Chapter 117: Gone
{Hello?}
"Am I speaking with Monica?"
{Ahem…yes, who is this, please?}
"Kelan."
{Kelan?!} A surprised voice came through the other side of Kelan's phone.
"Yes, how are you doing, Monica?"
{I'm fine. Oh my goodness, I'm so happy to hear from you. I saw your sis—no, your wife, Jaden, some time ago and she said you weren't around.}
"Yeah, I just came back recently. How is Jacob, by the way? That's one of the reasons I called. I couldn't get in touch with him. A whole lot has happened, and everyone's had their own fair share of life."
{Yes, that's true. But… Jacob…} Monica's voice trailed off. For a few seconds, she didn't say anything.
"Monica, are you there? Did something happen?"
{Ahh, this is hard to say, but Jacob is not here with me. He broke up with me a few months ago and disappeared. I haven't seen him since then. To be honest, I've been devastated ever since.}
Hearing what Monica said, Kelan was shocked. He couldn't believe Monica and Jacob actually broke up. Something didn't seem right.
"Ah, this… is really sad to hear. But hear me out, Monica. I feel like you're hiding something from me. You and Jacob have been through a lot—passed through many hurdles and overcame countless challenges. Jacob really likes you. I don't believe he would ever just do something like this," Kelan said, shaking his head in disbelief.
{Sigh, the truth is… Jacob and I didn't have any issues. A few months ago, he woke me up at midnight and told me he wanted to go on a long journey to get stronger. Ever since he lost his parents during the war, Jacob hasn't been the same. I tried to convince him otherwise, but instead, he told me that it was better I forgot about him and moved on with my life since he didn't know how long he would be gone.}
Monica suddenly started crying over the phone.
"..."
{Sniff~}
"You know what, Monica? Stop crying. Where are you living now? Send your address to me if you don't mind. Let's talk. I'll text you with my own number immediately after I hang up."
{O-Okay.}
Monica then hung up the call. Dropping Jaden's phone, Kelan let out a long sigh, his hand pressing against the table in front of the mirror in his room. He turned his head and saw Tina still sleeping. She hadn't heard a single detail of the conversation.
'I wonder how Tina would react if I told her about Jacob… But this is really crazy.' Kelan thought, different situations and possibilities flashing through his mind.
Suddenly, he felt a tingling sensation in his head.
{Hey, dickhead.}
'I'm not in the mood for that.'
{Just hear me out, at least. I know you're worried about your friend, but think about it. It sucks watching your family die right before your eyes because you were too weak. Isn't his ability enhanced strength? I remember him getting sucker punched by a lower-tier Odi.}
'He wasn't the only one whose parents were killed during the war. Didn't Linda also lose her family?'
{Easier said than done. I remember you crashing out and even saving your father—despite cucking him. I mean—life is unfair, Kelan. All his loved ones are gone. You, his best friend, also didn't reach out to him when he needed you the most.}
'What the fuck are you even saying? You stole my fucking body. But… you have a point. He must've thought I abandoned him. Still, that doesn't justify breaking up with Monica and saying all that hurtful shit. Only a weak man does that.' Kelan clenched his fists.
{Yeah, I would've advised you to take care of Monica… fufu~ but I'm not really a fan of ripped muscular girls.}
'Hehe, I heard she's ten over ten now. Don't give me weird ideas. I only reached out to ask about Jacob.'
{Stupid lucky son of a dick. No wonder you asked for her address. You're a way bigger pervert than me.}
"..."
{(•‿•)}
The next moment, Kelan copied Monica's number from Jaden's phone and texted her. Within minutes, Kelan got a reply and opened it to see the address.
"What the hell? She's living in the slums?"
{Maybe your standard's just too high that you think that place is a slum. Remember, Jacob and his girlfriend made just enough to live fine. That's probably what they could afford.}
'Mystro, what's with defending Jacob and Monica today? Anyway… let's head there.'
{Kelan the girlfriend-saver. Always rescuing all the beauties in distress. I remember saying you wouldn't fuck her for free when she was ripped as hell.}
Kelan ignored Mystro's taunting and headed into the bathroom for a bath. Once done, he put on one of his newly purchased outfits and sprayed on some cologne.
{Spraying cologne just to see someone else's girlfriend.}
He stepped out of his room and walked into the living room, where all his women were seated, watching a show on the one-hundred-and-twenty-inch TV.
Immediately they saw him, they all gave him curious looks.
"Where are you going?" Linda asked, standing up. But Kelan gently held her wrist and pulled her aside, away from the others.
"Where are you going, all dressed up?" Linda asked again, her suspicion growing.
"Shhh… don't let the others know. Just tell them I went to grab something nearby. Also, I need you to lend me your car. I can't take mine to where I'm going," Kelan whispered in her ear.
"Ugh… fine. Just be careful. Don't bring another woman into this house—we're already enough. I can't deal with more. And you don't need to ask before using my car. If it breaks, I mean—you'll get me another one," Linda shrugged.
Hearing that, Kelan leaned in, pecked her cheek, and whispered in her ear, "I love you," while rubbing her stomach slightly.
Watching him crab-walk to pick up her car key, Linda shook her head. "I wonder who he's off to see. He never gets tired of women," she muttered, an idea forming in her mind… but she quickly dismissed it, considering the potential repercussions.
