Chapter 211: "209: Pandora’s Blessing"
Hearing Su Mo's question, Pandora's expression became tense.
"The blessing itself isn't the issue. The problem is Inanna! That woman is dangerous! She's not someone you should ever get involved with!"
"My dear Su Mo, please, don't be fooled by her appearance!"
"Even if she's technically on the same 'Earth Mother' side like me, you still have to be careful!"
"Godslayers and Earth Mothers aren't even on the same team to begin with!"
In order to protect Su Mo from harm, Pandora didn't hesitate to start badmouthing her fellow Earth Mother goddess. Clearly, not all members of that divine faction were united. Or maybe, Pandora's position was just… special. After all, she was both an Earth Mother and the self-proclaimed mother of all godslayers.
"That woman has a long history of scandals!"
"Sure, a godslayer falling for a Heretic God isn't unprecedented."
"But Inanna is a special case. She's flirtatious and cruel—she's known for using brutal methods to deal with her lovers!"
"I honestly can't believe she'd give anyone a top-tier blessing… but even if she did, I absolutely forbid you from getting close to her!"
Whether it was out of maternal protectiveness or something deeper, Pandora was dead set against Su Mo having anything to do with Inanna. Unlike the version from the Nasuverse, the Inanna of this world had a dark and ruthless reputation—known for her capricious, sometimes violent love affairs. She had even slain her own husband, according to myth.
As his "mother," Pandora could never accept the idea of Su Mo being seduced by someone like that. What if her precious Su Mo was hurt? What if that goddess toyed with his feelings?
After hearing her impassioned warning, Su Mo finally understood. And he couldn't help but smile wryly. The Ishtar from the Nasuverse and the Inanna from this world… were very different beings.
Just like how the Sumerian goddess of the underworld here might literally be a skeleton—whereas in the Nasuverse, she was a sweet little angel named Ereshkigal.
Myths were one thing. The actual form and personality of gods often varied wildly across different worlds. Even Okita Souji had been a man in some timelines. Sure, maybe the mythical Inanna was a walking red flag. But the Ishtar from that other timeline? No way his other self would fall for someone who was actually that flawed.
And besides—if Ishtar had really been that problematic, his future self from that world would've come back across timelines to straighten her out by now. So even if she was a bit arrogant, that Ishtar was loyal—a classic tsundere at worst. Not to mention, she had Rin's personality mixed in, which made her completely different from the myth. In other words, there was nothing to worry about.
Still, Su Mo could understand Pandora's concern. After all, this wasn't the Nasuverse. And as an Earth Mother goddess, Pandora likely had firsthand knowledge of this world's Inanna and all her misdeeds. So, Su Mo nodded sincerely.
"Relax, this blessing has nothing to do with this world's Inanna."
"It came from a different Ishtar in a different world—one whose personality isn't nearly that bad."
"If it were this world's Inanna, I wouldn't touch her with a ten-foot pole, even without you warning me." Pandora looked visibly relieved.
Good. At least it wasn't that Inanna. Still, she remained somewhat skeptical. In her mind, the idea that a "better version" of that goddess could exist was… highly questionable. Unless that world was radically different—like a completely unrelated parallel dimension—there was no way any version of Inanna could be called decent.
"Really now… you'd better stay away from that goddess, even in other worlds!" she warned seriously.
"Don't worry," Su Mo said with a chuckle, patting her head.
"My taste is very refined. You've got nothing to worry about."
"Uuu…" Being patted so gently, Pandora pouted.
She wanted to trust him—she really did.
Seeing Su Mo's track record so far, Pandora understood he had exceptionally high standards when it came to choosing a partner. But as a mother, she couldn't help but worry that her precious child might be deceived. Especially when that goddess had the audacity to use a top-tier divine blessing to seduce her son—utterly shameless!
After brooding for a bit, Pandora came to a decision. "I've made up my mind!"
"So what, it's just a divine blessing. I won't lose to that woman!"
The loli goddess clenched her tiny fists and stood up. She looked down at Su Mo, who was still sitting cross-legged on the ground, her eyes gleaming with determination. Then, with her slender hands, she cupped his face gently. A cool and fragrant breath brushed his lips. Su Mo responded instinctively and was instantly overwhelmed by her sweet goddess scent.
"Mmm… take it all in…" she whispered softly.
"It's just a blessing, right? Mommy can give you that too!"
"So, from now on, you must listen to Mommy—and absolutely, absolutely, absolutely must not go looking for that other goddess!"
As the wet sounds of their shared kiss echoed faintly, Pandora murmured her words with a slightly muddled tone. To keep Su Mo away from Inanna, she bestowed her own divine blessing upon him. Divine power flowed continuously into his body.
Driven by her unwillingness to lose to Ishtar, Pandora granted Su Mo the highest level of blessing she could offer. But that wasn't all—she also transmitted a unique and ancient body of knowledge directly into his mind.
"This knowledge… is something we Earth Mother goddesses are strictly forbidden from passing on."
"But—hmph—if that woman dares make a move on my child, then I don't care about the rules anymore!"
"If you ever meet her again, don't hold back—take your blade and slice her down!"
"Trust your mommy—you'll be fine if you do!" It was as if she could feel someone trying to steal what was hers.
Even after bestowing her blessing, Pandora didn't stop—she passed along an archaic ritual of magical transmission, pouring an enormous amount of knowledge into Su Mo.
Their embrace dragged on longer than expected—not clear if it was because the transmission genuinely took time, or because both of them had become absorbed in the closeness. Either way, nearly half an hour passed before they finally separated. Pandora weakly pushed Su Mo away. Her fair cheeks were flushed crimson, but she still forced herself to speak with a hint of pride.
"This… this doesn't mean anything special, okay!"
"I just didn't want to see you get bewitched by that woman, that's all!"
"So, if you need anything in the future, just come to me!"
"You are absolutely not allowed to have any dealings with that woman—got it? Absolutely not!" Toward the end, her tone turned serious.
To stop Su Mo from falling for Inanna's charms, she had paid a considerable price. Especially the magical knowledge she transferred—those were deep taboos among Earth Mother goddesses. If the others ever found out, she'd be scolded into the ground. So having paid such a hefty price, she refused to let Su Mo approach Inanna.
Su Mo, hearing all of this, felt both touched and amused. After all, the Ishtar in question wasn't even from this world—it was the version from the Nasuverse. And that Ishtar? Not a bad kid at all. Pandora really didn't have to worry so much. Still… this whole misunderstanding ended up working in his favor.
If not for Ishtar's notoriety, he probably wouldn't have received Pandora's blessing at all. So, after thinking it over, Su Mo solemnly promised:
"Don't worry—I swear, I'll never go looking for Inanna." As he said it, he invoked the power of a contract to show his sincerity.
—Of course, what did a contract made by this version of Su Mo have to do with the one in the Nasuverse?
—Even if they were technically the same person, they were two different beings.
—And anyway, as the master of contracts, he could revoke it at any time.
Still, upon receiving Su Mo's oath, Pandora finally relaxed. He even used a contract to make his promise—it really did seem like he had nothing to do with Inanna. She exhaled in relief, then shot him a slightly exasperated look.
"Don't scare Mommy like that again!"
"I've got no more blessings left to give you!"
Hearing her mutter this, Su Mo simply raised a sleeve and gently wiped away the drool clinging to the corner of her mouth. Then, with a sparkle in his eyes, he said expectantly:
"By the way, Pandora… I think I might've forgotten the magic you transmitted earlier."
"…Forgotten? That's impossible!" Pandora instinctively shot back.
"That was a divine magic transmission! And it was done within the Godslayer's domain!"
"There's no way it wouldn't work. Wait… don't tell me… you're trying to—mmph?!"
Only after speaking did Pandora realize what he meant. He wanted to do it again?! As the mother of all godslayers, her pride screamed at her to say no. But she never got the chance. Her protests were quickly silenced, leaving only symbolic resistance.
Another thirty minutes passed. With a beet-red face and an expression that screamed utter loss of dignity (not that she ever had much to begin with), Pandora didn't send Su Mo off with her usual reluctance. Instead, she furiously kicked him out of the Netherworld.
"You ungrateful brat! Even if you slay a god this week, you're not allowed back for seven days!" But then she hesitated and changed her mind.
"No wait—three days! At least three days!"
"That's my bottom line!"
