Chapter 206: Chapter 204: Illya's Return
The last time Illya came to Fuyuki City, it was as a participant of the Einzbern family in the Holy Grail War.
This time, she returned as the head of the Einzbern family.
"I've decided to relocate the Einzbern family to Japan."
These were the first words Illya spoke, wrapped in a thick coat and looking travel-worn, as she arrived at the Emiya household.
"Big sister, please change your clothes first."
"Sella, I know."
The interaction between the "big sister" and the maid aside, Li Mo, who was lounging under the kotatsu in the Emiya household, stretched out his hand and said, "Dear Illya, haven't you noticed that I'm the only one here? Shirou and the others' spring break is already over."
"Ah? How could that be~"
Illya's face fell as if she had been struck.
Her spirits dampened, Illya, after taking off her coat, skillfully slid under the kotatsu and said, "Why are you here, Li?"
Li Mo sat up and replied, "Of course, it's to get the first-hand information about the Einzbern family."
"Oh? And what are you offering in return?" Illya extended her hand.
There's no such thing as a free lunch, and Li Mo knew this well. He rummaged through his pockets, pulled out a single piece of candy, and placed it in Illya's hand.
"This is all I have. Is it acceptable?"
"Not acceptable," Illya said, refusing while unwrapping the candy and popping it into her mouth.
"You ate my bribe? How can you not keep your word?"
"Bribe? What bribe? I don't see any." Illya stuffed the wrapper into her pocket, physically erasing the evidence, her face showing a look of innocence, though her eyes remained lively.
Yes, this girl was doing it on purpose.
Li Mo said, "My dear Illya, what else do you want?"
"What's this... Do you think I'm just some greedy person in your eyes?" Illya covered her mouth, speaking in a ladylike manner.
Graceful and elegant, like a proper lady.
On the surface, she seemed upset at being seen as vulgar. But... the curve of her smile was a bit too obvious!
Li Mo retorted, "Alright, I can see the smile on your face. Why are you teasing me as soon as you get back? Was Germany that frustrating?"
If things in Germany had gone smoothly, Illya would have been calm. In truth, this girl had a somewhat cold personality.
After Kiritsugu left, her social circle had been limited, so it was normal for her to be a bit reserved. It was a miracle she hadn't turned out worse.
Bringing up her return, Illya slumped onto the kotatsu table, listlessly saying, "It felt like punching cotton. I finally understand why you hate orthodox magicians so much."
She had gone back to Germany with a sense of grievance. If not for the family's affairs, she could have spent five more years with Kiritsugu. But because of the Einzbern family, she never saw him again.
The anger of a girl who had lost her father was no small matter.
But when Illya actually returned to Germany...
"After the old man heard about the Holy Grail from me, he sighed and then coldly handed the family over to me. The Einzbern family's assets, patents, everything is mine now."
"And what about him?"
The Emiya household was mostly empty, with most of its residents at school. The Servants were all out doing their own things. Sella, familiar with the place, went to the kitchen to prepare tea, while Leysritt casually pulled out a game console and started playing.
"He committed suicide."
Illya paused. "The situation with the Holy Grail drove him to despair. The Einzbern family's wish could no longer be realized, so he chose to end his life."
She then went on to explain the situation of the Einzbern family in detail.
The Einzbern family was originally a group of disciples of the Third Magic user who gathered to recreate the Third Magic, aiming to create a homunculus capable of wielding it and thus mastering the Magic. Then, Justeaze Lizrich von Einzbern was born, but to their despair... her creation had little to do with the magicians. She was a miracle.
The magicians were driven to despair. Some chose suicide, others left.
Thus, the Einzbern family came to be managed by homunculi. And then, the plan for the Holy Grail War was born.
"Strictly speaking, my grandfather was the external interface of the central intelligence of the castle. When he realized that the nature of the Holy Grail had changed and that the sacrifice of the Winter Saint had become meaningless, Acht chose to abandon his existence."
Illya finished her explanation.
Now, the Einzbern family belonged entirely to Illya.
Of the three families that originally participated in the creation of the Holy Grail, only the younger generation remained.
"So, what was the family's wish?"
"To save the world. That's probably it... which is why they chose Kiritsugu." Illya turned her head and said.
The Einzbern family's wish was to save the world. And Kiritsugu Emiya shared the same goal. That's why they joined forces during the Fourth Holy Grail War.
Now, her feelings toward her grandfather were complicated. After learning the history of the Einzbern family, her feelings toward the family head were as mixed as her feelings toward Kiritsugu.
The anger she had felt earlier just... vanished.
She couldn't bring herself to be angry anymore.
"Another reason like that. Humanity can't be saved by a single individual."
The idea of using the Holy Grail to save the world was, in Li Mo's opinion, a fantasy. It was a castle in the air, utterly unrealistic.
Later, Li Mo managed to obtain the research materials of the Einzbern family from Illya. Normally, he would have had to pay a price for this, but he didn't.
It wasn't a case of getting something for nothing—Medea was by his side. The main person researching the Holy Grail was Medea, and the results of the research would be shared with Illya.
Additionally, Medea was responsible for teaching Illya.
Without staying for a meal at the Emiya household, Li Mo went shopping at the commercial district after obtaining the materials. He then returned to Mount Enzou with the ingredients. Since Koyanskaya's departure, he had been handling these tasks.
—His cooking skills were far inferior to Koyanskaya's.
But at least he only had to cook for himself.
"Medea, these are the Einzbern family's materials. Combined with the Tohsaka family's materials, progress should improve significantly."
"Yes, there will be a big improvement. The only regret is that the Matou family's materials are gone," Medea said.
Li Mo laughed awkwardly.
The Matou family's library had been destroyed because of him, and with Zouken Matou's death, the Matou family's magecraft had effectively been cut off.
Apparently, there were some backups at the Clock Tower. After all, Zouken had applied for patents... The problem was that they needed verification from the Clock Tower. And the Magic Crest on Sakura Matou wasn't from the Matou family.
This still needed to be dealt with properly.
Li Mo thought about this as he ate.
