Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Unexpected Encounters at the Crash Site
Outside the gates of Dragonbone Village.
"Why hasn't the boss arrived yet? We're already past departure time."
Xia Dou sat on a weathered bench, looking bored as she held an unfamiliar blade of grass between her teeth and stared at the village entrance.
"Why are you in such a hurry? The boss must have something important to do," Suixing replied with his characteristic calm.
"Exactly. This just gives us more time to rest," Shan Da agreed.
"Perfect opportunity to replenish my energy reserves."
Unlike Xia Dou's restless energy, Suixing and the others showed no urgency whatsoever. Shan Da even produced a five-nut moon cake and a bottle of coke from somewhere and sat down to enjoy his impromptu meal with obvious satisfaction.
Xu Tong expressed what was on everyone's minds, "To be honest, if it weren't for Boss' direct orders, I wouldn't want to be a part of this mission. Whatever is causing the disturbances near the source must be connected to those people on the flying pot lid! They are sending fresh bodies down every day to feed the Pole Devourers. At this rate, when those beasts finally evolve the ability to fly, I wonder how the lighthouse dwellers will maintain their peaceful existence."
The team exchanged knowing glances, but remained diplomatically silent.
Although they shared Xu Tong's frustration with the Lighthouse residents, they understood the broader implications. If the Pole Devourers truly began to ascend to new evolutionary heights, Dragonbone Village would inevitably suffer the consequences.
Fortunately, their circumstances had changed dramatically!
Everyone in Dragonbone Village had begun to practice the immortal cultivation methods their boss had taught them. Their strength was growing steadily, and it wouldn't be long before the residents of Dragonbone Village would no longer have to fear the Pole Devourers!
"Sorry to keep you waiting."
At that moment, Bai Yuekui finally appeared, but she wasn't alone.
There was someone they hadn't expected to see.
"Victor? You're here too!"
Xia Dou jumped up on her slender legs, her face shining with pure joy and excitement.
"Huh? Boss, why is your face a little red?"
Upon hearing this observation, the culprit Victor stepped closer to Bai Yuekui without the slightest hint of shame.
"Oh? Let me see, it's true! What's going on?"
Bai Yuekui shot a sharp glance at someone before explaining with forced composure, "It's probably from the hot bath I just took."
Xia Dou nodded without the slightest suspicion.
Victor stroked his chin with a knowing smile. "Really? Hot baths can make people blush? I find that hard to believe."
Bai Yuekui ignored the insufferable Victor and turned to her teammates, "Victor will be with us throughout this entire operation.
As soon as these words left her mouth, Xia Dou and the others showed obvious happiness.
With a powerhouse like Victor joining them, they no longer had to worry about security!
"Why are you standing around? Hurry up and summon your sword to make us fly!"
Bai Yuekui raised her foot and gave a light kick to Victor's heel, then folded her arms and snorted coldly.
If you're going to see me naked, you might as well serve as my personal transport!
Victor smiled good-naturedly and immediately summoned the Mystic Ice Sword, enlarging it to accommodate the passengers.
"Come on up."
Bai Yuekui easily jumped onto the flying sword with practiced grace.
"You all come up as well." Victor gestured to the others.
Originally, Xia Dou had hoped to stand in front of Victor like during their previous flight. However, the coveted front position had already been claimed by Bai Yuekui, forcing her to reluctantly abandon that plan.
After everyone had boarded, Victor controlled the flying sword to take off and fly beyond the borders of Dragonbone Village.
In less than a minute, they had covered hundreds of kilometers.
Because Victor deliberately maintained a conservative speed, fearing that excessive speed might prove uncomfortable for Bai Yuekui and the others, he used less than one-tenth of his maximum power throughout the entire journey.
During their flight, Victor expanded his spiritual consciousness, hoping to encounter large groups of Pole Devourers along the way and farm some Abstract Points.
Unfortunately, they encountered only scattered groups of the creatures.
The largest group numbered barely a hundred.
Victor was so unimpressed that he didn't even bother to do anything.
"Hm?"
Just as they approached their destination near the source of the disturbance, Victor suddenly stopped them.
"What's wrong?" Bai Yuekui turned around to ask with confusion in his eyes.
Xia Dou and the others behind them also looked at him with curiosity.
Victor smiled. "There has been an unexpected discovery."
After saying that, he adjusted the direction of the flying sword.
"Let's go meet the protagonists."
The protagonists?
Could he mean the Lighthouse Wasteland Hunter team led by Mark?
At the thought of this possibility, a barely perceptible flash of anticipation crossed Bai Yuekui's eyes.
She was curious about Mark, whom Master Lai had always referred to as the savior.
Da da da da da!
Bang bang bang!
Outside the crash site of the R-49 transport ship.
Gunfire erupted in constant bursts, punctuated by occasional screams.
"Pack the supplies and abandon anything that can't be moved quickly! Evacuate immediately!"
As more and more Pole Devourers emerged from the wreckage, Mark was forced to make a difficult tactical decision.
Give up some supplies to buy precious evacuation time.
Compared to material resources, human lives are infinitely more valuable!
"Captain! Pole Devourers are also approaching from the north!"
Mo Cheng's voice crackled through the communicator.
Mark's expression tightened upon hearing the report, but he quickly regained his composure and issued new orders, "Feixue, take the high ground and provide cover for the evacuation vehicles!"
"Roger!"
A masked woman with short purple hair emerged from the crowd, shouldering a heavy electromagnetic sniper rifle as she sprinted toward the nearby hillside.
With agile movements, she dodged several pole devourers attempting to ambush her and successfully reached her elevated position.
Feixue raised her sniper rifle, took aim at one of the beasts pursuing the evacuation convoy, and pulled the trigger without hesitation.
A bolt of blue energy erupted from the rifle's muzzle, instantly piercing the Pole Devourer's skull!
The creature crashed to the ground and rolled several times before lying still.
Feixue immediately zeroed in on her next target.
But just as she was about to fire, her keen sniper instincts detected something unusual in her peripheral vision.
She instinctively looked up at the mountaintop across from her position.
The sight that greeted her stunned her.
Several unfamiliar men and women stood on the distant peak, watching the battlefield below with obvious interest.
The man at the head was looking directly at them.
When he noticed her gaze, he even smiled and waved in her direction.
This surreal scene made her wonder if she was dreaming.
Were there actually other survivors living on the surface?
This revelation completely shattered their basic understanding of the world!
"Feixue! Watch your six!"
Only when Ran Bing's urgent warning reached her ears did Feixue snap back to reality.
Spinning around, she found that a Pole Devourer had already pounced within striking distance.
At the critical moment, she managed to dodge the first attack.
But just as she steadied herself and prepared to counterattack the first beast, another Pole Devourer lunged from her flank.
This is bad!
Feixue immediately realized the dire nature of their situation.
This time, there was absolutely no way to escape!
Just as the Pole Devourer opened its gaping maw and prepared to rip Feixue apart, Victor took action.
He simply raised his hand and waved it casually, releasing a white crescent of sword energy that flew forward at lightning speed, instantly slicing both Pole Devourers in half!
The sword energy continued its trajectory, finally hitting the battlefield below.
A thunderous crash erupted, immediately sending up a huge cloud of dust!
For a moment, the entire battlefield, human and animal alike, fell into a stunned silence as every eye turned to the point of impact.
As the dust cleared, a terrifying sword mark appeared on the ground: about two to three meters wide and over a hundred meters long!
