Chapter 364- God’s Gate (Part 2)

After leaving the area, Arthur walked inside the shelter only to find it completely in chaos. All the people living there were walking around, clearly gathering their belongings as quickly as possible.

Looks of distress and agony were clear on their faces, they almost looked like soulless husks walking around simply to fulfill an order rather than out of pure will. Arthur knew immediately that they were aware of what Yonathan was intending to do and they were already having what could only be called as a 'funeral'.

'I love the atmosphere here.' Arthur exhaled tiredly before he walked deeper into the place. Immediately, Arthur caught everyone's attention, making them stop their mayhem and simply face him.

The boy stopped and looked around him, feeling the weight of their non-existent eyes. They weren't looking at him, but he still felt quite uncomfortable being surrounded by these people who were clearly displeased.

'Are they going to take revenge on me or something?' He gulped down a mouthful of saliva. "Can I help you?"

His question echoed across the room for a few seconds before it vanished into the silence. Nobody replied to him and nobody seemed to react to his question either.

'This language barrier is really annoying. Why did Yonathan teach them such a language? This is quite odd.' He mused as he looked ahead and walked to the intended person he wanted to see.

Amongst the masses was the closest man to Yonathan, the one who always stood by his side and helped him in case he needed any help. From what Arthur could see, the man was the second in command and had a very heavy weight in the entire group.

'If I can somehow get on the good side of this guy, I can get the group to cooperate without a hitch.'

Since Arthur had been tasked with carrying these people out of this hell, he had to first gain their trust and make them listen to him. To do that, he had to befriend the highest authority amongst these people, the person they trusted the most who would change their perspective of Arthur rather quickly.

"Ehem, hey there." Reaching the man who was busy gathering clothes, he coughed awkwardly and called for him. That made the man turn around and face Arthur.

"... Can we talk for a moment?"

"..."

Silence.

'Shit, I forgot that he can't even understand me. Uh, what the hell am I supposed to do then? This language barrier is going to be a pro-'

"Understood." The man replied, taking Arthur by surprise.

"Wait, you can understand me?!"

"Yes."

"..."

'Dammit, he really tricked me.' Arthur sucked in a deep breath before he looked up at the man again. "Ok, good. What I wanted to say is that… Since Yonathan is handing this task to me, I hope we can all be on good terms so that we can survive. This trip is going to be very hard and probably extremely dangerous so if you can make your people understand my intentions…"

"Father had already declared orders that we must follow you and listen to you no matter what. They won't defy Father so you do not need to worry, sir Arthur." The man replied.

'Father? I guess this is really his son after all. Now that I look at him, there are some similarities for sure.'

The man had his father's callus and cold look, and his tall and muscular build, making him appear quite intimidating and rough.

"Understood. So, when will they be ready?"

"In a few minutes." The man said. "Then, we will leave."

"Hmm, ok, I will wait for you outside then."

After saying that, Arthur turned around and left the place quickly as if he wanted to avoid staying there for another second. It was probably the most uncomfortable room he had ever been in his life and he had been in plenty of those throughout his life.

Outside, Arthur exhaled a small breath before he looked up at the sky. He felt exhausted already from thinking about what could happen next, he was walking basically into the unknown while followed by hundreds and hundreds of people who relied on him to guide them out of the Void.

'So this is what Isla felt like… It's really stressful and… crushing. I feel like I'm not allowed to make any mistakes whatsoever. Well, this is my time to learn how to be a leader in case I ever need that. And to think I was intending to just play this game solo… Now I'm thinking about being a leader. It's definitely not my cup of tea but I have to learn this either way.'

"I wonder if Arry will be proud of me if I can somehow pull this off…" Arthur muttered under his breath as he closed his eyes, trying to imagine Isla's reaction to seeing him again. Was it going to be happy? Sad? Angry? Perhaps a mix of all of that?

The more he tried to imagine it the harder it was, after all, this was a situation he had never experienced before so her reaction was going to be surprising no matter what it was.

"Isla…"

***

Isla's eyes opened wide as she heaved up and down, her face as cold as ever except now, it had a layer of distress on it. She blinked a few times.

"Isla, are you ok?" Danny asked when he noticed her weird expression.

"Huh?" The girl stared at him confusedly for a moment before she nodded faintly. "Yeah… I'm… I'm fine, I was just thinking for a moment."

Danny frowned visibly before he went silent and handed her a cup of water. 'This has been the fifth time she lost focus in the past hour or so…'

Calling Isla's behavior weird was an understatement, the girl was far from her usual self and it was clear as day even for outsiders. She was dazing a lot, losing focus, used harsh replies to respond to most people and had a generally bad mood.

Danny knew exactly why she was acting that way and it had been two days and a half since that incident. During which, Arthur remained locked in his room, stuck in the game with no sign of leaving.

They still couldn't access him as the academy refused to do anything until the four-day mark passed. All their attempts to try and push them to open the door were met with adamant refusal. It was as if they deliberately wanted Arthur to remain stuck even when they explained the situation.

The group was left completely disheartened and broken. They didn't know what to do and the idea of waiting felt really daunting on them. They were worried sick about Arthur and his whereabouts.

"I don't want to even eat…" Herculia muttered as he put the spoon down. "I have no appetite."

"Me neither…"

The group sat around the table in a solemn atmosphere. Nobody seemed like they wanted to do anything except sit in gloomy silence. The energy was at an all-time low and it was clear as day.

"Hey there, guys!"
