Opening my eyes, I found the sun beaming into my room, and as I groaned, realizing that I left the shutters wide open, I turned off my alarm. As I got up, I found that the ground was a decent amount lower than what I'm used to.

Checking to make sure that my bed wasn't dirty with whatever substance came out of my body before this transformation, I nodded gratefully that it didn't smell strange, nor did I find any weird substances.

As I walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower, I found that the tub itself had gotten a decent bit smaller. Thankfully, it wasn't so small that I had trouble moving around. However, I had also noticed that the sounds and the smells had gotten much more prominent.

I could feel the individual drops of water across my skin. I could almost smell the individual chemicals used in my shampoo, which is expected as it's bargain-sale shampoo and nothing too special. The lights and everything around me just seemed brighter.

As I headed over to the mirror in the bathroom, I looked into it and saw that my looks had slightly changed overnight. The slight amounts of fat that I had had seemingly turned into more muscle. I could almost see the definition within each individual part of my body.

But to be honest, I was just disappointed, as this means I'll have to order more uniforms, which will definitely cut into my groceries budget. Well, it looks like I'm eating more instant ramen and thrown-out vegetables from my job.

The small part of me is slightly alarmed, as everything that happened yesterday was not a dream. According to whoever gave me this power, I have at least 30 years, maybe less, to prepare for an invasion of world-ending robots. Truly, this sounds like the plot of some type of cartoon. The question is if I'm in one of those lighthearted ones or those depressing ones I sometimes heard about at work, like whatever that Berserk manga they were talking about.

It was truly strange when some of my coworkers started yelling "Griffith" out of nowhere, but I didn't judge. People were allowed to enjoy these things.

But the question now is, where do I start? And as if to answer me, the holographic screen appeared in front of my face.

After doing my morning stretches and putting on my uniform, which is now smaller than me, thankfully I was still able to put it on, but I made sure to keep the jacket on.

Looking towards the screen, I asked, "Is there some method to increase my strength? I saw that I received other items yesterday. What are their purposes?"

[I am glad you asked, user! There are many types of items you will receive from this power. Some of them include books of knowledge as well as character cards.]

The screen then shifted to show the character card that I had received: Giyu Tomioka. Looking at his face and his blank expression, his eyes just seemed to pierce into my soul.

[Character cards have many usages. The first is that they allow you to summon them to your world. However, you will have to build up a bond with them, and an identity will be established for them, but it will be bare bones. Also, while these characters need to be bonded with at base, they can never truly betray you. However, the more intelligent summons may discover means to subvert this, so try not to treat your subordinates like you work at a black company, okay…]

Never really planned on doing that anyways. I've had enough experiences with companies like that already. Putting my shoes on, I began to gather my school supplies.

[The other function of the character card is assimilation. Through this process, you can gain the skills, abilities, and powers of the assimilated character card.]

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. If these cards are people and I assimilate them, isn't that just killing them?"

The screen seemed to almost glitch, as if surprised by my question.

[No. Essentially, every character card you get is their distilled essence taken from them upon their deaths. They are purely physical and mental existences unless you decide to summon them. Then, out of the infinite number of them, one of them shall answer your call. Trust me, the people that created this power treat souls very seriously. So do not be afraid to use the assimilation function. Through using the assimilation function, you gain all of their physical experiences, which will increase your overall strength. Also, do be aware that you can talk to me mentally. Wouldn't want you to look like a crazy person, user.]

Making sure to turn all the lights off to save money on electricity, I walked out the door and began to walk towards the academy.

"So, is there something required to increase the percentage of assimilation?"

[Yes. Assimilation is gained through the usage of the individual powers of the character cards. The more you use their powers and the more you connect with them, the stronger your percentage becomes, and the more powers you gain from them. Once you reach 100%, you shall gain the choice on whether or not to receive a copy of all of their memories. Do not be afraid of these memories harming your ego. They shall be displayed within your mind.]

It seems your creator really thought of everything. So, are you truly sentient, or is this some type of virtual intelligence?

[I am a virtual intelligence created purely to answer your questions and run the gacha system. But thank you for the appreciation. If you wish to summon or assimilate, you may use the system purely through mental commands.]

Dismissing the blue screen, I see Kuoh Academy in the distance. Upon arrival, I receive some very annoyed glares from the guys. Truly, teenage hormones are a very powerful thing.

That same girl with purple eyes notices me. However, her gaze becomes somewhat surprised upon seeing me. The girl beside her with the waist-length hair, which I have no idea how she maintains, also takes notice of me. After waving to me, I do the same.

Walking inside, I begin to head to homeroom, and after placing my bag down behind my chair, I pull out all of my necessary supplies before looking towards the window. As I enjoy the silence before homeroom, I am immediately pulled from my serene paradise.

"Heyyy, Grayyyy." Looking to my right, I see the same red-haired girl, although I really should be calling her Gremory now in my head.

Taking a deep breath and preparing my mental battery, I turn towards her and give her a small wave, to which she just pouts.

"Come on, Gray, where's the energy?" I just narrow my eyes, which causes her to giggle.

"I am happy that my apathetic face is amusing to you." She just sits back in her chair and looks at me as if giving me a once-over.

"Did something change about you, Gray? You seem a bit more refined." Slightly alarmed about the perception of this girl, I try to play as cool as I can.

"Benefits of getting actual good sleep. Now that I'm not working over four different jobs, I'm finally able to get over four hours of sleep. Speaking of which, I really should start planning on my new route to my various jobs. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Miss Gremory." The girl, seemingly unfazed by my cool response, somewhat gets closer as she examines my face.

But soon enough, she pulls back and gasps before asking in a whispering tone, "Gray, are you in a relationship? They say guys look more mature when they start a serious relationship. Please tell me it's some type of love triangle!" Girl, what is going on in that head of yours?

Placing my head against the desk, I respond as evenly as I can, "I am under no uncertain terms in a relationship. Trust me, women can do much better than me. Now, once I start earning some decent money and begin to look desirable by the female population, then we can talk about my relationship." The girl surprisingly just lightly smiles.

"Well, if you ever grow old and alone, Gray, I will be right there beside you." Woman, that sounds like my worst nightmare.

"I can't handle extroverted activities… What about that manga you were reading? Has a new chapter come out yet or something?" And the second I said that, I immediately regretted it as the look in her eyes grew three sizes that day. In fact, for a second, I thought I almost saw stars in her eyes.

"Now we're talking, Gray! Truly, it seems I have made progress already…" Made progress on what?

For a few minutes, she begins describing the various manga she's been reading, which mostly consists of something called Drag So Ball as well as something called Two Piece. I do admit, though, it is slightly amusing to see her talk about it with such excitement.

The best thing I can compare it to is the amusement of an adult watching a child talking about their favorite toy. Soon enough, however, she stops as class begins, and I have to make sure that she stays awake through the whole thing. It's not like she's a bad student, as everything she writes is correct and all the answers that she gives are correct as well. This must be the benefit of being a genius.

The time just seems to stall utterly, and so I decide to check out the interface of this system or whatever it's called.

Am I gonna have to worry about having a seizure in the middle of class?

[No. All of the assimilations begin at 0%, and there won't be any noticeable physical changes until later in the assimilation process. The sooner you assimilate these things, the better, as they can grow with time.]

Use the character card, then.

In that moment, I felt something slot itself within me, but as quickly as that feeling appeared, it passed. As I looked around slightly to see if anyone noticed anything, I found that all of my classmates are focusing on the teacher, although that may just be because the teacher is rather good-looking… While Rias looks like she's ready to go to sleep again.

Giving a slight tap to her finger with my pencil, she sits back up while looking ready to doze off again.

Looking back to the status board, I find a new addition:

I have a feeling this card and I are resonating on a spiritual level right now.

(A Few Hours Later)

"Grayyy!" I cannot escape this red-haired woman.

Sitting under the same tree while studying up on the various mathematical equations, I see the redheaded anime freak and the woman that keeps giving me strange looks walking over.

"Hello, Miss Gremory."

"You know you can at least try to look excited that I'm here."

"Trust me, your very presence brightens my day." The comment causes the girl to smile as her friend giggles into her hand.

"You truly have a way with words, Gray. Are you trying to seduce her?" I simply close my notebook and look over at Akeno.

"Trust me, I do not seduce, and a part of me is worried that if I ever get into a meaningful relationship with her, I will end up having to fund her anime and manga obsession." Said redheaded girl seems as if she's been shot with an arrow.

"Yes, I truly fear for my friend's future. I leave her to you, Gray." Oh, don't sound like you're making some grand sacrifice!

"Akeno! I'm not that bad!"

"Rias, you have a body pillow of Sephiroth in your room, and I know for a fact that you sleep with it. Truly, I'm afraid you'll be unable to get a boyfriend in the future." Rias then attempts to close her friend's mouth, but she just moves away.

"Akeno, be silent! I don't want Gray to think I'm weird…" To be honest, it's a bit too late for that.

"I don't think you're weird, Miss Gremory. Everyone has their interests and their hobbies. Like mine, for example, as I like to organize the various plants within my apartment or sometimes sit on the roof of the apartment building and watch the sunrise." For the moment, they look at me in utter surprise, as Rias then begins to almost sniffle.

Rias then places a hand on my shoulder. "I never thought I would meet someone that was cool with what I like… Thanks, Gray."

"There's nothing to thank me for, Miss Gremory. Anyone unwilling to accept the other's eccentricities doesn't deserve their companionship." As I looked into her eyes while saying that, her friend begins to almost start breathing heavily.

"Such a powerful stare…" However, as if I imagined it, she turns around and stops.

Rias, however, pipes in herself. "By the way, Gray, why do you keep calling me Miss Gremory?"

Turning to look towards the sky, I answer, "I believe it is polite to speak in family names before referring to each other with our personal names, especially nicknames. However, I do not mind others saying my first name, as Ashina is a rather common family name."

"That is such a you answer… But feel free to call me Rias… Being called Miss Gremory makes me feel like I've aged another 20 years."

"What about your friend? Will she feel comfortable if I referred to you by your first name?" Looking up towards Akeno, she looks at her friend and nods.

But as soon as she does so, a rather dangerous grin appears on her face. "You know, calling each other by first names on a second meeting is rather scandalous, you know. Like, at any moment, you would just tear into our two innocent little lives."

I see her friend is also strange in her own ways. Both of us just decide to ignore that while I look towards the group of guys looking as if they want to tear me apart again. They are many fish in the sea, my friends, and besides, the overall beauty level in the school is almost unfair.

Rias just sighs and looks towards the guys again before they take off running. However, one looks like he was blushing, to which I just shook my head and tried to forget.

"So, Gray, you said you were only getting four hours of sleep?" Nodding, I began to gather up all of my things as lunch was about to end.

"What do you eat?" I then begin to name off a couple of the meals that I eat. However, most of them are either microwave meals or ramen.

The two look at me almost mortified, as if they were staring at a living ghost.

"Gray, that is incredibly unhealthy! You'll eventually crash out!" I just shrug, as I never really have the time to make meals for myself, other than on the few days where none of my jobs require my presence.

The two then look at each other before nodding. Rias then places another hand on my shoulder, and after doing a small fist bump, looks as if she's come up with a genius idea.

"Well, Gray, it was nice talking with you again. I'll see you tomorrow…" That sounds a lot more ominous than friendly, at least to me.

The two then leave as I had to partake in the rest of my classes.

(Six Hours Later)

Opening the door to my apartment, I placed down all my things and took another shower. Walking back into the kitchen, I see the holographic screen appear before me.

[Hello, user. I would like to inform you that my creator has given you an additional free 10 rolls as an apology for the increased time the system has taken to activate.]

Giving it a mental affirmative, the screen then changes before settling on what looks to be a ginormous wheel.

Seeing a small lever pop out of the screen, I then pull it. As the lever retracts, the wheel begins to spin.

Soon enough, the wheel ends up with 10 items before displaying them.

Taking off all of my clothes and making sure to close all of the shutters this time, I fall into the embrace of Morpheus.

[School Is In Session]

The words ring out in my mind, and as I find myself in a seemingly endless world… in the center, I see what looks to be a ginormous white statue hidden in white wrapping.

Yet as I get closer, the wrappings begin to fall apart, and soon enough, I see what looks to be a large woman with wings protruding from her head and a wheel floating ominously behind her.

Her eyes had been blindfolded, yet as she turns in my direction, a wide smile appears on her face, yet not one that comforts me, and from her mouth, she speaks a few words.

"Welcome to your new hell." And as she says that, she rushes me with a fist wound up, and before I can even blink, I find myself flying…

Funnily enough, I've actually had to increase some of the perks in terms of their price as some of them are just blatantly broken for the price they are given. But for now, I hope this shall suffice.)
