Chapter 23: Meeting with the King
Ainz Ooal Gown feels, the Hiyama's asnwer, whose body language matches his words. He is not a player of Yggdrasil, which should be beneficial, since without being a player there would be no possibility of him having any kind of world item, Right?
Then, "Why do I feel empty?" Ainz wonders. He had been speculating for some time about Hiyama's origin. He didn't want to admit it, but he had even fantasized about meeting a HUMAN from his old world.
Perhaps longing for that familiarity of coming from the same world was what his mind was seeking, which is why there was a slight shock in Ainz Ooal Gown.
In his mind, the skeleton smiles for a moment. "I see, it's a shame..." Ainz says, his voice seemingly calm, but if one listened more closely, then one could hear the nostalgia, sadness, disappointment, and slight resentment mixed in his tone of voice.
Ainz turned his back on Hiyama, "We can establish an alliance, if you prefer, Hiyama. In a few days, someone from my staff will come to visit you. Don't attack them," Ainz said before walking away from Hiyama.
Why not attack Hiyama? Why not talk more with Hiyama? Why not stay and observe Hiyama's territory in more detail?
Ainz Ooal Gown had several thoughts running through his mind, but despite all those thoughts, he simply decided to leave, not because of any particular conviction, but simply because of that feeling.
Emptiness, loneliness, a kind of remorse for life, and simply the feeling of being in a strange house, surrounded by strangers, eating strange food, living a strange experience.
Not at home, not with his friends, not with his acquaintances or family, but simply feeling like a stranger.
After Ainz Ooal Gown left, only Enri Emmot remained in the place, sitting with her back against a tree, her eyes revealing the fear that overwhelmed her as she watched Hiyama approach.
"Sir Hiyama," Enri almost spits out as she swallows, her body trembling, her face filled with terror, a few faint sobs coming from her dry lips as her eyes, almost devoid of hope, just watch as Hiyama slowly approaches. ...
...
That night in Re-estize.
Nagumo Hajime frowned as he looked at the poster on the bar wall, his right hand covered in black glove holding the Donner in its sheath with some force, while Shea, Tio and Yue behind him couldn't help but watch him curiously.
Hajime raised his head slightly to look at the letters higher up on the wall, "Famous this month."
In the bar of the Re-estize Adventurers' Guild, one wall is designated for posting photographs of people who became famous that month, and naturally, despite there being several other portraits, Hajime focused on one in particular.
The man in the portrait has red hair that fades to white as it falls down his neck, a face typical of a Japanese novel villain, and a black robe, all while holding a staff with a skull nailed to the top.
"Daisuke Hiyama," Hajime read the words written on the portrait, a slight thirst for revenge passing over his face before he simply turned away.
He walked over to the nearby table and raised his hand to call the waitress. "Hajime, Is something wrong?" Yue said. She had been watching Hajime for a moment, and she didn't like the expression her man made when he saw that portrait.
"Actually, the guy in the portrait is the one I told you about, the one who pushed me into the Orcus labyrinth," Hajime said, seemingly without giving the matter much importance.
Shea, Tio and Yue, who were sitting next to him, narrowed their eyes, their faces going through various expressions until they reached disgust, and then, as if wanting to engrave the image of Hiyama in their minds, they turned their heads toward the wall with the portraits of famous people for a while.
"Give me four specials of the day and a bottle of wine," Hajime says, and a moment later the waitress hurries back to the kitchen.
"..." Yue stares at Hiyama's face for a moment before turning her gaze back to Hajime. "Are we going to kill him?" she asks, her voice emanating a strange kind of displeasure.
"Hmph," however, Hajime simply makes a noise, brings both hands to the back of his neck before staring at the ceiling of the bar for a while.
The lights, which are like small crystals hanging from beams on the ceiling, shine with different colors, the ceiling itself is made of various magic stones placed side by side like a puzzle.
"Beautiful," Hajime thinks as he relaxes, "Actually, it seems that the Hiyama of now is not the Hiyama I know, so it's best to stay away for the time being," he says, paying little attention to Yue's words.
As if she had gained an understanding of the meaning of life, Shea's eyes lit up like two small lanterns, a smile graced her face as she nodded her head.
"It's definitely something strange," the silly rabbit girl nods repeatedly, but in reality, she didn't fully understand Hajime's words.
"Let's do some research tomorrow. It's late, and we'll probably go to sleep after eating. We can't act without knowing Hiyama's new strength," Hajime comes to a conclusion before patting Shea's little head affectionately.
"Papa, Myu wants to too..." The little fish girl in Hajime's arms moves, trying to get her "Papa's" attention.
Elsewhere in Re-estize, a man dressed in armor walks down a slightly busy street, his eyes focused on a store. His face, which showed some expectation, soon fades when he sees the sign, "Closed."
The man is Gazef Stronoff. He came today to spend some time talking with Matt, but it seems that his good friend is a little busy. In fact, when he raises his head slightly and pricks up his ears, he can hear soft moans and the squeaking of a bed.
"Maybe I should hurry up. Ezra must be waiting for me, hehehe," Gazef encourages himself as he lets out a lewd chuckle.
A while later, on the first floor of Matt's store, two people are resting while hugging each other on a huge bed.
Ninya rests her head against Matt's chest as she sleeps peacefully, but Matt's eyes are wide open, almost glowing in the dim light of his room.
He observes the beams on the ceiling, the walls, the bookshelves not far away, the small table near the bed, and even the window through which some night light enters.
Matt feels strange, he blinks, his eyes focused on the window, on the night light coming in, and on the curtains fluttering in the light breeze.
He squints briefly, and he could almost swear that he can see the figure of a girl he hasn't seen in a long time, sitting on the window sill, watching him with a smile, as she swings her legs and her long hair moves slightly.
The girl who gave him a store with decorative items, the girl who made everything he has now possible, and yet a girl completely unknown to him.
Matt shakes his head before gently stroking Ninya's head. "Actually, I can't love you," Matt sighs, his eyes beginning to shine, his cheeks warming as liquid escapes from his eyes and rolls down his face.
"I don't feel anything when I have sex with you," Matt smiles, closes his eyes, and feels Ninya's body colliding with his, her warmth, her breath, her presence, none of which can awaken genuine desire in him.
However, Ninya, who sleeps peacefully, is the opposite of Matt. Her face of absolute satisfaction shows that she feels all kinds of emotions when she is with Matt, and her kind and affectionate disposition also reveals her innocence.
At the same time, a small meeting is taking place in the royal palace of Re-estize.
Seven people sit around a large table, looking at each other for a moment before smiling slightly.
"Your Majesty Ramposa III, What does all this mean?" Lakyus asks. She and the other members of Blue Roses had been suddenly summoned to attend a meeting with the King and his daughter Renner.
"Well..." Ramposa strokes his beard for a moment, lets out a slight laugh as he looks at the table full of exquisite dishes, then simply sighs, "In fact, there are reports that strange things have been attacking the north of Re-estize."
Ramposa's words bring even more confusion to Lakyus's slightly tired face. "But why call us?" She says and doesn't understand. After all, it has been established that the adventurers' guild and its members will not participate in matters of the kingdom.
"It has to do with the report you submitted about the new dungeon that appeared on the outskirts of Re-estize," Renner interjected, taking a sip from her teacup before continuing, "What did you say it was called? The Forgo..."
"The Forgotten One," Lakyus says, interrupting the princess's words. Renner smiled, not offended by Lakyus' correction; after all, she was her good friend.
"The Forgotten One. Hiyama saved you at that time, if I'm not mistaken, but what is attacking the north of Re-estize bears a slight resemblance to what you described," Renner said with a serious expression as she set her teacup on the table.
King Ramposa III takes a portrait out of a compartment in his chair before holding it up for the Blue Roses girls to see.
The portrait depicts a giant tentacle slowly absorbing the body of a peasant.
