Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Haze Of Red Part 1
[Will you use the Binding Vow ticket?]
[Yes] or [No]
I had been staring at the panel with those words for the past hour after receiving a cabin from the merchants- 'Pirates.' My frown turned into a grimace at the thought, which reminded me of the Quest.
'It'll be no different than killing a monkey...' I sighed, cutting off my thoughts as I addressed the system. "How does the Binding Vow work? Is it the same as in Jujutsu Kaisen?" I barely remembered anything about it, so I was hoping the system would explain.
*Ding!*
^System Response!^ [Binding Vow usage: Once the Host makes a Binding Vow using the Binding Vow Ticket, the user will be able to create either a self-imposed or companion restriction in exchange for greater power!]
I hummed thoughtfully before asking another question. "Is there a limit?"
*Ding!*
^System Response!^ [The greater the want, the greater the price needed to pay.]
'So it's basically equivalent exchange?' I cupped my chin as I stared at the panel, laying down on the hard wooden bed. I opened my mouth and pulled out Mobile Inventory which transformed into its snake form and stared at me. 'If I make a Binding Vow, I can exchange Mobile Inventory's Orphis skill so it can no longer shrink, in exchange for the ability to use Haki...'
*Ding!*
^System Response!^ [The Host can never use Haki.]
I stared at the panel with narrowed eyes. 'It's responding without being directed now?' I waited for a few minutes, but it didn't say anything more. Sighing, I gave up on that train of thought. "The best use I can think of other than that, would be..." I was cut off as my thoughts took over. 'Exchange your eye to navigate the seas.'
I blinked as I stood up, causing Mobile Inventory to fall from my chest. "What?" I questioned, only to receive an answer from my own mind. 'While the mutt didn't rip your left eye out, it did cause permanent damage.' I blinked again, starting to understand what my thoughts were getting at. In exchange for something I could barely see out of, I could navigate a world that was practically all water.
I hummed thoughtfully as I sat back on the bed, eyeing one of the iron swords I had sitting in the corner with the rest stuffed in Mobile Inventory. "Or I could have the Binding Vow take my left eye in exchange for that skill from Demon Slayer." Tapping my chin, I considered how best to word it. I almost drew a blank before snapping my fingers. "That's it!" I looked at the system panel with the [Yes] and [No] options and selected my choice.
*Ding!*
^System Alert!^ [Binding Vow Ticket has been used! Please say the Vow so the system can check if it's eligible!]
Raising an eyebrow, I spoke the vow aloud.
~Scene Change~
"KahaKaha! Finally out of the room, brat!" I smiled awkwardly at who I assumed was the captain of the ship as he slapped me on the back. "Thank you again for not leaving me on that island." He merely laughed and slapped me again before pulling out a mop and bucket. "We'll be resupplying at the next island. Till then, you'll clean the deck to pay us back!"I looked at the tools, then back at the man before sighing. "All right, sounds fair." He laughed again before walking off to speak with one of the merchants aboard about something.
I turned my attention to the deck and began my work, sweeping it as I was reminded once more of my lack of vision due to my left eye after the Binding Vow. 'I would say I'm surprised that they didn't say anything about my scars or the fresh wounds... But I guess it's normal in this world?' Sighing, I mopped a tough stain off the deck before freezing for a moment as the system sounded. I acted as though nothing had happened, continuing to read the grey panel.
*Ding!*
^System Alert!^ [Would Host like to claim the Rewards in the Reward Inventory?]
'Uhh, sure?' I thought.
*Ding!*
^System Alert!^ [Quest 100/100? Reward: ? -> 100/100 Animals killed! Reward: Flintlock .44 Caliber 6 Shot Revolver.]
My eyes widened as with a small pop, a flintlock appeared in front of me. Instincts took over, and I grabbed the gun, tucking it into my pants before quickly scanning the area to see if anyone had heard or seen that. 'Seems no one did...' Sighing in relief, I eyed the new grey panel that appeared

'Don't know why I was expecting more.' Sighing again, I made sure the revolver was tucked properly now aware that it was loaded, before continuing to mop the deck until the sun began to set.
~Scene Change~
"Thank you for the food." I gave a small bow as I handed my plate back, thanking the cook before walking out of the mess deck and heading to my room. Once inside, I rolled my shoulders before removing my shirt and withdrawing the Flintlock Revolver from my pants. I sat down next to Mobile Inventory, who had slept through the entire day.
"It's a gun..." I snorted at my observation, holding the weapon with one hand while looking down its length. 'With the Binding Vow, it's pretty easy to aim.' I nodded at my thoughts, swinging the cylinder out to check the rounds. I removed them, then swung the cylinder back in and aimed at a fly buzzing around my room.
"Bang." I mimicked the recoil by flicking the Flintlock Revolver up slightly, then tilted the gun so it rested in my palms. 'Guess I've got to figure out how to incorporate this into my current fighting style.' Sighing, I reloaded the gun and tossed it in front of Mobile Inventory, who lazily opened its eyes before swallowing the weapon.
Just as I did so, there was a knock at the door.
"Coming!" I called. Getting up, I stretched out my hand to Mobile Inventory, who slithered up my arm before eating its tail. This allowed me to place it in my mouth and let it fall into my throat. I opened the door to find a man with tan skin and a missing arm standing in the hallway.
"Sorry for making you wait, sir." I said as I stepped aside.
He grunted, then pointed his thumb for me to follow. I nodded but deep down, my instincts told me to avoid following. 'It's a trap.' My gut agreed with my thoughts, but I hoped both my gut and thoughts were wrong.
"Uhm..." I began, unsure of what to say.
The tanned man grunted again and spoke. "What's your thoughts on pirates, kid?"
I blinked, then he continued. "You are aware of where you are, right? If not, turn around and head back to your room. Wait until we arrive at an island, stay there and forget everything that's happened in the last few minutes.
"My eyes narrowed as I processed his words, halting in my tracks. The man ignored my pause and kept walking. 'That's pretty much an admission of them being pirates. Kill them when their guard is down and reap the rewards!'
I gripped my hands until my nails punctured my palms, causing them to bleed. 'They are no different than animals, Kai! Slit their throats and let their blood drain…'
Biting my lip, I shook the thoughts away and took a step forward, walking behind the tanned man who merely turned his head with a raised eyebrow.
"I'm sure you've realized, but I'll let the Cap' tell you everything." he said.
I nodded, forcibly relaxing my hands as I followed him.
~Scene Change~
"KahaKaha! I see you made your choice, kid!" I stared at the captain of the ship, taking in his appearance once more. He had tanned skin, extremely hairy arms, a beer belly larger than my entire torso and missing teeth, with the ones remaining being gold. He wore a pirate hat to top it off.
'His bounty is lower than I thought it would be.' My eye moved above his hat to a bounty poster on the wall behind him. There, I saw his picture with a ฿60,000,000 bounty. 'Twice the amount of Luffy's.'
My green eye lowered to the name on the poster. 'Kruff Stuffy, Captain of the Stuffy Pirates. What a weird name.' Ignoring the fact that the main cast's pirate crew had a name based on a hat, I met Kruff's grey eyes and he smiled wider in response.
"I'm sure you've worked it out by now—" He gestured with his meaty hairy arm toward the other pirates in the room, and I felt my gut churn as he continued. "That we're a pirate crew, not merchants.
"I nodded and spoke, forcing myself to stay relaxed. "Why reveal it? Why not kill me or sell me?"
Kruff boomed out his weird laugh before sitting up in his chair, relaxing one arm on his leg. "Cause ya got the eye of a freak—" He pointed to his right eye as he said that. I wasn't sure whether to feel mocked or not, but I focused on what he was saying.
"You said you spent two years on that island, right?"
I nodded silently, and he grinned wider. "I take it you were originally someone who didn't know what a hard life was like before being on that island?"
I thought about his words for a moment before nodding. He was right. Outside of a simple job that didn't require overtime and cosplaying as a hobby, I had no worries.
Kruff barked out with laughter again before leaning back in his chair.
"I see, I see..."I frowned at that, but before I could give it much thought a dagger with its handle aimed at my chest entered my vision. I caught it, staring at it with confusion.
"I'll give ya a chance." The sudden change in the man's demeanor sent a bead of sweat down my neck.
"You know who we are, so it's either live or die." He raised his hand and a pirate walked out, pulling on a chain that had a kid at the other end. The kid looked around fifteen, gaunt like he hadn't eaten in days.
"Either one of you will live tonight, or both of you will be a meal for the seas." The kid glared at me, and I recoiled at the sheer hatred in his eyes. Kruff laughed before lowering his meaty hand.
"Kill each other. Now." With that, the pirate let go of the chain, and the kid shot toward me.
