My Lost Omega [BL]

Chapter 4: River Jones

Axel's visit to the coffee shop hit Elias like lightning. He could barely even recall what had happened. It was only thanks to all the hours he had spent working in customer service that he got through the conversation somehow, with his mind paralyzed.

Of course, he knew that they would run into each other, sooner or later. He INTENDED for it to happen. Otherwise, why would he open his shop right on the other side of the street from the main office of the Chandlers' company?

It was different to imagine it in his mind though, and when he actually stood face to face with that wretched Alpha. All of his emotions, buried deep in his heart, broke through to the surface once again…

He hasn't changed at all. Although a few years older, Axel was still the same cheerful, cute, a bit clumsy and awkward ball of sunshine he had been that fateful summer.

And probably still as cold and cruel underneath.

Seeing him bumbling and scrambling for words… Elias' insides twisted painfully, tying into countless knots. Oh how he wished to just slap or punch the man, or better yet, kick him in the balls… Ollie was already born, so there was no need for Axel's sperm anymore!

And what was even worse, was that while the Alpha was so unchanged… Elias was a completely different person. Not just outside - his straight black hair, black contacts, clothes, eyeliner, piercing, all of it was just a disguise, to avoid getting recognized. But what changed the most was his personality…

And that was irreversible.

Elias Hale, or River Jones, as he was currently known, had lost all of his innocence and faith in people the moment when his baby's Alpha father's family threatened him with his mother and sister, because he dared to come ask for any financial aid. Not only was he discarded like a used tissue after only one night together, but then also forced to abandon his child and disappear…

How was he supposed to go through it all and not turn cold, twisted and jaded? Maybe some people could, but Elias was not that strong.

Regardless, when Axel stopped by the shop once again, on his way back from work, Elias was already mentally prepared.

"Hello! If it isn't my new regular customer!" he smiled widely until his mouth started to hurt, looking at Axel from the cups he was wiping.

…Or was it weird to recognize the man he supposedly only had seen once before? A thought passed through Elias' head.

Luckily, even if it was for others, apparently not for Axel, who instantly returned the smile. "Hello! I came to buy a few more of those poppy seed tarts!"

"Ah… I'm sorry, but I'm afraid you're too late! They're all sold out!" He responded, exhaling softly.

"Oh no." Axel's smile instantly turned into a pout, making the man look like an abandoned puppy. "I was really hoping I could bring some home for my son…"

Elias' fingers tensed up, gripping the cloth and the cup he was wiping so hard, his knuckles turned white. His son. His son. His…

He clenched his jaws, making his teeth grit. The mere mention of the boy, coming from that disgusting Alpha, made his chest tighten, to the point he momentarily couldn't breathe. "You have a son?" he muttered, focusing all of his efforts on trying to sound as natural as possible.

"Yeah! He's five now!" As expected, Axel was too dense and dumb to pick up on the Omega's weird behavior. "The tart tastes like a poppy seed cake that's popular in Lake District, where his Omega parent is from, so I thought it'd be nice for him to try it!"

Clang!

Elias put down the cup with a bit too much force. It was hard to control himself though, when he was literally screaming inside! Truly, he wanted to strangle that wretched Alpha! He even dared to mention the Omega parent? How shameless! Elias had to put the cup down as soon as possible, so as not to take his anger on it. It was just a cup, but he barely scraped by enough money working day and night to open his shop, so he really didn't need any extra expenses!

"A-ah, sorry! I didn't mean it any bad way!" Axel completely misunderstood. "The tart was unique in its own way, and very good! It just reminded me of that cake, not much, just a bit! But I mean it as a compliment!"

Thanks to taking a slow, deep breath, the usual polite 'customer service' smile was restored on Elias' face. "Yes, the tart was inspired by the poppy seed cake, although I'm not sure if the version you're talking about, as I've never been to the Lake District."

"A-ah, is that so? It's a really nice place, you should visit sometime if you get the opportunity!" As the smile returned to the 'Beta's' face, Axel also relaxed, smiling at the man. "Well, either way, the tart was delicious!"

"I'm glad you liked it." Elias' eyes turned into crescents, as he faked a deeply pleased smile. "We will bake a fresh batch tomorrow, so you will be able to get some then. If you stop before it's sold out again, of course!"

"Yes, I'll try my best! And, since I'm already here…" Axel briefly glanced outside, to check the street… Just as he did though, he saw his car pulling over. "…I guess not then," he sighed. "I need to go now, to pick up my son. It's my son's first day in the kindergarten, so I don't want to keep him waiting!"

"Of course. Have a good day!" Elias' eyes followed Axel out, a smile plastered all over his face. Inside, however, his mind was all jumbled up.

So their son went to kindergarten now. And it seemed that Axel still had a habit of rambling about personal stuff to people who were practically strangers. Not that Elias complained - thanks to that, at least there were chances he could hear a thing or two about his son. Too bad Axel didn't say how the boy was called…

Because Elias still didn't know. The Chandlers didn't see it fit to tell him how they would name his son when they snatched the baby from him.

It was only when the car outside moved on that Elias snapped out of his thoughts. "…Crap," he swore softly under his nose. He should have left and followed the car, then perhaps he would finally get to see the boy…

But there was no way he would catch up now. Before he left the shop and got on his motorcycle, the car would be out of sight…

Well, there was no rush. Now that that wretched Alpha worked opposite him, there'd be plenty of opportunities.
