Chapter 59: Chapter 57: Heading to the Land of Iron
After listening to Haru's reasoning, Hiruzen Sarutobi decided to accept his recommendation.
After all, this meeting was of great importance and could very well determine the future relationship between the Hidden Leaf Village and Kumogakure.
As far back as the Second Hokage's reign, there had been intentions to sign a mutual alliance treaty between the two villages.
However, due to a coup in Kumogakure, they were ambushed, and the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, lost his life in that battle.
All of this felt like it had happened just yesterday, still vivid in Hiruzen's memory.
Therefore, the role of a sensory-type ninja was crucial.
After Ibiki summoned Fū Yamanaka, Hiruzen directly appointed him to accompany him to the Land of Iron.
Although the appointment came suddenly, since it was a direct order from the Third Hokage, Fū had no right to refuse.
Of course, while preparing for the trip, Fū secretly relayed this information to Danzo.
"That old fool Hiruzen…"
Danzo gritted his teeth, unable to suppress a sharp intake of breath. Naturally, he had no idea that Fū had been recommended to Hiruzen by Haru.
Moreover, Hiruzen had previously told him that he hoped Danzo would voluntarily step down from his position as a Hokage advisor and no longer attend high-level meetings in the village.
"Is he now targeting the Root organization I built with my own hands?"
Danzo narrowed his eyes, his mind racing as he tried to decipher Hiruzen's plan.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, Hiruzen was trying to take Fū away from him, just as he had done with Tenzo.
By the time Hiruzen returned, he might even disband Root entirely and absorb all its forces into his Anbu.
After all, Fū Yamanaka and Torune Aburame were his right-hand men, the backbone of Root.
There was no denying that Hiruzen's decision left Danzo extremely dissatisfied.
"Fū."
"Lord Danzo."
Fū knelt on one knee in front of Danzo, awaiting his orders.
Although Root was ostensibly established to support the Hokage, in reality, all its members were loyal only to Danzo.
In their hearts, Danzo's orders carried far more weight than those of the Third Hokage.
"I had originally planned to force the Hyuga clan to hand over Hizashi, exposing Hiruzen's weakness and incompetence, and then let the situation escalate to force him to step down as Hokage."
"After that, I would deal with the Uchiha clan and declare war on Kumogakure."
"But now things have developed to this point. Fū, I need you to help me with something."
Meanwhile, Haru had also made his final preparations and was ready to depart at any moment to accompany Hiruzen to the Land of Iron for the meeting with the Raikage.
'If I remember correctly, the Third Raikage died during the Third Great Ninja War. He single-handedly fought against tens of thousands of ninjas to cover his subordinates' retreat, battling for several days before finally succumbing to exhaustion.'
'In other words, in this timeline, Kumogakure should be under the rule of the Fourth Raikage.'
Haru sat cross-legged on the tatami, trying to recall details from the manga and piecing together the timeline of Kumogakure.
Assuming there were no deviations in the timeline, the current Raikage should be the Fourth, A.
Following his father's death, A had decided to inherit his will and ordered his brother, Killer B, to enter Kumo's training grounds to master the Tailed Beast Ball.
'A also ordered Killer B not to leave the village under any circumstances. Even if enemies invaded, they were to be dealt with from a distance using the Tailed Beast Ball.'
In other words, there was no way A would bring Killer B to this Kage Summit.
'I wonder what kind of reward I'll get from this check-in.'
Haru took a deep breath, feeling a sense of anticipation for the check-in reward.
Although he hadn't checked in many times, there seemed to be a pattern to the rewards.
For example, checking in at the ninja academy had granted him mastery over the five basic chakra natures, while checking in at Ichiraku Ramen had improved his cooking skills.
Checking in at the Hokage's office had given him the First Hokage's kekkei genkai, and checking in at the Hyuga clan's compound had unlocked the Byakugan.
"This time, maybe it'll be related to the Land of Iron? Or perhaps the Raikage?"
Either way, Haru was fine with it.
Time passed, and before he knew it, the day of departure had arrived.
Haru followed Hiruzen and Fū Yamanaka to the village gates, with all the luggage being carried by Fū.
After all, Hiruzen was getting on in years, and Haru was still "growing."
"Growing…"
Fū's face darkened slightly, finding Haru's excuse a bit ridiculous.
During wartime, someone of Haru's age would already be taking on major responsibilities in the main forces.
However, since the luggage wasn't much just some spare clothes and food for the journey Fū didn't say anything.
"Alright, let's set off," Hiruzen said amicably, taking the lead.
"I didn't expect we'd be walking the whole way…" Haru couldn't help but mutter. Thinking about it, during the events of Shippuden, whether it was Naruto and the others supporting Sunagakure, chasing after Sasuke, or even the Five Kage Summit, everyone seemed to travel on foot.
Especially during the mission to support Sunagakure when Gaara was attacked by the Akatsuki and Kankuro was on the brink of death, Temari literally ran with Naruto and the others for three days and three nights.
It was hard to tell whether to curse the world of Naruto for being too small or to admire everyone's confidence in their physical stamina.
"If this were the country I came from before transmigrating, forget about supporting a neighboring country against some organization three days wouldn't even be enough to leave the province."
Haru sighed inwardly to himself.
But it was just a though. Enjoying the scenery along the way wasn't so bad.
"Haru."
Suddenly, Hiruzen spoke up, calling Haru's name.
"Hmm?"
"You must have wondered why I didn't bring more people."
"Not really," Haru replied without hesitation. He hadn't had time to think about it, it wasn't important.
"Ahem." Hiruzen cleared his throat, masking his awkwardness, and then explained.
"The Land of Iron is a very special country. Long ago, ninjas made a pact not to attack this nation."
"Since the First Great Ninja War, the Land of Iron has avoided all conflicts."
"In fact, they don't have a ninja village or ninjas. Instead, they are protected by a group of samurai."
"They are a neutral nation with a unique culture, authority, and combat style."
Hiruzen's explanation was meant to convey to Haru that no ninja was allowed to take action there.
"That's also why the Raikage agreed to hold the meeting in the Land of Iron," Hiruzen said solemnly.
"Got it," Haru responded perfunctorily, his gaze drifting back toward the village.
Right now, there was only one thing on his mind.
By sunset, Danzo would never see another day.
