Chapter 119: Lessons from his Family (2/4)
Sett went up and wrapped his hand around Ismera, he placed his forehead against hers. "But you will not die."
"Everyone dies, kid."
Sett leaned forward, but she placed a finger on his lips. "Not here, this is sacred grounds. Respect our ancestors."
"The dead cannot receive respect anyway."
She sighed, but the resistance in her eyes wavered. Slowly, her hand fell away. Ismera was not the type to respect traditions and ancestors.
On the other hand, Sett believed that his ancestors wouldn't take offense to their offspring being a bit cheeky. After all, if he were the one in their place, he would just feel proud that his descendant was flirting with a woman more than twice his age.
Heh.
Sett leaned forward and took Ismera's soft lips with a kiss. He invaded her sweet, wine-tasting mouth with his tongue. His hand instinctively pulled her closer to him, pressing her against himself.
She did not resist, letting him be boulder than usual with the kiss.
Usually, Ismera closed her eyes when they kissed. But this time, she did not do that. She indulged him with her tongue while throwing a provocative glare at Nadia.
You see this girl?
You, his wife, is right there and the one he wants to kiss is me. His grandmother. Don't you get your place now?
She felt the rarely-felt feeling of smugness. It was a nice feeling.
Nadia just stared in dumbfounded surprise.
But unlike what Ismera thought, Nadia felt different. Dang, Sett really did what he told he would do.
Long ago, when Sett and she were wrapped under silken sheets, he had told her a bold thing. He had said that he always wished to kiss Ismera. At that point, she had found it just a whimsical desire, but now, it was clearly not just a whim.
She felt admiration.
Sett parted from Ismera, a bridge of saliva hanging between them.
"Why are we here, grandma?"
"To see a God and receive his blessings."
Sett blinked. "What?"
"Not a real God. It's just the statue of a God that our family worships. It's a ceremony of sorts that all Ramses members have to go through at some point.
"Well, we are here for you and Nadia. SInce she married you, she is also part of the Ramses Family. As for your other wives, you will have to hold this ceremony with them one by one in due time."
Sett blinked as he looked around at the statues.
"Oh. Is the God that we are worshipping the one said to have slept with our ancestors in the distant past?"
Ismera nodded.
Then, she began walking around the chamber, looking at the statues one by one.
Nadia moved closer to Sett.
Sett held her hand and looked at Ismera again.
"So, which statue do we ask for blessing?"
"Here." Ismera pointed at a statue in the center, one that had a beam of light from above brightening its face. "This statue, that's our God. Just ask him for blessings and get it done with. Then we will go on with our business."
Sett stared at the statue. This statue did not have any facial features.
"Okay."
Ismera crossed her arms. "Sorry for wasting your time, kid. Your mother insisted I bring you here, but it's pointless. I won't tell you to take it seriously."
Sett stepped forward, Nadia's hand tightly held in his hand, and gave a perfunctory bow to the statue. His wife followed suit.
They asked in unison: "God, please bless us."
Then, covertly, Nadia's hand transformed into a wisp of flame and entered Sett's palm. He did not resist the invasion.
Now, she could talk inside his head without his grandmother hearing.
"Your grandma is so smug," Nadia chuckled. "Hubby, you can kiss her whenever you like now? You got some skill. I remember you always saying you wanted to kiss her."
Sett smiled.
He used to fantasize kissing Ismera all the time, but only recently had he gained the confidence to actually pull it off. And god, was it worth it. After going into Tombs with her, they had grown close enough to kiss at any time.
He gulped.
Yeah she tastes so damn good, he said with his expression. I wonder why she is so damn sweet.
Nadia was good at reading his expressions.
"Is she better than me? You told me you liked how hot I am!"
"Don't ask such stupid questions and ask the God for blessings," he said audibly.
But he had to admit Nadia was hot with her kisses.
Nadia scoffed and asked for blessing again.
Then, they stood up and stretched.
"Is it done? Let's go grands."
Ismera nodded. "Let's go, you idiot couple." She turned, then paused, her sharp gaze cutting through them. "And don't think for a second that I didn't hear every word, Nadia. I have the Axiom of Information for a reason!" Her eyes narrowed at Sett. "And you, cheeky brat, consider this your last kiss. You are never touching me again."
The bastard was having a secret conversation about kissing her!
No shame at all!
Though, deep down, she felt no real anger at him. But for some reason, the fact that Nadia was not pissed at the situation made her pissed.
It was rare for Ismera to feel such petty feelings, but she embraced them wholeheartedly.
Nadia blinked shamelessly and then looked at Sett apologetically.
Sett groaned. Fuck you, Nadia… you always try to help and ruin it for me.
Sett groaned.
Before they could react, a voice echoed through the room.
"Sett."
Sett froze.
Mother?!
It was his mother's voice.
"Yeah, it's me," Neilara's voice came, firm and unyielding. "I am sending this message using an energy-expensive Axiom—I forgot to tell you something before you left.
"I know how brash and reckless you three are, so listen up: Don't do anything reckless inside the Ancestral Grounds.
"Show the statues the respect they deserve—they are our ancestors, and the God that gave birth to all Axioms. So, don't mess around.
"And remember, Gods can see those who defy them. They might curse you."
