without killing someone else.

Higurama attacks him from his left. Player blocks the strike and Higurama calls the sword to his other hand but Player immediately switches his position and blocks it from the other side.

Higurama: Oh. So that is what you believe. How noble. You don't want to take away anyone's right to play. That means you must have not killed a single player till now right?

Player: …

Higurama: Tell me Player, have you killed a player before?

Player: …Yes. I have.

Higurama: Oh? So you took away their right to play? How many player's rights have you taken away so far?

Player: …Countless. I killed countless players and villagers in BeaconTown.

Higurama: …(BeaconTown…Now I remember. He is that guy. I saw him. The guy who glitched the town and burned everything. He…He is Herobrine's vessel.)

Higurama stops attacking him.

Higurama: So you took so many lives, yet you stand here saying you don't want to kill people. You want to save people's lives. What were you saying? The game will get destroyed? (It was Herobrine who killed all those people. Not you. You didn't have control. Then why do you think you killed them?)

Player: I have to atone for what I have done. There is no denying what I have done, nor I can change it. But I can still do a lot to prevent something like that from repeating.

Higurama drops his sword.

Higurama: It wasn't you who killed those people. It was Herobrine.

Player: …

Higurama: I was there that day, and though I survived, I saw the massive destruction. And I remember the glowing white eyes. You didn't kill anyone. It was Herobrine. He had control of your body yet you accept their deaths as your doing. Why?

Player: It doesn't change the fact that it was my account he used to kill. I was an accomplice.

Higurama: You were a hostage. There is a difference.

Player: Still. It doesn't change what happened.

Higurama: You don't like killing players. That much is obvious. You said the game will be destroyed? What is up with that?

Player: I can't explain in detail, but the guy that started the Hunger Games has a plan involving Herobrine, which will end in this game being destroyed from within. I have to stop that from happening.

Higurama: Fine. You can have my 100 points.

Player: Why would you help me? Don't you like the rules of this game? We will try to eventually end the Hunger Games.

Higurama: I don't like unfair things. Rules help to keep things fair. That's what I made myself believe to make sense of things. But, even I can see the difference between what's clearly right and wrong. While the rules of the Hunger Games are absolute, they are also unfair to those who don't want to fight. That's all. I am not helping you in stopping the game. I am simply helping you make it fairer. Chatbot, use my 100 points and add a rule allowing players to transfer their points to other players.

Chatbot: Approved. A new rule is added.

9. Players can transfer their points to other players.

Chatbot: A new rule has been added by a player.

9. Players can transfer their points to other players.

Higurama: See you later Player.
