Chapter 478: Three People Explore the Burial Buddha Ground

In the Western Regions, on the farthest edge, lies a nameless vast Gobi where the scorching sun hung in the sky like a flaming ball, turning the land golden and blisteringly hot. The unbearable temperature for mortals and the extremely thin spiritual energy ensured no sign of human life.

That day, however, three figures arrived at this place, a man and two women—Ge Wenxiong, Yu Qingtan, and Shen Wanning.

Ge Wenxiong wore a tight-fitting battle armor that alternated between black and gold, its plates shimmering with a cold sheen in the sunlight. He sported a leather protective headband embedded with a ruby and lock of hair fluttered in the wind from his forehead, and a wide belt adorned with various gems encircled his waist.

Yu Qingtan was dressed in an elegant, pale moon-white gauze gown that seemed to dance with the wind, ready to meld into the vastness of the heavens and earth at any moment. Her attire was embroidered with delicate patterns of lotus and auspicious clouds, every stitch revealing exquisite craftsmanship and tasteful elegance. Her black hair was simply coiffed with a jade hairpin, with strands casually draping over her shoulders, and her dark eyes sparkled with wisdom and gentleness.

Shen Wanning was clad in a light yellow long dress in the style of the Western Regions, tailored to her graceful figure. Her raven hair was tied up high, exposing her smooth forehead, and a delicate forehead ornament added allure to her appearance. A string of small bells at her waist tinkled with a pleasing sound as she moved.

All three were protected by inferior Dao artifacts that Yu Qingtan had crafted. Needless to say, Shen Wanning's wardrobe was custom-made by Yu Qingtan. Ge Wenxiong's battle armor was partly in gratitude for his analysis of opportunities and also for his protection.

After obtaining Ge Wenxiong's map, Yu Qingtan examined it carefully, confirmed its authenticity, and it indeed pointed to the legendary Burial Buddha Ground. However, the entrance was located in what is now the Western Regions, the Gobi where the trio currently stood.

Yu Qingtan called Shen Wanning over, and together they conducted a reading with the Hongluan Secret Omen, which yielded an auspicious result. Yu Qingtan felt at once that with the addition of Shen Wanning, this fortunate star, the journey was assured. Read latest chapters on My Virtual Library Empire

Ge Wenxiong knew Shen Wanning, and upon seeing her as a Divine Transformation Cultivator, he was astonished, silently praising her Fortune Cultivation Body for having such a companion as Fairy Qingtan.

As the sun slowly sank below the horizon, the temperature in the Gobi finally eased slightly, but the air was still filled with suffocating dryness and heat waves. Yu Qingtan, Ge Wenxiong, and Shen Wanning, map in hand, followed the intricate and ancient runes to navigate through the seemingly endless desert Gobi.

Only when the moonlight, soft as water, spilled over the ancient stones, revealing mottled shadows, did Yu Qingtan stop. She gazed at a part of the Gobi that appeared no different from its surroundings, but her eyes glinted with an unusual light. She lightly lifted her hand, her fingertips touching the air as if sensing something. "This is the place," she said softly, her tone carrying a hint of irrefutable certainty.

Ge Wenxiong and Shen Wanning immediately gathered around. Yu Qingtan's spiritual power stirred slightly, and a yellow protective barrier enveloped the three of them, sinking them into the ground.

They passed through layers of sand ten-odd zhang deep, then through over a hundred zhang of sandstone before coming to a halt.

"Open!" Yu Qingtan exclaimed in a low voice, as her spiritual power erupted forth. Amidst a shower of flying sand and rock, a vast open space was formed around them, with the outline of an ancient formation gradually appearing on the stone layer below. The formation was intricately complex, faintly radiating a soft Buddha light.

Suddenly, the map in Yu Qingtan's hand self-ignited without fire, turning into a light that merged into the formation below.

As the map merged with the ancient formation in the form of light, the entire space seemed to be gently awakened, starting to tremble slightly, carrying an aura of ancient solemnity. The complex formation gradually lit up with a soft golden glow, like Buddha's light spreading far and wide, dispelling the cold and darkness of the underground.

Ge Wenxiong and Shen Wanning looked at each other, their eyes full of surprise and anticipation. They followed closely behind Yu Qingtan, who appeared calm as he watched the changes around them.

Finally, the light converged, forming a gate of light at the center of the formation.

"Let's go and meet the legendary Burial Buddha Ground," Yu Qingtan smiled, taking the lead and stepping into the gate of light. Ge Wenxiong and Shen Wanning followed right after, with Shen Wanning tucking away the bell at her waist.

Passing through the gate of light, the three of them seemed to step into another world. The scene before their eyes changed dramatically—it was a world deep and eerie. The space was permeated with an ancient and heavy presence, as if it could penetrate a person's soul.

The ground was no longer made of hard stone layers, but had become a surface assembled from countless tiny Buddha statue fragments. Each piece was carved with exquisite Buddha patterns, now speckled and disjointed due to the erosion of time, exuding an indescribable sadness and desolation.

Above their heads was no longer a closed stone ceiling but a dome outlined by faint luminescence. Those lights seemed to originate from deeper within, scattered across the endless darkness like stars, yet they carried an ominous portent.

Below the dome, the occasional cold wind swept through, lifting tiny stone chips and dust, producing a low, mournful whine, like the whispers of ancient lost souls.

In the distance, huge Buddha statues either stood or lay, some with only half of their bodies remaining, yet they still maintained their dignified postures, their empty gazes fixed on the far horizon, as if lamenting endless sorrow and vigil. These Buddha statues, some smiling, some angry, were all in different forms, but without exception, they bore the signs of great age. Some faces were covered with moss while others were full of cracks, like the scars of time.

As far as the eye could see, there were more pagodas, big and small, some of which had already collapsed. From them, the three seemed to hear chants echoing, sounding like calls from ancient times and also like the transcendental sounds of monks, inciting an inexplicable reverence and melancholy in one's heart.

The three knew that these pagodas were the burial sites of those from the Buddha Sect after their divinity transformations.

"This is the legendary Burial Buddha Ground..." Ge Wenxiong murmured in a low voice, his tone filled with both emotion and caution, "We must be careful, this place not only hides the secrets of the Buddha Sect but may also harbor unknown dangers."

"No matter, just stay close to me!" Yu Qingtan said, and then moved forward levitating, but he avoided flying over the top of the pagodas, with Shen Wanning and Ge Wenxiong following closely behind.

"Who is it? Who dares disturb my slumber!" As the trio advanced, a voice suddenly emanated from a massive pagoda, towering a hundred zhang, startling both Ge Wenxiong and Shen Wanning.

"Qing Tan, how can there still be living people here?" Shen Wanning asked, nervously clutching Yu Qingtan's sleeve.
