Chapter 4: Time Guardians
The dim light inside the cave cast long, dancing shadows, but the masked figure's eyes gleamed with an uncanny light. His presence amplified the mystery of the place.
"Who are you?" Arhaan asked, his voice low but firm.
The masked figure stepped forward. "I am one who is trapped in time… and now you have stumbled into this web as well."
Arhaan and Raghav exchanged a bewildered glance.
"What do you mean?" Raghav asked.
The masked figure opened his palm, and a shimmering image of the Kaaldarpan materialized in the air before them.
"Whoever gazes into this mirror does not merely see the past… they become a part of it."
Arhaan's heart began to pound.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that the memories you find will not remain mere memories. They will beckon you… and one day, you will find yourself trapped within the past."
The Secret of Vikramgarh's Walls
The masked figure gestured towards the wall. "Have you looked closely at these markings?"
Arhaan and Raghav examined the walls. They were the same symbols they had noticed earlier—a man pointing towards the mirror, and another figure standing masked.
"What do these symbols represent?" Arhaan asked.
The masked figure said in a deep voice, "This is a cycle… a cycle that repeats itself. I was once like you—a seeker, wanting to unravel this mystery. But when I looked into the Kaaldarpan, I trapped myself within this game. Now I am here… a prisoner of time."
The Attack of the Kaalsanrakshaks
Arhaan was still trying to grasp this new information when they heard a commotion outside the cave.
Raghav strained his ears. "They're here."
The Kaalsanrakshaks.
"We need to leave!" Arhaan exclaimed.
But the masked figure raised his hand. "If you run, they will always find you. But if you truly wish to understand the power of the Kaaldarpan… you must go inside."
Arhaan was taken aback.
"Inside the Kaaldarpan?"
The masked figure nodded. "Yes. Only then will you know what this power is and how you can escape it."
Loud footsteps echoed outside the cave.
Raghav looked at Arhaan. "It's your decision… we can either run, or face the truth."
Arhaan stared at the Kaaldarpan.
He now had only two choices—to flee… or to step into the past and become a part of this game.
The decision lay with Arhaan… and whatever he chose, his life would be changed forever.
The voices of the Kaalsanrakshaks grew louder outside the cave. Their footsteps echoed off the cave walls, reverberating within. Arhaan's heart raced.
"We have to decide!" Raghav said anxiously.
Arhaan looked towards the masked figure. There was a strange truth hidden in his deep eyes.
"If I go into the Kaaldarpan, will I be able to return?"
The masked figure paused for a moment, then said softly, "That depends on what you find there… and whether you can bear the truth."
"What if it's a trap?" Raghav questioned.
"Every mystery holds a price within it," the masked figure said cryptically.
The shadows of the Kaalsanrakshaks were now visible at the cave entrance.
Arhaan didn't have much time.
Arhaan took a deep breath. He slowly took out the Kaaldarpan from his bag. Its surface was cold, but as he looked at it closely, he felt a slight tremor—as if it was calling out to him.
"Am I ready?" he asked himself.
"You don't need to be ready… time itself will teach you," the masked figure said.
Arhaan glanced at Raghav. Raghav was worried, but he nodded, urging him to do whatever he had to quickly.
Arhaan closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and peered into the Kaaldarpan.
Inside the Kaaldarpan
As he looked into the mirror, a strange scene began to emerge before his eyes. Everything became hazy, as if time was swirling around him.
Suddenly, he felt as if he was standing somewhere else… in another time.
An old mansion… tall pillars, heavy wooden doors, and burning lamps on the walls.
Arhaan looked around. This place seemed familiar to him… but he had never seen it before.
"What time is this?" he whispered to himself.
At the same time, a woman's voice echoed in the air—"Take shelter… the darkness is growing."
Arhaan turned around, but there was no one there.
But just then—
There was a rustling behind the door.
Arhaan slowly stepped forward and opened the door.
Inside, a woman stood, dressed in a deep red saree, with an ancient pendant around her neck, and her eyes… her eyes were the same as he had seen in the Kaaldarpan!
"You… who are you?" Arhaan asked, startled.
The woman looked at him, her eyes filled with a strange pain.
"Don't you remember… Arhaan?"
Arhaan's heart skipped a beat.
"How do you know me?"
The woman gave a soft smile. "Because you left me here… in a previous life."
The Kaaldarpan was no longer just a mystery… it was a doorway, which could unlock the deepest secrets of time.
Arhaan stood before the mysterious woman, whose deep eyes reflected a strange pain. Her red saree fluttered in the gentle breeze, and the pendant around her neck shimmered in the dim light.
"You left me here… in a previous life," the woman's voice was soft but enigmatic.
Arhaan's mind was in turmoil. "This… this is impossible! I don't know you!"
The woman's eyes held an unusual glimmer. She gently took off the pendant from her neck and held it out to Arhaan.
"If you truly don't know, then touch it…"
Arhaan hesitated. But an unseen force drew him towards the pendant. Just as his fingers were about to touch it, light flashed all around, and he was once again pulled into the vortex of time.
Another Leap of the Kaaldarpan
Now he was somewhere else…
The 17th century.
Tall mansions all around, old palaces made of stone, and people wandering in the streets. Arhaan's clothes had changed—he was now in traditional royal attire, with a small turban on his head.
"What… what is happening?" he looked at his hands.
Just then, a soldier on horseback passed by, who, upon seeing Arhaan, said—
"Master! You must return to the palace, the queen is waiting for you!"
The Maze of Old Times
Arhaan's heart began to beat rapidly. Queen? Which queen?
He now understood that the Kaaldarpan was not just showing the past—it was putting him inside the past.
He unknowingly began to walk towards the palace, which shone from a distance. As he reached the huge gate, some guards saluted him and made way for him.
"Your Majesty, the queen wishes to discuss something important with you."
Arhaan slowly moved forward. His breath was held back.
Inside the palace, in a vast chamber, stood the same woman whom he had seen in the cave.
The Mystery Deepens Further
"So you have come…" the woman said softly.
Arhaan couldn't understand anything.
"Who are you?" he asked in a trembling voice.
The woman took steps towards him and said in a low voice—
"You will remember everything, Arhaan… just give it a little more time."
Just then, a heavy voice echoed from behind—
"Time waits for no one. And this time, you will have to give us what is ours!"
Arhaan turned around.
There stood a man—dressed in black clothes, with a strange glow in his eyes.
"You…" Arhaan tried to recognize him.
The man smiled.
"The Kaalsanrakshaks never give up, Arhaan… you are now trapped in the game of time."
The game of time had now become even more dangerous… and every mistake Arhaan made could push him further into the deep web of time.
* Is this really Arhaan's past, or just another illusion?
* Who is that mysterious woman, and what is her connection with the Kaaldarpan?
* The Kaalsanrakshaks are now directly in front of Arhaan—will he be able to escape them?
