My Slave Goddess

Chapter 12: The Goddess Impostor

We had walked for three days straight ever since the dragon incident.

No rest. No food. No peace.

Just Ashley talking about how rich she was.

"Stop complaining that you're hungry," she snapped, skipping like a spoiled noble brat. "We're going to my church. I've received millions of gold coins over the centuries. You'll eat until you pass out!"

I grumbled. "We'll see if those coins even exist."

She twirled dramatically. "Silly human. I am Ashley, the high and mighty goddess. You will see. The kingdom shall bow!"

We crested the hill.

There it was the kingdom.

Massive stone walls surrounded it like a fortress. Flags of old nobility fluttered weakly in the wind. Beyond the walls, towers pierced the sky. I could see the spires of the cathedral and the glint of the palace dome.

"I'm so tired," I said, dragging my feet. "Let me rest for just five minutes before your grand entrance."

"No!" Ashley shouted. "I want the trumpets, the praise, the statues, the offerings"

"I want food," I muttered.

At the gates, two guards in dented armor stepped forward.

"Halt. Identify yourselves."

Ashley puffed out her chest.

"I am Ashley, the goddess of light and judgment. And this is Alex, my divine vessel."

The guards exchanged glances.

That's when I noticed the cages behind them filled with prisoners dressed like heroes and goddesses. Oversized swords, fake halos, glowing paint. It looked like a parody of our journey.

Oh no.

The moment I turned, one guard bashed my head with the blunt end of his spear.

"You're under arrest for impersonating divine figures!"

Before I could move, they tackled me and started chaining my arms.

Ashley screamed. "Unhand me! I'm the real goddess! Do you know who I am?!"

The guards didn't care.

"Take them to the church court," one barked. "Let the priest sort it out."

We were dragged through the city streets. It wasn't the welcome Ashley expected. No cheering. No gold. Just stares and a few tomatoes tossed at her face.

At the church, they shoved us before a priest. He looked bored.

"You're another one claiming to be the goddess, huh?" he said. "This week's been busy."

Ashley glowed slightly, trying to impress him. "Look at me. Feel the power. I am divine!"

The priest sighed.

"No coin, no proof. Standard penalty: five days until public execution. Unless you can produce 500 gold coins."

He turned his back.

And that's when I snapped.

I burst out laughing loud, uncontrollable laughter.

Ashley glared. "What are you doing?"

The guards looked confused.

Then I stopped.

And I moved.

Faster than they could react, I spun and headbutted the nearest guard in the face. He dropped like a sack of potatoes.

The second guard raised his spear. I grabbed it mid-air, yanked him forward, and drove my knee into his stomach.

He folded.

The chains shattered. I turned to Ashley and ripped hers apart with brute strength.

"Get up. I'm tired of this crap."

Her eyes widened. "You You're serious."

"Let's go," I said coldly. "No more churches. No more jokes. We're going to the Palace."

Alarms rang through the cathedral halls.

Priests shouted. Guards tried to regroup.

I picked up a broken spear and tossed it at the church door boom! locking it shut.

People screamed. But I didn't care.

I grabbed Ashley by the wrist and we marched out into the streets.

"What are you doing?!" she whispered.

"Taking back control," I said. "You wanted a kingdom? Let's go take it."

We stormed through the market, past beggars and merchants and whispering crowds.

The guards at the inner gate saw us coming blood on my knuckles, Ashley glowing like a fallen star.

They hesitated.

And I said just one thing:

"Tell your king. The real goddess has arrived."
