Multiverse: Saving Anime Heroines in the Apocalypse

Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Either We Leave Together, or No One Leaves

Sosuke Kitahara landed precisely on the rooftop, still holding Yukino Yukinoshita in his arms.

Yui Yuigahama's gaze unconsciously settled on Sosuke, her heart deeply shaken. Yes, that leap had completely shattered her understanding of human limits.

She had witnessed Sosuke's combat prowess before and had prepared to assist if needed, but she never imagined his physical abilities would be this monstrous.

A three-meter rooftop jump?

Even if he used a zombie as a stepping point midway, he was still carrying Yukino in his arms that should have made it even more difficult.

If someone had told her this before, she would have dismissed it as a joke. But now the truth was right in front of her, undeniable. It wasn't until Sosuke quietly urged them to stay low that Yui snapped out of her daze.

Yukino, still shaken, was gently set down by Sosuke and whispered, "Thank you, Sosuke."

Sosuke simply shook his head, his gaze falling to Asami below.

Asami, too, noticed Sosuke above. Their eyes met. Her pupils had lost their luster the unmistakable look of someone whose spirit had already died. Several zombies were gnawing at her, each bite tearing away chunks of flesh, but Asami, drenched in cold sweat, didn't make a sound.

In the faint return of color to her eyes, Sosuke saw his own reflection. His gaze flickered with complexity as he drew the dagger from his waist and hurled it.

The blade sliced through the air and lodged perfectly in Asami's forehead.

Confirming that Asami had turned into a corpse, the zombies that couldn't reach her quickly rushed toward the helicopter.

Boom. Boom.

The ground trembled with the weight of countless shrieks and wails as the frenzied horde surged past them like a raging tide.

The three women on the rooftop turned pale, lying flat and not daring to move.

Utaha Kasumigaoka and Yui Yuigahama forced themselves to suppress their breathing, their bodies trembling uncontrollably.

Yukino gripped her hands so tightly they turned white, her heart gripped by a profound sense of dread. If not for Sosuke Kitahara, she couldn't even imagine the outcome. Faced with the monstrous horde, she realized how insignificant and powerless she truly was.

Seeing their ghostly pale faces and the deep terror in their eyes, Sosuke sighed inwardly. He understood all too well what they were feeling. He had been there in his previous life.

But fear alone wouldn't save them. To survive in this world, they had to become stronger, they had to force themselves to adapt there was no other way.

He had faced hordes far larger than this before. Real hordes. Back then, there weren't just ordinary first-tier zombies, but also masses of second-tier and even third-tier monstrosities.

Meanwhile, the scene on the other side of the helipad was entirely different.

"Wait for me! I haven't gotten on yet!"

Akai, gritting his teeth through the pain, shouted at the helicopter. Dragging his bullet-riddled legs, he struggled to crawl toward it. By now, the helicopter had already lifted into the air.

Smack.

A hard-soled shoe mercilessly stomped on his face. Before he could even scream, another foot landed squarely on his head, using him as a stepping stone to leap onto the helicopter. Akai was trampled repeatedly, his face battered and his vision spinning.

When he finally propped himself up, a swarm of zombies had already arrived in front of him.

A nauseating stench assaulted him as countless arms lashed toward him like the tentacles of a sea monster. Terrified out of his wits, Akai instinctively grabbed the pant leg of the nearest living person. The man shrieked and reflexively kicked him in the nose.

"Aaaah!"

Akai let out a piercing scream as he toppled backward. His body seemed magnetized as it was instantly engulfed by the horde. A sharp pain ripped through his throat, and a geyser of hot blood erupted, splattering across the zombies, further fueling their frenzy.

His screams echoed through the sky but were silenced within moments.

Things weren't going well inside the helicopter either. It had barely taken off, but the landing skids were crammed with panicked survivors.

A civilian helicopter's engine wasn't that powerful to begin with. Combined with the extra cargo, it wobbled precariously at just three meters off the ground. The cockpit instruments were flashing wildly, alarms blaring. The pilot, drenched in cold sweat, frantically shouted, "We're overloaded! Let go, or none of us are getting out of here!"

But whether the survivors hanging onto the skids could even hear him over the roaring rotors was another matter. Even if they heard, how many would actually be willing to let go?

It was absurd. They'd come this far, and now someone expected them to let go? Why should they, when no one else was letting go?

Below them were countless zombies. Falling meant certain death.

Everyone was clinging to life. Nothing else mattered right now.

Some survivors even had others hanging from their legs. Among them was Yuma Iida, who couldn't reach the landing skid and was clinging desperately to another survivor's legs, kicking furiously to climb higher.

The zombies' hunger for flesh was beyond human comprehension. Like madmen, they clawed frantically at the helicopter, grabbing the legs of those hanging on.

"Ah! Help me! I'm being pulled down!"

Yuma Iida screamed desperately as torn and bloodied zombie hands yanked on his ankles like a tug-of-war. The survivor he clung to, driven by pure survival instinct, let go of one hand and swiftly unbuckled his belt.

With a sudden jolt, the pants slipped right off. Yuma Iida tumbled into the sea of zombies with a loud crash.

"Ahhh!"

Flailing like a drowning swimmer, he barely had time to scream before the zombies pounced on him. Blood sprayed in thick jets.

The helicopter couldn't climb higher, and more zombies continued to scale the survivors like a twisted chain of human and monster links. The helicopter finally lost control, spiraling off the helipad.

The zombies left behind, still drawn by the rotor's deafening noise, instinctively shuffled forward. One after another, they toppled off the edge like dumplings dropping into a pot. Heavy thuds echoed from below as their bodies slammed into the ground.

Kasumigaoka Utaha and Yukino Yukinoshita, lying atop the roof, covered their eyes in terror. They were completely speechless after witnessing such a grotesque sight. Even Yui Yuigahama, who prided herself on her strong mental fortitude, turned away, unable to bear watching any longer.

Kenji, who had been stabbed earlier by Sosuke, had long since lost his previous arrogance. Blood poured from his stomach wound as his strength rapidly drained. Several zombies had already begun feasting on him.

In his final moments, Kenji was overwhelmed by regret.

He should never have taken this disastrous job. Not only had he gained nothing, but now he was dying in this godforsaken place.

He mustered his remaining strength to lift his head, trying to catch a glimpse of Sosuke Kitahara, but all he saw was a wall of zombies not a single living person in sight.

"That bastard… you wanted me to suffer? Fine, I'll make sure you don't get your wish!"

With a final surge of willpower, Kenji yanked the grenade at his waist.

A deafening explosion ripped through the air, shredding the surrounding zombies into pieces.

One fragment flew like a deadly arrow, piercing the helicopter pilot's temple. The already out-of-control helicopter, now pilotless, plummeted straight down, dragging the swarm of clinging zombies with it.

Boom!

An earth-shaking explosion erupted from the ground floor, the blast devouring everything. A fiery mushroom cloud shot skyward, and the black smoke could be seen clearly from the rooftop.
