Chapter 299- Back In The Tower (Part 23)
The words resonated inside Deka's head like a loud ringing bell. They were cold, harsh, and even disdainful. Yet the feeling they brought into Deka's heart was a strong realization of what she was doing at that moment.
She wasn't thinking of what she was supposed to do to help her group, nor did she think of a way to escape with them. For a moment there, she had given up on survival and was about to let the world fall on her head.
'What was I doing…' She held her face as she looked up again, staring at her friends. Even as she was still standing there, they were fighting with every breath in their lungs and every drop of blood coursing through their veins.
She had given them that hope not that long ago, to fight, to not give up. She was the one who gave them hope, and yet ironically, she was the first to crumble under the cruel reality of things. How could that be?
'No wonder I'm not a leader… I was never good for it.' She mused as she picked up her sword and wiped the blood off her injured arm. "I'm not good enough… How dare I not try to be better?"
Staring into the distance, she could see the large flashes of lights and explosions of ice as Arthur was running an entire annihilation operation on the monsters. His silhouette appeared almost divine in the way he moved, shaping and shifting the environment around him as he wished.
The sight was truly mesmerizing and something she would want to watch for a long time. But she shook those thoughts and focused on the battle. There was no time to daze and watch.
"ROAR!!!"
A Yeti noticed Deka's lonesome silhouette and decided to attack her. So, the woman took a fighting stance.
"Come at me… Ugly bastard." She muttered in a cold tone.
"ROAR!!!"
Then, the woman resumed the battle with a loud yell. All the negative thoughts were pushed to the back of her mind. 'I need to give it everything I have!! For my life and for theirs!!'

The battle got more and more brutal with each passing second. Each side was aiming to kill the other in the most vicious way possible. The mercenaries found themselves at a clear and horrifying disadvantage due to the overwhelming number of enemies.
The Yetis were popping out of nowhere, descending on them from the sky like birds. Wherever they looked, it was danger and death. However, what the group quickly realized and what shocked them greatly was that they never found themselves facing more than one Yeti at a time between two people.
They thought with their big numbers, they would be completely destroyed in a matter of seconds. After all, all it took was two Yetis and they would be completely at the mercy of these hideous creatures.
However, the answer to that question soon came to them.
*BOOOOOOM*
"ROAR!!!"
Blud splurted out of the Yeti's severed arm as it jumped in with a terrified look on its face. Arthur exhaled a small, steamy breath as he glared at the monster. At the same time, he sensed another one attacking him from the back and another leaping at him from the side.
So, with a simple step, he vanished like a ghost, dodging their attacks as the two monsters slammed into one another. Arthur took that opportunity as he ambushed the first one, stabbing its heart.
The other quickly regained composure and slashed down.
*CLING*
Arthur's sword clashed with the sharp claws, stopping them in their tracks before Arthur pushed the monster back and leaped in the air, kicking it right in the jaw. As he was landing, two other monsters took the opportunity to attack him.
'This is getting really annoying really quickly.' Arthur clenched his teeth as he swiped Elemental Oblivion, creating a barrier between him and the two Yetis so he could create some distance.
But, before he could even catch a breather, more Yetis attacked him at the same time. That was when Arthur realized that he wasn't making any progress and the situation was only getting worse and worse as more monsters ganged up on him. It seemed they realized that the biggest threat was Arthur and they had to deal with him before they could deal with the rest of the mercenaries.
That led to a situation that the mercenaries themselves didn't expect. Arthur alone was fighting almost a dozen Yetis at the same time while they only got the few that decided to target them instead. Explore stories on My Virtual Library Empire
'H-He's a monster!! That kid is a monster!!' That was the only thought that ran through their heads. The fact he was dealing with that many Yetis while they struggled with one or two was a horrific realization of how truly powerful Arthur was.
He was effortlessly gliding through the claws of enemies, dealing devastating blows whenever he found an opportunity. He was as effective as one could possibly get, with no excessive movement or mistakes. His entire body worked like a perfect machine, doing everything with one single goal in mind… Kill.
For several minutes, Arthur fought and killed more and more Yetis. His stats were increasing and he was leveling up very rapidly as the monsters rained down on him from every place. His power was increasing and the task was also getting harder and harder.
[Ding!]
[Ding!]
[Ding!]
[Ding!]
All Arthur could hear were the noises of notifications popping in his head and the sound of monsters howling in pain as his sword drew out their blood. At the same time, their claws didn't completely avoid Arthur as he found himself with several lacerations across his body.
His continuous leveling up did erase some of them, but they would come back far deeper than before. Arthur was getting exhausted faster than his body could get stronger which alarmed him greatly.
"Hah… Hah… Hah…" Arthur breathed heavily as he looked all around him. He was surrounded by monsters, all staring at him with deep bloodlust and fear. They had stopped their relentless attacks for a moment, trying to assess the situation and if they could truly defeat this terrifying human they were facing.
They could see that he was injured and his body was getting exhausted. Their numbers were still high so they could overpower him. That realization made their drive to attack even stronger.
The sight would've made anyone feel their hopes crushed. After all, didn't seem like it was nearing its end. However, Arthur simply did one thing… He smiled.
"Hahaha… Ptuh…" He spat saliva mixed with blood and grinned. "Exactly, that look. Have some hope that you can defeat me so that the fight doesn't become boring. That way, I can enjoy seeing that fear in your eyes when I cut your head off. Makes the win way sweeter."
His words lacked any fear or hesitation as they were full of confidence. It didn't seem like Arthur was the one losing as if he had everything under control. Those words, while the Yetis couldn't understand, still conveyed the message to them.
Their target… Wasn't going to fall easily.
