Chapter 354: Chapter 354: Incognito Tour (5)
"All right, that settles another matter."
Walking away from the experimental base, Link happily shook off his hands. He then went to the Executive Committee office, dropping off the two Orochimaru corpses and the computer that supposedly contained the bio-computer data.
Senju Tobirama accepted the scroll and reminded him,
"That Orochimaru from the Second World was originally on loan from that village."
"I know, I didn't touch him," Link replied, fully aware.
A while ago, he'd asked if he could kill Orochimaru. For various reasons, it dragged on until now, mainly because the devious little Senju brat in front of him had been reluctant to discard such a hardworking tool. Now that Link had come here, seeing how Tobirama did not explicitly say "Don't take out Orochimaru," Link naturally wasted no time taking action first and reporting later.
In Link's mind: If someone has offended him, they must die.
Reflecting on it, he indeed might be petty. But soon enough, he set that thought aside: no point thinking too hard on someone who would never appear again.
"You're leaving already?"
Tobirama asked casually.
"Yes, I'm done." Link answered with a smile, then left.
Inside the Executive Committee office, Senju Tobirama shook his head.
He had guessed Orochimaru's motive. So he thoroughly exploited him. In the end, each got what they needed. After all, once you've offended Link, the possibility of a decent outcome was small—unless you performed well enough and bent low enough.
Thinking of it that way, Orochimaru had not done too badly.
Even so, from the vantage of Tobirama, all these rogue individuals with great talents—once they stepped out of line—ended with either forced transmigration or being sealed. It was indeed a new era shaped by the strong.
"You look quite cheerful today, hm?"
Nara Shiosui said while closing a document after stamping it.
Due to the Nara Clan's strong intellect, nearly all of them had followed Nara Shikaku over to the Second World for "work," making them the top "supporting clan" in the Shinobi Alliance now.
"It's nothing," Link said, glancing around with a carefree air. Then he nodded. "Tomorrow, once Binwei and Xia are back, let's all go have some barbecue?"
Those two—once his personal "tools"—each had pretty robust bodies, presumably special jounin level. Because they lacked broad experience, even after so long they remained regular chuunin. But they had not been forced back to the Academy, thanks to cramming for the new standard-based ninja tests. At least they hadn't fallen behind.
Shiosui had no habit of prying further. He smiled and replied,
"Sure, tomorrow evening then. I haven't gone back in a while."
"All right, it's settled." Link said brightly.
After stepping out of the office, Link glanced at the sky. It was nearing sunset. Leading Utakata along, they strolled over to the commercial district.
Where once there were rows of simple wooden houses, now renovation had created a prosperous look. With the Shinobi Alliance's presence, ninjas from across the Second World gathered at the Kannabi Bridge outpost, and hence many ordinary merchants had followed suit.
Truly, this place seemed to change every day. Signs and banners spread all around, even a blimp with "GG" soared overhead—technology from the Future (Epilogue) World.
Interactions among the different worlds over time had borne wonderful fruit.
"So, is the world finally at peace?"
Link murmured, uncertain if he asked himself or the friend beside him.
"Mm," Utakata softly affirmed, with a hint of emotion in his gaze. "All thanks to you."
Born amid the Blood Mist era, Utakata never dared dream of personally witnessing peace. Even if it might last only a few decades, it was something precious.
"Never expected it." Link patted his cheek, the corners of his mouth lifting. "Heh—would that make me the man who ended the chaos of war?"
Or rather, a boy.
Utakata held back a laugh but sounded quite earnest:
"Yes, indeed. Without question, you're the man who brought an end to the wars."
"Heh heh~" Link gave a self-satisfied grin. "C'mon, let's go see Tsunade."
Whether or not Uzumaki Naruto and Uchiha Sasuke at age seventeen overcame countless trials and soared with power to quell the realm… Link had already beaten them to the punch at just age twelve, and in a much more thorough manner. Which only proved that, well, his cheat was bigger?
But a cheat is part of one's personal ability, right? This so-called "Deep Blue system," or "Add Points system," also counted as personal talent.
Thus he guided Utakata back to the hospital. Inside, Tsunade was finishing filing documents, a sake bottle in hand. She took a small swig and, upon seeing them, said:
"Let's head out to eat—er…"
"Wait, Tsunade, you're drinking on the job again?" Link said, unable to hold back.
"I'm off duty, off duty!" Tsunade waved it off. "Someone else will cover for me." Taking another sip, she continued, "I know a place with great yakitori. They have a parent-child special—mm, their drinks are good—"
Link felt the vein on his forehead twitch. He held back and only half-jokingly quipped:
"Surely the job's done, right?"
