Multiverse's Holy Right

Chapter 106: [106] A Campione Maid for 500 Euros

In a small shop on the streets of Athens, Greece, two of the current Campiones and a Heretic God were seated. Erica and Liliana sat primly to the side without uttering a word—this was a conversation between two Kings, and it wasn't their place to speak. In the presence of outsiders, they would never do anything unbecoming of their status.

The local magicians of Athens were on pins and needles, wanting to leave but not daring to do so. They could only sit stiffly, eyes downcast, doing their best to remain unnoticed.

Athena, on the other hand, had no desire to speak. Being around Campiones made her deeply uncomfortable. For Heretic Gods, they would rather engage enthusiastically with ordinary humans than stay in the company of Campiones. If not for Roy's authority that allowed him to alter his own nature, Athena, with her pride, would never have willingly associated with someone she considered 'reeking of foulness.'

"Madam, about the money I covered for you earlier..."

Roy spoke like a merchant steeped in the stench of coin. After ordering a few drinks, he immediately brought up the vulgar topic of 'money.'

Bringing up money with any other Campione would have been futile, but with Lady Aisha, it was the only approach that worked. So Roy didn't hesitate to strike at her weak point.

"Ah—the money, I'll pay you back later, sir. It's just that I'm a bit strapped for cash right now—I don't have a single cent on me. Give me a couple of days, and once I find a job, I'll repay you... Oh, by the way, you know my name, but I don't know yours. That doesn't seem fair."

Lady Aisha's face flushed, though fortunately, her olive-brown skin masked the redness somewhat.

"Roy Crowley. That's my name. I became your fellow Campione a little over a year ago after slaying a god."

Roy introduced himself. Even the reclusive Eastern Cult Leader had heard of Roy's name in the past year, yet Lady Aisha remained unaware—suggesting she hadn't been in the modern world recently, instead living in an ancient era.

"By the way, that stall owner earlier was affected by your authority, so he probably won't be able to work today. To compensate him, I gave him 500 euros! Which means, Lady Aisha, you owe me 500 euros. Given your current situation, you'll probably have to work in Athens to pay it back. But Greece's economy hasn't been great lately—500 euros... If you're just doing odd jobs, it'll take at least a month to pay it off."

Roy was as stingy as Scrooge, meticulously calculating every last cent with Lady Aisha.

"A month..."

Lady Aisha stiffened, then forced a dry laugh. "...Well, it is a bit long, but if you could wait just a month, Mr. Roy..."

"I don't mind waiting a month, Lady Aisha. But the people of Athens might suffer for it. I'm well aware of the uncontrollable nature of your authority—just like what happened on the street earlier. If you stay in Athens for a month, it would be nothing short of a tragedy for its citizens."

"...Or perhaps you wish to use your authorities to amass wealth from ordinary people? With the efficacy of your authorities, fanatical devotees would surely donate their entire family fortunes if you merely suggested it. The Greek people are already living in dire straits—their government recently went bankrupt. Once the effects of your authorities fade, those poor souls who gave you their life savings would be left destitute, unable to support their wives and children. Someone as kind-hearted as you wouldn't want to see such a scene, would you?"

Roy's tone was filled with compassion. Under the influence of Face of God, he truly seemed like a savior grieving for the suffering of all living beings, lamenting the world's countless hardships.

The local magicians in Athens nodded frantically in agreement. The idea of letting Lady Aisha stay in Athens for a month? That would spell doom for the city. Every magician knew how terrifying Lady Aisha was—a calamity even more dreadful than a Heretic God.

"Mr. Roy, how could you say such things about me? I'm very angry~~~"

Lady Aisha flushed red, flailing her arms like an irritated kitten.

"But I'm only speaking the truth."

"Ugh..."

Those words deflated her instantly.

"It's not like I want this either. I wish I could control my authorities properly, but I just can't."

Lady Aisha hung her head, her voice tinged with sorrow.

Someone as kind-hearted as her was truly ill-suited to be a Campione. Even after becoming one, she might have been a benevolent ruler, a "saint" who could save people from suffering. But fate played a cruel joke, rendering her unable to control her authorities, turning her into a dreaded natural disaster.

"So, I have a suggestion—would you care to hear it, Lady Aisha?"

This was when Roy finally revealed his true intentions.

"Mr. Roy, you're practically my idol now, being able to befriend a Heretic God. Please, speak your mind."

Lady Aisha replied with cheerful openness.

"Repaying debts is only natural, but given your circumstances, earning money isn't really feasible. How about this—you work for me instead? The pay is generous, and you'll quickly repay the 500 euros you owe me while saving up for your future travels. I know you love adventure and exploration—what do you think of this proposal?"

"...If Charm or Curse—the authority that most disrupts daily life—activates while you're near me, I can suppress it with my own authorities, just as I did earlier. And if Fairy's Corridor manifests as a Campione, I have nothing to fear. See? This way, you won't trouble anyone."

Roy coaxed her like a wolf luring Little Red Riding Hood.

No one else present spoke up. Erica, Liliana, and the Athenian magicians all knew Roy was bluffing. Athena herself cast a sidelong glance at him, her amber eyes filled with approval—to the goddess, this was wisdom in action...

Of course, Lady Aisha knew Roy was tricking her too. But her nature made her indifferent to such things—precisely why Roy had her right where he wanted her.

"Mr. Roy, how... how do you know so much about me? Could it be that you've been waiting here all along to do something to me?"

Lady Aisha crossed her arms in front of her chest, her beautiful face showing a frightened expression as she shrank back.

"I have no interest in 150-year-old women."

Roy spoke without thinking, the words slipping out before he could stop them.

The moment the words left his mouth, he knew he'd made a mistake and quickly raised his left hand in surrender.

As expected, Athena glared at him furiously, while Lady Aisha flushed with anger and said, "...I'm not 150 years old! I'm a 17-year-old beauty this year!"

"My mistake."

This wasn't the time for male pride—Roy immediately apologized.

"Your suggestion sounds good, but what exactly would you have me do?"

Lady Aisha quickly composed herself, leaning forward to ask.

Roy's proposal actually aligned perfectly with her wishes. He had already demonstrated how to neutralize her most troublesome Authority—the very reason she usually lived in seclusion, avoiding contact with others. It was the influence of this Authority that turned people into fanatical believers.

If this Authority could be nullified, she could finally experience normal social interactions and even legitimately earn travel expenses—exactly what she'd been hoping for.

"I recall you once worked as a maid, my lady. Do you still have those skills?"

Lady Aisha's eyes lit up, her voice excited as she replied, "...You want me to be a maid? Absolutely no problem! I've always been an excellent maid!"

She spoke with great pride, not considering the role of a maid as menial labor at all. To her, it was a noble profession—one that had changed her life.

Born into a low Indian caste 150 years ago, her fate had seemed bleak from the start. But by incredible luck, she became a maid for an English noble family, escaping India. The noble family treated her well, teaching her to read and write, lifting her from illiteracy.

After becoming a Campione, she had even served as a maid for Marquis Voban—during which time she managed to trick both the Marquis and the Eastern Cult Leader who came to challenge him.

So the idea of serving another Campione as a maid didn't bother her in the slightest.

Roy chuckled without comment. With his ability to see into the past, he knew exactly how skilled Lady Aisha was as a maid—not terrible, but certainly not outstanding, just average.

Still, managing to trick a Campione into being his maid for just 500 euros—there was probably no better businessman in the world than him.
