Chapter 141: The Poet and the Phoenix
In the final days of the journey, Tilan met with the intelligence agent she was to connect with, of course, the agent's identity was somewhat obscured to avoid the gaze of the Court of Judgment.
"Hello, miss, I am the guide you reserved."
Under the pavilion where coconut trees and sea breeze coexisted, the young girl saw this handsome man with a feathered hat, his attire somewhat reminiscent of past troubadours, with a leisurely yet slightly melancholic demeanor.
"You don't quite look like a guide," Tilan straightforwardly expressed her impression.
"Indeed, I have only been a guide here for three months. I have been traveling across the Federation, to write the stories and poems I cherish." He took off his hat and bowed to the young girl, with an elegance in his gesture.
"Every place I visit, once I become familiar with it, I try to be a guide, to tell those who've never been here about the stories of this place."
"Until one day, when I feel the story is becoming complete and well-told, I write it down and then move on to my next travel destination."
"It's quite a nice life."
The two walked along the seaside, one after the other, with the white coastline connecting to the world's end not far away, large waves gently lapping the shore, bringing seagull songs and the scent of the distance.
During the walk, this poet-turned-guide introduced Tilan to the origin of this coastal beach and the history of this planet.
"In ancient times, the world was all azure seas, with various creatures freely roaming in the sea, some were ugly, some beautiful, some strong, and others weak."
"One day, the inhabitants of the sea saw a giant fish descending from the distant moon, so enormous that sea creatures couldn't see its end."
"This snow-white giant fish swam in the sea, causing waves and currents to spread, making the sea creatures amazed and worshipful."
"Thus, the giant fish became the king of the sea world, followed by the sea creatures. They clung behind and beneath the giant fish, making swimming easy and comfortable, while also avoiding many dangers."
"The giant fish swam farther and farther, and the number of fish following it grew, gradually becoming like silver-white waves spanning the entire sea."
"As the fish group increased, they followed the whale-like giant fish, endless, devouring everything along the way."
"Gradually, those who did not follow the giant fish could no longer find food, so to survive, they joined in."
"But one day, the giant fish grew old, unable to swim anymore, dying in the sea. The fish group following it crowded in, facing starvation, they frantically gnawed at the giant fish's corpse, which was large enough perhaps never to be fully consumed."
"The stagnant fish group gathered even more densely around the corpse, constantly gnawing at it, also fighting and killing each other, as the gathered sea fish increased, so did the dead ones, which became the desired food for more sea creatures."
"Finally, this place became a graveyard of sea fish, and the continually accumulating fish carcasses eventually formed the first piece of land in the sea."
"Thereafter, tens of thousands of years passed, and new sea fish, forgetting everything from the past, set foot on this land. They became the first creatures on land, slowly reproducing, blossoming, bearing fruit, living happy and carefree lives."
"This story has a slight tinge of sadness, if it were a fairy tale, perhaps the ending should align with the theme, with some added reflections," Tilan responded.
"Yes, but I don't wish to tarnish such a story with a crude, mediocre ending using my humble words," replied this poet guide.
The two had already walked a long distance, slowly reaching the edge of the coast, where a viewing platform led to the sea, in the distance, many people were still playing by the sea.
Advancing along the viewing platform's path, the sea breeze gradually increased, the air became more humid, occasionally carrying a slight salty smell, some seabirds circled around, their feathers exceptionally white and dazzling under the sunshine and sky.
Reaching the end of the viewing platform, the two stopped and stood by the railing, seeing below the children laughing and playing ball and running on the beach.
"This place is called 'Sunset Beach,' in another hour as the sun slowly sets, you'll be able to enjoy a wonderful view," the poet guide continued introducing.
"Hmm." The young girl nodded slightly, just standing on the viewing platform gazing at the scenery.
The wind quieted down, everything before her, from the shimmering scales on the sea to the running figures, the calling seagulls, the white stone railing, all became the best embellishment of the scene.
After a long while, Tilan slowly closed her eyes, just to deeply cherish this moment.
A few seconds later, she reopened her eyes and looked at the poet guide beside her.
'So, you called me here not just to tell this story, did you?' At this moment, Tilan directly used the Songstress's ability for spiritual dialogue.
'Yes, honorable Tilan.' He nodded slightly, taking out a small, goose-yellow artifact from his bosom, which stretched and unfolded into a simple seven-stringed zither, then gently plucked it, causing a marvelous resonance to echo in the young girl's heart. Although not as potent as the Songstress, it was another type of spiritual communication ability.
'Allow me, before telling you what transpired, to ask you a plain and simple question.'
'What do you think of the Federation?' His fingers plucked the strings, letting notes ring out, gentle and soothing music spread.
