Chapter 19: The Cafeteria fight
They had no time to convince Mike. They ran.
"What is Mike planning?" asked Kad as they sprinted.
"We don't know," said Giel and Lasa in unison.
"Has he gone insane?"
Flames roared through the entire base.
The Suls had found them.
A real catastrophe.
How was training supposed to continue after this?
Was this the end of the academy?
They were almost at the cafeteria — the place Mike told them to regroup.
Then suddenly—
Has was standing there.
"Haaas!" Lasa shouted.
He didn't respond.
He simply turned toward them and silently joined their side.
"Hey Has," said Lasa, stepping closer, "show me your arms. Maybe I can heal them."
She held her hands over his broken limbs.
A crack echoed — he screamed in pain.
"Aahhh…!"
Then, after catching his breath, he muttered:
"…Thanks…"
Then he asked, voice low:
"Am I weak… just because I lost once?"
Giel and Lasa looked at each other.
Then Lasa smiled.
"No! We all lost in the tournament too. Does that make us weak?
You're stronger than I am — way stronger, actually."
They laughed gently, but were suddenly interrupted—
An axe flew toward them.
It was aimed directly at Kad.
Without hesitation, Has stepped forward—
He raised his hand—
The axe sliced through it.
"AHHHH!" he screamed, blood splattering.
Kad froze in shock.
"W-why… why did you save me? You could've let a weakling like me die…"
Has gritted his teeth and said:
"Because the strong protect the weak."
Lasa knelt beside him, focusing hard.
"I can heal it… but I won't have any magic left for the next few days."
The bleeding stopped.
Has clenched his new wound.
They turned toward the attacker.
It was a Sul — tall, cloaked in shadows.
Has stepped forward, alone.
Black hands shot toward him.
He dodged swiftly.
Then he raised his voice—
"LIGHT BLIND!!"
The cafeteria exploded with blinding white light.
Everyone was forced to cover their eyes — everyone but Has.
How long… has he had that technique? Lasa wondered.
Then — silence.
A body collapsed.
The Sul lay dead — pierced by a beam of light.
Then—
A roar shook the ground.
They looked out a broken window.
"WHAT… IS… THAT!?" Giel screamed.
"A DRAGON!?"
They saw Mike fighting the dragon — but right now, there was nothing they could do.
They turned away from the window, looking around the ruined cafeteria.
Quickly, they pushed tables and chairs against the doors.
The room was a mess.
Bodies everywhere.
"This is a disaster…" whispered Lasa.
Chefs.
Commanders.
Soldiers.
All gone.
They were the only ones left in the cafeteria.
Fires still burned in several corners.
The ceiling had a giant hole in it.
Suddenly — a creaking noise.
"Oh no… someone's trying to get in…" Kad whispered, eyes wide.
The chairs they'd stacked toppled to the floor.
The door burst open.
"Hey, calm down!" a voice called.
A tall figure stepped through.
"I'm a S-Rank SAL.
My name's Da. I'm here to get you out."
He looked around, assessing the situation with sharp eyes.
"There are still four shadow mages left.
My team is dealing with the dragon.
Come with me — now!"
They ran through burning corridors.
Then — they saw Ilius.
Lying in a pool of blood.
"No…" whispered Lasa. "Not Ilius…"
He had been one of their best healers.
A quiet one. Always helping.
Now — gone.
They reached the landing zone.
Several helicopters were waiting.
And then—
On a stretcher, they saw him.
"MIKE!!" screamed Lasa, rushing forward.
But Giel grabbed her arm.
"No—! Not yet. We can't just run in."
Tears welled in her eyes.
"Is… is he dead?" she asked, voice shaking.
Before she got an answer, one of the soldiers pulled her into the helicopter.
The doors closed.
The rotors began to spin.
