Chapter 36: chapter 36
Y/N Pov
It had been a week since that night on the balcony.
Everything had been moving so fast — plans being made, quiet preparations happening behind the scenes.
Then this morning, I received a call from Mr. Hanamitchi.
He asked me for a private meeting — and specifically told me to come alone.
I hesitated at first.
Something about it felt… off.
But somehow, I also felt like this was part of what Haru and Yuri had been preparing me for — standing on my own two feet.
So, I didn't tell Yuri.
Not yet.
I arrived at Hanamitchi Hotel that afternoon, dressed simply but neatly, nerves twisting in my stomach.
The staff was expecting me.
They bowed respectfully and guided me through the luxurious, dimly lit halls, each step echoing a little too loudly against the marble floors.
Finally, one of the attendants stopped in front of a heavy wooden door.
"Right this way, Miss Y/N," he said softly, then bowed and left.
I took a breath and pushed the door open.
Inside…
There, sitting calmly at the head of a long table, was Uncle Haru.
He was dressed sharply in a dark suit, one hand resting casually on the table, the other holding a glass of water.
His expression was unreadable — a mix of sternness and something deeper… something almost like pride.
He looked up as I entered, a small nod acknowledging me.
"Come in, Y/N," he said, his voice steady, commanding — yet carrying a strange warmth underneath.
"I've been waiting for you."
The door closed quietly behind me.
And just like that —
I knew.
Whatever was about to happen… it wasn't just another casual meeting.
I sat down across from Mr. Hanamitchi, feeling the weight of the moment press against my chest.
Without a word, he slid something across the table toward me — a rectangular object.
It made a faint sound against the polished surface as it stopped in front of me.
I looked down.
It was a ticket.
I hesitated for a second, then carefully picked it up.
It wasn't just any ticket — it was an international flight ticket.
Before I could even ask, Uncle Haru spoke, his voice calm but serious.
"Y/N," he said, his fingers steepled under his chin,
"I didn't tell Yuri about this meeting. Nor does he know that I've already selected the destination for you."
I stared at him, my heart thudding loudly against my ribs.
"So keep this a secret," he continued, his gaze never leaving mine.
"You have to walk on your own if you want to be stronger."
I gripped the ticket tighter, feeling the weight of what he was asking.
Haru's expression softened just slightly, but the firmness in his voice remained.
"I didn't plan to separate you from my son," he said quietly.
"It's only because… you must clear your mission before meeting him again."
He leaned back slightly, his eyes almost sad for a moment.
"Your mind must be fully concentrated.
No distractions.
No hesitations."
I bit my lower lip, staring down at the ticket in my hands.
A mission.
A journey.
A separation — but not out of punishment.
Out of trust.
Uncle Haru believed I could become something more.
And so did I… even if the thought of leaving Yuri, even for a little while, hurt more than I wanted to admit.
I nodded slowly, lifting my eyes to meet his.
"I understand, Uncle," I said, my voice steady — even if inside, I was trembling.
Uncle Haru's voice stayed firm, giving me no room for doubts.
"I'm giving you five days, Y/N," he said, locking eyes with me.
"Five days to pack your things, to spend time with Yuri… and to select an acting chairman to take your place while you're gone."
I nodded slowly, the ticket still clutched in my hand like it weighed a thousand pounds.
He leaned forward slightly, his gaze even sharper now.
"You must complete all of these things before your departure," he continued.
"Make no mistakes. Leave no unfinished business behind."
I pressed my lips together, absorbing every word, feeling the pressure building. But more than pressure — I felt purpose.
This wasn't just leaving.
It was setting everything right before I stepped away.
"And," he added, pausing for a second as if weighing his next words carefully,
"two people will be coming with you."
I looked up quickly, my heart jumping slightly.
"They will guide you," Haru assured me. "They are trustworthy. You'll be safe."
I exhaled slowly, feeling a little of the overwhelming fear settle.
But before I could feel any relief, Haru dropped the real bomb.
"And there's one more thing you must know…" he said, his voice dropping lower, heavier.
I tensed instinctively.
"Renzo," Haru said, his tone cold,
"is now in our custody."
My eyes widened.
Renzo.
The man who had been causing silent ripples beneath our feet — the one we had been warned about but never confronted.
"You will handle him yourself," Haru continued.
"After your seclusion. After you're ready."
He pointed at me, firm and commanding.
"Keep that in your mind, Y/N.
When you come back… your first mission will be handling Renzo."
The room suddenly felt too small, too heavy, too fast.
But somewhere deep inside me — past the fear, past the uncertainty — something ignited.
A small, stubborn flame.
I'm not running away.
I'm preparing.
For myself.
For them.
For everything.
I gripped the ticket tighter, swallowing my fear.
"Understood, Uncle," I said firmly.
And I meant it.
I exited the Hanamitchi Hotel, the heavy door closing behind me with a soft thud.
The moment the night air hit my face, I realized how tight my chest had become.
My mind was spinning — full of confusion, of pressure, of choices I couldn't afford to mess up.
I stood there for a second, breathing in slowly, trying to calm the storm inside me.
Then I pulled out my phone and without thinking too much, called my assistant.
"Arrange a board meeting tomorrow ," I said the moment he picked up. My voice was sharp, commanding — not leaving room for hesitation.
"I have to select an acting chairman before the end of the week. Make it happen."
"Yes, ma'am," he replied quickly, sensing the urgency.
I ended the call and immediately dialed another number — one that brought a little bit of peace just hearing it ring.
My dad's assistant.
The most trustworthy person I had ever met — loyal, sharp, and someone who had stood by my father's side until the very end.
When he answered, his familiar calm voice greeted me.
"Young Lady?" he said warmly.
"What can I do for you?"
Hearing him nearly broke the wall I had built around my emotions.
But I kept my voice steady.
"I need your help," I said quietly. "I… need guidance. Just like my father would have given me."
There was a short pause — and then his voice, full of reassurance.
"Of course, Young Lady.
Where should we meet?"
I closed my eyes for a second, feeling a little stronger already.
"Can you come to my Residence Now?," I said. "There's a lot we have to talk about."
"I'll be there," he promised.
As I hung up, I looked up at the night sky — dark, endless, but somehow calming.
I had Five days.
Five days to set everything in place.
Five days to say goodbye without saying it out loud.
And then…
it would be just me against the world.
Fernandez Residence.
I sat on the living room couch, sinking into the soft cushions, my eyes locked onto the grand chandelier hanging above.
Its crystals sparkled under the warm lights, almost mocking how heavy my heart felt.
I leaned my head back against the couch, letting my eyes blur out the brightness.
But no matter how much I tried to empty my mind,
Yuri's face kept flashing across my thoughts.
His smile.
The way he always looked at me — fierce, protective, gentle.
My chest ached.
"How can I leave without saying goodbye to you…"
I thought bitterly, my hands gripping the fabric of the couch tightly.
"I will miss you so much…"
"But I have to seize the opportunity your dad gave me."
It was tearing me apart —
the idea of walking away without telling him everything.
Without explaining why I had to disappear.
But I knew what Uncle Haru meant.
I needed focus.
And Yuri… Yuri was my heart.
If I let him know, I knew he would follow, would protect — even if it meant getting in the way of the very growth I needed.
I closed my eyes tightly, fighting back the sting of tears.
Five days.
Five precious, cruel days to spend with him without giving away the secret that would tear us apart for a while.
I whispered into the quiet, almost praying the words could reach him somehow:
"Wait for me, Yuri."
"Please… wait for me."
The doorbell rang, pulling me sharply out of my thoughts.
I sat up quickly, wiping the corners of my eyes just in case, and hurried to open the door.
Standing there was my dad's assistant — the man who had always been my father's right hand.
His kind but firm expression made me feel, just for a second, like everything was going to be okay.
"Come in," I said, stepping aside.
We sat together in the living room, papers and notes spread out in front of us.
For a while, it felt like old times — serious conversations about things I barely understood back then, but now had no choice but to master.
We talked about company management, about the current board members, about the financial reports.
I asked questions — serious, determined — and he answered with calm precision, just like he used to do with my father.
Finally, he leaned back slightly and looked at me carefully.
"Young Lady," he said in a tone that told me to really listen,
"for the acting chairman, you must choose someone who can protect what your father built. Someone loyal, and most importantly, capable."
I nodded slowly, waiting.
"And that person," he continued,
"is the CEO of Fer Corp."
I blinked, surprised.
The CEO?
"He's the one who transformed the company's growth over the past two years," the assistant said firmly.
"He doesn't chase politics. He doesn't waste time. He simply does his work — straight, honest, and efficient."
I absorbed his words carefully.
Choosing the CEO made sense.
But it also meant putting an incredible amount of trust in someone while I was gone.
Still…
If my dad's assistant recommended him, and if he had proven his loyalty through action —
then maybe he really was the right choice.
"I'll meet with him tomorrow," I said finally, my voice steady.
"I'll make it official."
The assistant smiled softly, proud.
"Your father would be proud too," he said gently.
And for the first time that day…
I allowed myself a small smile too.
The conversation deepened as my dad's assistant leaned forward, his brows furrowing slightly in concern.
"You'll be meeting the CEO tomorrow," he said.
"But you need to be prepared, young Lady. He will ask — why you're stepping aside. What will you tell him?"
I hesitated for a moment, fingers nervously tapping against my knee.
But I already knew the answer buried in my heart.
"I'll tell him," I said slowly, forming the words carefully,
"I will be going away for a while."
I looked straight at my dad's assistant, my voice growing steadier with every syllable.
"Please look after the company while I'm gone," I said firmly.
"And please… don't tell anyone about my whereabouts."
The assistant watched me closely, assessing, and then finally gave a small nod of approval.
"You've grown stronger," he said simply.
"But remember," he added, his tone dropping a little lower, "trust is a double-edged sword.
Give it wisely, and you'll be rewarded.
Give it blindly… and you'll pay the price."
I nodded, the weight of his words sinking deep into me.
This wasn't just about me anymore.
It was about the company.
My father's legacy.
And the future I was about to fight for — alone.
Y/N's phone dinged, vibrating softly against the coffee table.
She glanced over and saw the message lighting up her screen.
"Miss, are you free tonight? — Yuri
For a moment, she just stared at it, heart tightening. She closed the screen quickly, hiding the trembling of her fingers, and turned back to her dad's assistant.
"Thank you… for everything," she said, bowing her head slightly in gratitude. He gave a respectful nod, his eyes kind but filled with silent understanding.Without asking more, he gathered his papers and quietly left, giving Y/N the space she needed.
Alone now, she climbed the stairs slowly, her legs feeling heavier than usual.
Each step made the reality sink deeper —her time was running out.
Reaching her room, she threw herself onto the bed, the soft mattress swallowing her up.The house around her was quiet, the only sound the faint hum of the air conditioning and the distant ticking of the clock. She turned her phone over in her hand, unlocking it.There it was again.
Yuri's message.
Simple.
Gentle.
Like him.
She stared at it for a long second, her chest tightening painfully.
Finally, she let the wall around her heart fall just a little.
Her fingers moved quickly across the keyboard, pouring all the ache she couldn't say out loud into two simple words:
"I miss you."
She pressed send, then held the phone to her chest, closing her eyes.
If only he knew…
how much more she would miss him soon.
