My Werewolf System

Chapter 1244: I'm Not The Enemy

"What in the V crap is this!" Kim said in frustration, stomping her feet down on the ground a little heavier as they walked down the streets of Slough. Right by her side was Blackjack; the two of them had been tasked with working with the Howlers, ordered by the settlement.

And it was something that they couldn't reject, as it was an order directly from the king himself.

"Will you calm down already? I know it's a tough journey here. Do you think after how long I spent here I want to come back? And besides, you don't even know these people we're working with," Blackjack replied.

"Ha!" Kim let out a single loud laugh. "Know these people? You know what all Werewolves are like. They're all the same beasts that can't control their urges. Even if there are a few good ones among them, they can't control their nature. It always ends up in disaster. Have you forgotten how many of our kind they killed without a second thought? I haven't forgotten. Just because we moved away, the incidents have lessened, but I remember the countless number of those close to me that I lost to them."

"I haven't forgotten," Blackjack snapped immediately. "You would be a fool to think that I have forgotten, but you should know this is the Howlers, not the Lupus gang. They've had no direct contact with us. The king has already met with their leader, and this is the judgment that has been passed. Do you think your judgment is better than our king's? If you have a problem with it, then complain to him. As a knight of one of the vampire families, you should be acting better than this."

Kim kept her mouth shut, but Blackjack could tell from the sound of her feet that she still wasn't in any mood.

'All werewolves are the same…you can't change their nature,' Kim thought. 'If we don't get rid of them, then more of us will just end up losing our lives.'

Ever since the start of the mission, Kim had a problem working with the others, but how could she go against the King's word? She had to come on this mission, and the werewolves that were sent, they were sure not just to be anybody.

Although Kim was quite confident she could deal with one of them on her own, she feared she might end up being hurt in the process, so what was the best use? When the situation arrived, she knew already she would devise a plan—to turn the Altered hunters against Kai, which had led to the current situation they were in.

"You set me up…" Kai spoke, realizing the situation that had occurred, and all fingers were pointing at him. What could he even say in this situation to defend himself?

Before he knew it, he saw a small dagger aiming right for his eyes. He leaned back just in time and grabbed the Altered hunter's wrist, pulling it away.

"You bastard! You betrayed us!" the hunter shouted. "It's because of you they're dead! How could you? How could you!"

Immediately Kai shoved the person away, pushing them back as he saw another strike coming at him. He ducked under the blade and kicked the person's hand. He kicked it so hard the weapon slipped from the person's hand and flew high into the air.

Right after, Kai kicked them in the chest, sending them back.

"What are you all doing!" Trixie called out. "Why are you attacking an ally of ours? We still haven't gotten to the bottom of this."

"Are you the only one that can't see it?" Kim said. "Look at him, an apprentice taking out two skilled hunters just like that. It's not something an apprentice can do—that is not the strength of an apprentice."

"She's right," a hunter said. "How else could he have beaten Pluto? It's all starting to make sense now. Things weren't right from the beginning. It's because of him!"

Although Trixie understood what the others were saying, she still didn't quite feel that way about Kai. Having fought by his side, he was suspicious, but for him to be the enemy—it didn't make any sense.

Kai was backing up, away from the rest of the hunters. With all of them looking at him, it wasn't good news, and he was unsure still just how strong Kim was if she got involved.

'I can't even say anything really. What am I meant to say? That she's a vampire, and she's trying to trick me? She's just saying these things because I'm a werewolf. I don't think that will go down too well—they'll think I've gone mad.'

Just then, seeing the look of the others and how they had all pulled out their weapons, Trixie turned to Kai.

"I think…it might be best if you just give yourself up for now. We'll get to the bottom of this, but they don't trust you right now…so do you mind if we do something, maybe have you restricted in some way until we work this out?" Trixie said.

'Restricted is not good,' Kai immediately thought. 'If Kim wants me dead, then when I'm restricted she'll find a way to convince the others, or she'll finish me off herself when I'm at my weakest.'

Another arrow came at Kai; he moved as it skimmed past his face and hit the truck.

'The truck we need to deliver is not here, and I can't change this situation around.'

Another arrow shot out, and Kai managed to grab it in midair. Right then, he decided to do one thing. He hurled it back and aimed straight for Kim. It almost hit her until she lifted her arm and stopped it, the arrow going right through.

"Trixie, I am not the enemy…" Those were the last words Kai spoke as he quickly ran up the side of the truck, then leapt off with great strength into the distance, performing a leap that was clearly not humanly possible.

"You're…not the enemy," Trixie repeated as she stared off to where Kai had gone.
