Chapter 695: Shifting atmosphere

Before shooting, he glanced at the post.

Upon glancing, he became aware of the opposing keeper's position and the spot where he needed to shoot. The gap was narrow and tight. The opposing keeper blocked most of the path, and his positioning was excellent.

He could tell it'd be a difficult shot to execute.

Yet still, it didn't make his heart palpitate. Neither did it make him hesitate.

The world around him buzzed with anticipation. However, it sounded distant to him. With his focus peaked, he had entered an untraversable domain that only he could traverse.

Even the flow of time seemed to have slowed down.

His eyes glinted with an unnatural light as he retracted his gaze from the post. He planted one foot firmly on the ground while raising the other to shoot.

His muscles coiled like a spring, the force gathering in his muscle fibers ready to explode. Putting his entire body weight behind the shot, he unleashed destruction.

Bam!

The ball rippled before it sailed to the post. Cutting through the air, it traveled making an arc over the post.

While Alvarez froze on his spot, the opposing keeper desperately attempted to save the ball. With his hand stretched, he leaped towards the ball.

Yet despite his utmost effort, the ball glided past his fingers, leaving a lingering sensation. Perhaps, it was the aura he felt from the ball. He couldn't be sure of it. But he could tell that the ball had evaded his reach.

The realization of being unable to save the ball left him dejected.

Thud!

The moment the ball crossed the line, a deafening silence fell upon the stadium like a calm before the storm. Then as the net rippled with contact, a thundering roar of cheer erupted, enveloping the entire stadium in its fervor.

The roar of the stadium was deafening, an ocean of cheers crashing in waves across the field.

While the net kept rattling, Alvarez ran to the sidelines, his ecstatic teammates chasing after him. Yet he avoided them like a germophobic avoiding human contact. He slipped past them, his expression filled with excitement.

Hiro could tell he was headed this way.

The others around him were all excited and cheering in jubilation. Finally, the dreadlock had broken and they had gained the upper hand. Away from their seats, they were cheering close to the sideline.

Hiro, however, didn't join them. Instead, he remained seated. Though he was excited about the goal, he couldn't bring himself to express himself like others.

With a rather nonchalant demeanor, he sat.

The goal had been nothing but brilliant. Especially, the run Alvarez made before striking. Hiro had been watching him intently. Before he even set into motion, he had been watching him.

Thus the movement enthralled him even more.

Griezmann's pass was pinpoint too. If it weren't for his sharp vision and excellent passing, this attack wouldn't have amounted to anything. So, he was equally deserving of the credit.

But the one who scores takes the limelight.

In football, the role of each player is equally important. However, the one who gets the most recognition is the one who scores. It is one of the reasons why defenders or keepers are unable to win the Golden Ball.

Finally, Alvarez appeared before him. The others who were already standing swarmed him as they began to celebrate.

Alvarez, however, broke free from them and stood before him.

Lifting the corner of his lips, he revealed a smile.

Hiro stared dazedly at him. The contented expression of Alvarez left him dumbfounded. He couldn't understand what he was up to. Was he expecting a hug from him?

"I kept my word," he declared with a smile.

The cacophony of cheers buzzing around him made it difficult to hear him. But he understood clearly what he meant. However, he couldn't help but feel dumbfounded.

What did he mean? He couldn't tell.

Then he recalled their earlier conversation, "Have some faith in us". Upon remembering their conversation, Hiro couldn't help but smile.

However, by the time, he realized what he meant, he had already left.

He was swarmed by the players. Hugging and cheering, they were celebrating the goal.

"So, that's what he meant," Hiro smirked. "Well, I guess I'll have to execute my part too now. I can't disappoint them now, can I?"

Hiro's eyes flared with determination as he returned his focus to the match.

After the celebration ended, the match resumed.

Beep!

Immediately after the match resumed, the atmosphere of the stadium shifted. The cheers of the opposing fans grew even more intense.

"Woah! It seems like this goal has awakened the Leipzig fans."

Hearing the growing cheers, Hiro couldn't help but glance at the stands. Sure enough, the entire stadium felt different now. He could palpably feel the rising pressure. Even the air around the stadium felt denser than it was before.

Well, it was their home ground to begin with.

It being their turf, the Atletico fans were greatly outnumbered. Even if they wished to fight back, they couldn't. Their voices even united were getting devoured by the chants of the opposing fans.

The growing pressure although invisible began to show its effect as Atletico players began to lose their composure.

After about five minutes, Benjamin entered the field.

Xavi Simmons changed his position at the same time. He had been operating as a winger until recently. But after Benjamin joined their ranks, their entire formation changed.

Hiro who had been paying attention to the details was one of the first to notice the difference. He noticed the change almost immediately.

Upon noticing the change, he turned to look at Diego.

The moment he turned to look at Diego, he found him with a rather stern expression. You could tell that he was serious just from his look.

The previous joy from scoring was nowhere to be seen.

Just then, he dropped back to the bench. He had been observing the match while standing beside the sidelines.

"Hiro, you're up," Diego said flatly, his eyes fixed on the pitch.
