Chapter 28: A Surprise Visitor
The morning sun was still low on the horizon as Raja and his grandmother, Eleanor, approached a grand yet mysterious mansion on the outskirts of London. The journey had been long and silent, Eleanor offering only hints of who they were going to meet. Raja, ever the curious one, felt a mixture of excitement and impatience.
They arrived at the mansion's iron gates, where an older woman, graceful yet commanding, awaited them. Her hair was silver, her gaze sharp, and her presence somehow both intimidating and comforting.
"Welcome, Eleanor," the woman said, her eyes briefly softening before moving to study Raja. "And you must be the…exceptional young man I've heard about."
Eleanor gave Raja an encouraging nod. "This is my grandson, Raja. He's…unique, as I mentioned."
The older woman's eyes lingered on Raja, her curiosity evident. "Show me," she said simply, gesturing to a small teacup on a nearby table.
Raja, calm but secretly delighted by the invitation, raised a hand and made a gentle gesture. The teacup lifted smoothly off the table and hovered in mid-air, spinning ever so slightly before floating back down, as light as a feather.
The woman raised an eyebrow, impressed. "How long have you been able to do this?"
Raja chuckled, a glint of mischief in his eyes. "Well, it all started when I was about five. I applied to college, but they turned me down—apparently, they don't like young geniuses," he joked. "I was angry, and I threw the rejection letter across the room. Next thing I knew, every book on my shelf came crashing down too! Since then, I've practiced on smaller objects—teacups, pencils, you name it. But I only told Grandma after she, uh…caught me stopping her from a mid-air fall."
The woman gave a short laugh, her expression softening as she glanced at Eleanor. "Quite the talented boy you have here, Eleanor." She paused, as if considering her next steps, then pulled out a small, elegant piece of parchment and a quill from her cloak. Scribbling something quickly, she then let out a sharp whistle.
From seemingly nowhere, a large owl with piercing amber eyes swooped into the room, perching gracefully on her arm. Raja's eyes widened in feigned surprise, although he had a strong suspicion about what he was witnessing.
"Is…is this how you send letters?" he asked, his tone full of childlike wonder.
The woman chuckled, giving Raja an approving nod. "Not usually, no," she replied with a twinkle in her eye. She gave the letter to the owl, which hooted softly, then flew off through an open window and disappeared into the distance.
The woman turned back to them. "I think it best for you and your grandmother to stay here for the day. We'll have a visitor tomorrow who might be able to…illuminate certain things for you."
Raja's grandmother accepted without hesitation, her face warm with gratitude. Raja, meanwhile, tried to keep his excitement in check. Who could she be inviting?
The next morning, Raja woke to a sense of anticipation so strong he could barely sit still. Shortly after breakfast, a soft knock sounded on the door. The woman from the previous day led them to the sitting room, where they found another visitor waiting: a tall, distinguished-looking woman with sharp eyes and an air of strict authority. She wore emerald-green robes and a stern expression that softened just a fraction as she glanced at Raja.
"Minerva," the older woman said, introducing her guest. "This is Raja, the one I mentioned to you."
The newcomer gave Raja an appraising look, and after a pause, she nodded approvingly. "So," she said with a faint smile, "you're the boy with…exceptional talents. May I see for myself?"
Raja, feeling both nervous and excited, raised a hand and gestured once more, lifting a quill from the desk and guiding it into a loop in mid-air before gently setting it back down. Minerva's stern face broke into a small smile.
"Impressive indeed," she murmured, almost to herself. "Not many at your age could manage such control."
Turning to Eleanor, Minerva asked, "Tell me, how long has he been…gifted in this way?"
With a twinkle in her eye, Eleanor eagerly began to recount Raja's many achievements, explaining how he had participated in various academic competitions, mastered skills far beyond his age, and shown an intelligence and maturity that continually surprised everyone around him.
"He's completed schooling already," Eleanor added, her pride unmistakable. "And he's preparing for his next steps, though that path may look…a bit different from most children his age."
Minerva's expression softened, clearly intrigued by everything she was hearing. "A very unusual child indeed," she mused. "Professor Dumbledore will be interested to learn of this. We may have a place for you at…a certain institution."
She turned back to Raja, her gaze thoughtful. "Raja, you will receive a letter soon. In it will be all the information you need about the school, its traditions, and the special path it will open for you."
Raja feigned a look of astonishment, his mouth forming a small "o" as he nodded solemnly. "A school for…people like me?"
Minerva's gaze held his as she gave a small nod. "Yes. But only for those with a particular kind of…gift. You'll understand when the time comes."
They spent the rest of the morning discussing Raja's accomplishments and his growing curiosity about his unique powers. Minerva listened attentively, smiling at times as Eleanor shared more stories. When the visit finally concluded, Minerva promised to return soon and offered a warm farewell before departing.
At Hogwarts
Back at Hogwarts, Minerva entered the headmaster's office, where Professor Dumbledore sat by the window, gazing thoughtfully at the grounds below.
"Albus," Minerva began, taking a seat across from him. "I've just met with a rather unusual child—a boy named Raja Rudra. His talent for control over small objects is…astonishing. He performed it with such ease. And his intellect, according to his grandmother, is beyond remarkable. He's already completed his schooling and shows an interest in…well, everything."
Dumbledore's eyes sparkled with curiosity as he listened. "It sounds as if young Mr. Rudra would be a welcome addition to our student body. Perhaps," he said with a smile, "he might even give a few of our more seasoned students a run for their Galleons."
Minerva's lips twitched in a smile. "I dare say he will. His potential is extraordinary, and his understanding, even at his age, shows…unusual promise."
Dumbledore nodded slowly, leaning back in his chair with a thoughtful expression. "It will be interesting to see how his journey unfolds. A mind like that, combined with an innate magical ability, could be quite powerful indeed."
They exchanged a knowing look, each thinking of the extraordinary path that lay ahead for Raja. Dumbledore's gaze grew distant as he thought of the challenges and discoveries awaiting the young boy.
"Yes," he murmured, almost to himself. "Hogwarts may be just the beginning for young Raja Rudra."
With that, Minerva rose and left the office, feeling a renewed sense of excitement for the future.
