My Idle System

Chapter 177: Essence Gained (1)

Two days had passed. Christian, who had returned to his room after seeing Eva out, was now lying on his bed, thinking about the initial plan his sister and Eva had come up with during these two busy days.

Since he wanted to move to one of the coldest areas possible, disliking hot weather, and preferred to be far from Washington, where the academy was nearby, they initially went to the extreme and suggested Alaska. They even considered relocating to a place near the ocean or a mountain for a pleasant view. However, because Christian felt it was too far this time, they eventually settled on Minnesota, near the largest lake there, Lake Superior.

They found a luxurious house, even bigger than what he had originally wanted, not far from Duluth. The property also came with a vacant plot of land beside it, and they were now working on acquiring both.

Christian didn't have any issues with the place they were planning to move to. Even though the house might not be ready by the time they arrived, they could simply stay at a hotel for a while until everything was prepared. As for the other things he had asked them to take note of, they were being followed closely. So, what occupied his thoughts more now was the plan they had drafted regarding how he would deal with Damian.

There were two routes they could take. The first involved using Damian's caution and how he hired additional guards against him, by impersonating a newly hired bodyguard, or even approaching him as a driver replacement.

The second option relied on enlisting the help of Damian's assistant. They had plenty of leverage against him, after all, enough to easily blackmail him into cooperating.

Alternatively, they could combine both approaches, starting with the first plan while ensuring the assistant's cooperation to prevent any unforeseen issues.

While Christian was also leaning toward the option of using the assistant, he couldn't help but feel concerned about the implications, especially with someone already behind him.

He was already entangled with the Infinitel company, after all, so did he really need to involve himself with another giant company now?

That was the one problem he couldn't be sure about.

But, feeling he wouldn't find an answer anytime soon, Christian decided to shift his focus to a more pressing matter… his Idle accumulation!

Looking at his Idle Practicing slots, Christian felt a surge of excitement but then hesitated. Should he receive everything else first and save his Essence technique for last, just like the previous time?

He would have liked to do that, but in the end, he couldn't resist indulging in the sweetest reward this time. He decided to start with the fourth slot instead!

As soon as he willed his system to receive the Idle accumulation, Christian felt a surge of energy flowing from somewhere into his body; some of it nourishing him, while the rest simply stayed within. Along with this energy came a huge flood of information about the technique, pouring gently and directly into his brain.

Christian fully immersed himself in the experience, vividly feeling how his body was growing stronger. Your next chapter awaits on My Virtual Library Empire

As he digested the information he received, Christian came to understand once again that the technique, true to its name, was a blade-focused one. It required a weapon along the lines of a sword, though a dagger could also suffice.

It wasn't a technique strictly limited by the type of weapon, as long as the chosen one was sharp enough. At the same time, it wasn't diverse enough to be effective with all weapons. Instead, it clearly demonstrated the limitations of a low-level technique.

Aside from that, he also uncovered something else… something that seemed to be the most important aspect: property.

The technique Christian was currently training with was related to Shadow, so he would accumulate only shadow-attributed essence within his body. If he wanted to change the technique later, he would either need to convert the essence inside him to match the new technique or search for another technique that was also related to Shadow.

Christian felt he had made the right decision in preventing his sister from learning an essence technique too hastily. He now understood that she first needed to carefully choose the element she wanted to commit to from the beginning. Changing it later would take an enormous amount of time, even if slightly less than starting to accumulate essence from scratch.

Most importantly, as Christian began to understand more about the properties of essence, he realized that even the surrounding essence was influenced by nature, be it the weather, the time of day, or many other factors. And having reviewed the method for testing talents, he couldn't help but find it overly crude.

It seemed so primitive to him that he couldn't understand why no one had questioned it yet. The method he discovered involved some "supposed expert" channeling a minuscule amount of essence into a child's body. Then, from the reaction they observed, they would then determine the child's talent.

That is, if the said child had at least some attunement to essence. If not, their body wouldn't be able to handle it, which would transform the body and drive the child to lose their sanity… essentially leading to death.

Setting aside the worst outcome, which according to the information he received was very "rare," did this method truly take the properties of essence into account? For instance, if the expert specialized in the fire element and the child had talent in water, would the result really not be affected?

This line of thinking might be a bit extreme, and it wasn't like in novels where most people specialize in one or two elements. In reality, the element might not play as significant a role, and it could simply be a general talent in everything… but what if?

If even the essence could be influenced by its surroundings, who was to say that the human body wouldn't also be affected, sometimes leaning toward a specific element?

Christian couldn't be sure about any of these things for now, but his previous thoughts about researching the talent test and developing a stronger technique on his own for his sister had only solidified. He trusted himself and his Idle System more than any of these people or the techniques - if this crude method could even be called one - that they had created.

Then again, realizing how much he had drifted from his current focus, Christian tried to push these thoughts aside to think about them later, as he refocused on summarizing his understanding of the current essence technique.

And as he did that he concluded that there was still an advantage to this technique, especially given his current situation. He needed more concealment, and this technique came at just the right time… after all, it was related to shadows.

Even so, as Christian properly understood how these essence techniques worked and how people trained in them saw the world, he found his current technique lacking. It couldn't conceal the fact that he was not a normal human who had never touched essence, after all.

And for those who had touched essence, the thing that strengthened the most in them was perception!

With his current abilities, Christian could actually try to mask his presence, and even do so more effectively in dark places, but that was the limit. Was he supposed to become a vampire who couldn't see the light of day anymore?

Most importantly, even in the dark, if someone who had touched essence were to focus even slightly on their surroundings, they would find him. The moment the person laid eyes on him, he would be exposed, as the essence in the air would react differently to those who had already touched essence and those who hadn't. To anyone who had trained, it would be painfully obvious.

But aside from all that, aside from the issues related to the essence technique, there was an even more important matter... the difference in his Idle Practicing!

Christian realized that, in the past, it would have seemed as though he was practicing in the best possible environment… meaning essentially it's still within the realm of ordinary environment. But now, he was in a setting that felt straight out of a fantasy, an environment filled with shadows, perfectly suited to his technique!

He couldn't help but feel that the potential of the current environment was far higher than what he was currently tapping into. And it was his specs; his comprehension, his constitution, and even more so the technique he was practicing, that were limiting him from fully exploiting it.

He felt his heart bleeding at how much he was wasting!
