Chapter 14: The Mission
The next day in the cafeteria
Glus stood in front of the group and asked, "Are you excited? Your first mission is coming up."
Then Zoio walked in, beaming with joy at being chosen to lead a team.
"Some of you had hand-to-hand combat training with me yesterday. How did you like it?" she asked with a smile.
Suddenly, the sound of a helicopter approached. Kad, Giel, and Mike were about to board when Glus shouted, "Lasa is coming with you! She convinced me."
Mike was happy, Kad was too, but Giel didn't seem to care.
I noticed that Giel and Lasa hadn't talked much yet — that would probably change soon.
Kad summarized, "Alright, let me sum it up again: The five of us — Kad, Giel, Mike, Lasa, and Zoio — are going to a village in the desert to find a shadow mage who's responsible for four murders."
"What an easy mission, haha," laughed Giel.
"If we see a guy walking around with shadow magic, we'll probably notice, right?" Giel added mockingly.
They arrived, and it was hot — very hot. They all stayed in the same house.
"Zoio is our team leader. How lucky can we get?" Kad asked.
"Yeah, she's really nice," Mike replied.
Suddenly, they heard Giel scream.
Giel shouted, "There he is, the shadow mage!" He summoned 20 to 30 black knights.
Zoio yelled, "Kids, take cover!" She rushed forward and defeated 1, 4, then 7 knights—one after the other—in hand-to-hand combat. She was so strong.
But then five knights, each wielding a sword, charged at her.
And… unfortunately, all of them hit. Five swords stabbed into her, and she spat out blood.
Mike screamed, "NOOO! ZOIO!"
"Pack! Bite! Strike!"
Each wolf could take down at least three knights—and so could Mike.
Then he faced the shadow mage, who fired black hands toward Mike—but Pack threw himself in front.
Bite and Strike came from behind and bit both of the mage's shoulders.
The magic stopped working; he was unprotected, unable to defend himself. That was Mike's chance. He ran forward.
"Wolfstrike!"
He hit the mage in the face.
And again.
And again.
As a finishing move, Mike grabbed him and threw him high into the air. When he fell, he crashed hard into the ground.
Mike said, "For Zoio."
And they called for help. Glus had given him a phone for contact. He was called.
"Glus… you have to come quickly."
Coordinates were sent.
—Call ended—
Glus arrived about an hour later.
"Glus, Zoio… she's dead."
"Glus?"
Glus didn't answer.
He made a call.
"Hello Glus? Any news about my big sister?"
laughter
"Glus?"
A tear ran down Glus's cheek.
"I'm sorry, Kaly. She's dead. Everything else will fall on you and your mother." Then Glus turned away so no one could see he was crying.
He wiped his tears and ordered doctors and Sals to come here.
"Okay kids, well done. You completed the mission in one day."
Mike said, "Yes, but never without Zoio."
"Yeah," said Kad.
Lasa was still in shock.
Giel nodded.
The group was flown back to base.
"Congratulations, you've already completed your assigned mission. And as I heard, you were there when Commander Zoio… took the lead. Take two days off, okay?"
Mike was sad, of course, but he managed to handle it well. I think Kad was very sad. Kad said,
"Could you leave me alone for a moment?"
Giel seemed, as always, cheerful and eager to fight — which he did with Hus.
That meant I was alone in a room with Lasa.
I asked her, "Is everything okay?"
She hadn't spoken since the mission.
And she still didn't.
She just stared into the air.
Then I went to her, stretched out my arms, and hugged her. Suddenly she started crying hard.
"She died because I couldn't heal her!" she screamed through tears.
Lasa She had five swords stuck in her — she was already dead.
replied Mike
If you want, I can go with you to the cafeteria first to get something to eat?
"Yes, please," said Lasa.
Lasa and Mike were the same age, both 14. They had been friends since they were 6 years old.
And so the two free days passed. Mike and Lasa hung out a lot, like they used to.
Lasa was already feeling a little better; she could at least laugh again.
Mike and Lasa were lying in the grass.
Lasa laughed at something.
Mike replied,
"Lasa, you have a very sweet laugh."
Lasa and Mike made eye contact.
They kissed.
System message 1:
"Oh oh, wolf,
Love —
Isn't she cute?"
Love unlocked.

So these were the most important people in his life.
But where were mom and dad?
Well, they were… yeah, long dead.
What? I just had my first kiss and I'm thinking about my parents?
No, I have to think about something else.
The system, yeah.
The system?
No, I'm just thinking about…
Uh…
Lasa herself.
Mike blushed. Lasa was so red she looked like she might explode.
"Lasa, can I ask you something?"
Lasa looked at him, "Y-yeah, sure."
Mike asked, "How long have you loved me?"
Lasa said, "Since the first time we met."
Mike and Lasa spent some more time together. Now that they loved each other, something would change.
"Hey Lasa, is it okay if we keep this a secret for now?"
"Yeah, okay," she answered.
"Is there anything new with your game system?" she asked.
"Yeah, actually," he thought, but said,
"No, everything's the same as before."
"Mikeeeeee!" they heard Giel shout.
