Chapter 176: The Price
Apparently, there were two famous presenters in Paris who came, a man and a woman. The two of them were going to interview Audrey so that there would be no chaos due to the number of journalists who wanted to ask questions.
They were invited to come forward, standing in front of the other journalists.
"Dr. Audrey," said the female presenter, greeting Audrey gently while the male presenter just nodded lightly.
Audrey pointed her hand forward, inviting them to ask questions.
"Is it true that you have found a cure for cancer that is truly proven?" The female presenter asked immediately after Audrey gave her permission.
"Yes..." Audrey was very calm as she answered the question.
She even took out a small bottle with granules of medicine inside.
They were somewhat transparent, crystal-like, and had a considerable size.
Upon closer inspection, they turned out to be capsules with clear liquid inside.
"At Paris Hospital, there are already fifteen cancer patients who have been declared completely cured after taking this medicine. Their recovery period is only one day, it even works faster than fever medicine," Audrey said.
She then asked Isabel who was standing behind her to hand over the sheets of paper she was holding.
They turned out to be pictures of people who were sick and after recovery.
Audrey showed them one by one.
She didn't need to explain to let people know what she meant.
The two presenters were silent for a long time, showing how surprised they were.
Although the photos could not be used as evidence, they made it clear that Audrey was not talking nonsense. She was serious about her claims.
"Dr. Audrey, when will this drug hit the market?" the male presenter asked.
"As of today, we have started production," Audrey replied.
"For details, you can ask Miss Jane," she added, glancing at Jane sitting beside her.
Her presence since she appeared had intrigued the reporters and presenters.
Although they had gotten the information that she was an investor, she was too young. They wondered what her background was.
"Miss Jane, can you explain?" the female presenter asked her.
The ever-calm Jane answered as soon as she was asked. "The investor for this drug is my and my boyfriend's company, Apex Capital Group. You may not have heard of it, but we are also the lead investors of the recently viral app, TokTak. We are working with various Pharmaceutical companies around the world to mass produce these drugs."
Jane's answer not only surprised the guys, but also David.
The latter froze for a few moments as this was all completely beyond his knowledge.
As for the reporters, they guessed that it was Jane's family company, but it was not. This was her own company with her boyfriend.
Then who was her boyfriend?
The thing is that they had already asked some students about Jane's background so they knew that she was a member of the Rothschild Family.
Of course, for the students, they started staring at David.
They couldn't help but envy his incredible fate.
He started out as just an ordinary guy, now he was the owner of a huge investment company, overseeing a cancer cure and an app that went viral.
"Miss Jane, who is your boyfriend?" Suddenly one of the younger reporters asked even though only the two presenters were supposed to ask.
It was against the rules but curiosity got the better of him.
Of course, the two presenters were also curious, so they acted as if nothing was wrong even though the problem of the question was not only a violation, but also an invasion of privacy.
Unfortunately, they all turned a blind eye to this.
They began to wonder if Jane's boyfriend was a man from a big family in this town?
They had such suspicions because she was studying at the University of Paris.
However, Jane actually didn't seem to mind being asked about it. She even smiled slightly.
"Actually you can just ask anyone in this university," she said in a soft tone, pausing to take a breath before continuing, "since you're asking me, well, my boyfriend is not someone far away, he's Dr. Audrey's younger brother."
"Dr. Audrey's younger brother?" Unfortunately, no one knew who Audrey's younger brother was but this information was quite surprising to them because Audrey although only a woman from an ordinary family, but managed to level up to the top level in a short time.
Who knows how much commission she would have received as the inventor of the cancer cure.
However, her younger brother was still amazing enough to make Jane from the Rothschild Family his girlfriend.
They should have had a relationship long before this cancer cure came about.
"Well, I hope you guys stop discussing things unrelated to this cancer cure." Audrey suddenly spoke up, giving a reprimand to the reporters.
Since they already knew, they were no longer curious even though they didn't know which man was Audrey's younger brother.
After that, the two presenters started asking about various things, such as the price of the cancer drug. Discover the saga at m-vl-em-pyr
Perhaps the price issue was the most important because if it was too expensive, it was also useless.
There would be too many people who couldn't get it.
Even David was curious about that.
Surely Audrey would determine the price. Even if the price of the ingredients to make the medicine was expensive, it should not reach an unaffordable figure. Usually, medicine became expensive because of its monopoly.
David did not know how Audrey would determine the price.
Given that she was a woman with a high social conscience, she shouldn't have taken such a ridiculous profit.
After all, taking a 50 Euro profit was enough to make her very rich. Cancer is not a disease with few sufferers, and it can still appear continuously for people who have not been affected.
Audrey didn't answer immediately after being asked about the price.
She read the document in front of her first.
After a while, she finally answered, "It will depend on who buys it. I might sell it for 1 Euro for poor people, but for rich people, they need to spend a lot of money. Like people who have a fortune of more than one billion euros, they won't get this medicine even with one million euros."
David, "..."
This was an answer he really didn't expect. Everyone else was the same.
They stared at Audrey in disbelief.
It's not like there is no concept like this. In universities for example, some people with weak economies would pay less than those with strong economies.
However, this concept is rarely used in trade, especially a huge trade like this cancer drug which is practically a world-level trade.
Is this unfair?
When thinking about unfair, people feel that it is also fair.
This is a very rare item. If it's too expensive, the poor can't buy it, but if the poor can get it cheaply while the rich have to buy at a high price, even though the rich seem to get an injustice, they can still get it.
Of course, this will probably cause displeasure from many parties.
This is not just about Audrey's will. The ones she angered from her rules were the powerful people.
"Dr. Audrey, are you serious about using this concept?" the female presenter asked in a rather low voice.
"You know, you might be in violation of monopoly laws," added the male presenter.
"This cancer cure requires one key ingredient that cannot be produced without me working personally," Audrey replied.
Her answer was arguably not connected to what she was being asked.
However, it was enough to leave everyone speechless.
"By the way, Dr. Audrey, do you also research other cures, such as a cure for HIV for example that has not been discovered until now?" The female presenter chose to change the question.
And this was also a very interesting question, enough to make some students stare at Audrey seriously, without blinking at all.
In terms of the seriousness of the problem, this is probably bigger than cancer because of the secret that everyone knows.
Unfortunately, Audrey immediately shook her head.
"I have never tried to research anything related to HIV," she said calmly.
This left people disappointed.
"Why? I don't think it's possible that you don't have time to research this." Suddenly a student asked.
She was a woman, looking more disappointed than the others.
It wasn't because Audrey hadn't found a solution, but because she hadn't even tried to find a solution.
Did she look down on people with HIV?
Audrey looked at the student who asked.
Her expression was suddenly serious as she replied, "things are not as easy as you think. I know which one is more important. You can't blame me for this, and don't say it like I really have the time. I'm busy with my life too. Don't assume there are no important things in my life that I need to give up everything for research. Perhaps you're forgetting that I've only just become a lecturer.
It's too early to judge me now."
Not only was her expression serious, Audrey's tone also sounded rather cold, enough for the student who asked to tremble a little.
Perhaps Audrey was angry that her integrity was in doubt.
