Chapter 18: Charlotte Going Out
---
The Sea Calendar Year 1474.
It had been a year since Compote was brought back home.
"Ha!"
"I feel like dying!"
Perospero, age two, and Compote, age one, were both deeply engrossed in training.
Four-year-old Joey already looked like he was ten. Perospero, though only two, resembled a child of five or six. Compote, at one year old, appeared as if she were three.
The two children trained diligently.
Perospero focused on basic hand-to-hand combat training, while Compote underwent a specialized regimen.
Compote, among all of them, bore the strongest resemblance to Linlin. Because of this, Joey personally designed a training program for her, mimicking the methods used by giants like Linlin herself.
"Big brother!"
Around three in the afternoon, the two children put aside their training and ran to Joey's side.
"Hehehe~~~"
The two sat beside him, their faces brimming with innocence and cuteness.
"Well!" Joey gently ruffled their hair and smiled. "How was your training today?"
Perospero responded enthusiastically, "Big brother! Big brother! We've finished training for today. Can we go out to play this afternoon?"
Joey chuckled. "Of course. After the tea party, you can go play."
"Hehehe~~~" Perospero beamed with joy.
Compote, with her chubby cheeks that made her look like a miniature version of her mother, puffed up her little face.
"Big brother! Big brother! Why can he go out to play, and I can't?" she complained, pouting.
Joey ruffled her hair as well. "Does my little girl want to go out and play too?"
"Yes!"
"Yes!"
Compote eagerly nodded.
After thinking for a moment, Joey nodded and said, "Alright, let's all go out together. It'll be good to check on the family businesses while we're at it."
"Yay!!!"
The two children cheered excitedly.
"Hahaha~~~" Joey smiled and shook his head.
Since returning from Wano two years ago, Joey had been meticulously planning the island's development.
Now, through a combination of wealth, strength, and influence, the entire island—from its factories to its officials—was firmly under the Charlotte Family's control.
Every single person answered to them.
While plundering as pirates yielded wealth, it had its limits. Joey was far more interested in the consistent revenue generated through business.
Every detail mattered to him.
Still, these were minor issues that he didn't dwell on too much.
"Young master!"
"Young lady!"
"It's time for the tea party!"
Momo arrived with an array of desserts.
Soon after, the three siblings sat down together, their faces lit up with delight as they enjoyed their sweets.
Truth be told, the Charlotte family could go without money or anything else, but never without desserts.
Even Joey wholeheartedly agreed with this sentiment.
After finishing their tea, Joey took Perospero and Compote out for a stroll.
The three siblings wandered through the town, exploring.
"It's them!"
"Look!"
"It's the monsters from the castle!"
"I heard their mom is a pirate!"
"These freaks deserve to die!"
As they walked, whispers and insults began to spread around them.
The adults in the town, fully aware of the Charlotte Family's terrifying reputation, kept their heads down. But the children playing outside didn't know any better.
Charlotte Brûlée—Joey's yet-to-be-born twebtyth sister—had her face scarred by this group of brats in the original timeline.
Linlin, often absent due to her pirate life, had long neglected to protect her children from such harassment. While no one dared harm Linlin's children outright, bullying them had become commonplace.
Linlin from the original story had only ever viewed her children as tools, never truly caring for them. But things were different now.
"Idiots!"
"Sniff... sniff..."
Perospero burned with anger, while Compote, despite having the strength to crush these brats, was still just a child.
Her eyes welled with tears as the insults hit her.
"Hmm~~~"
Joey turned calmly, his gaze landing on the group of children—more than ten in total.
Perospero, consumed by rage, clenched his fists tightly.
Joey, however, spoke in a steady voice, "Perospero, what do you think we should do in a situation like this?"
"Huh?"
Perospero, caught off guard, tilted his head in confusion.
Despite his anger, he was still a child.
In truth, Perospero had already reached the strength of an Iron Rank Level 9, and Compote wasn't far behind at Iron Rank Level 8.
Their abilities naturally grew with age, and Joey had focused on laying a strong foundation for them. With their bloodline and the unique Body Refinement Technique, such growth was entirely expected.
In this world, the gap between Iron and Bronze Rank wasn't enormous, but reaching Bronze marked a significant transformation.
"Hahaha~~~"
"Look! That brat is sticking out his tongue!"
"And that little girl has green hair!"
"The one in the middle has pink hair—how disgusting!"
The taunts grew more vicious.
Smack! Smack!
Perospero's fists tightened, trembling with unrestrained fury.
But even in his anger, he recalled his older brother's earlier question.
After a pause, Perospero gritted his teeth and growled, "Big brother said that when a wild dog barks at you, you make sure it dies like one—without leaving a trace!"
"Hahaha~~~" Joey smiled. "Well said, Perospero. So, what are you waiting for? Are you going to let them keep bullying your sister and insulting your family? The Charlotte Family's pride allows no such humiliation!"
"Yes!"
Perospero pulled out the weapon strapped to his legs and assembled it into a massive paintbrush.
