----------------------

Because of the fact that we arrived a week earlier because of Deiki's diplomatic mission, I had a lot of time to kill. And a lot of things to do... So I went around and visited Konoha's sights for another day, without meeting any of the main cast this time. On the third day, Deiki took all of us for some team training, in which, he aimed to help us make decisions as a team, without having to communicate with each other.

And so, I found myself face to face with Deiki, with my teammates behind me. Our aim here, is to stall for time until "reinforcements" arrive. This exercise aimed to make our teamwork swifter in the face of a stronger enemy, who won't be holding back, as Deiki previously did. This exercise is a precaution, should we end up having to fight against Gaara during the Chunin Exams.

My sensei initiated the fight, by lunging towards Baki with a speed that was hard to follow. By the time I was able to react, Deiki was already in front of Baki, who had hastily thrown out a guard. Which did nothing to block the Jonin, who punched right through it. I Projected next the Jonin, and punched him in the liver, only for my Reinforced punch to be ignored, and for me to be kicked in the head.

I Projected once more, appearing behind him, as Karin tried to get him from the front, only for him to ignore her, and turn back towards me. This time, I was grabbed by the wrist, and was thrown onto Karin. I quickly recovered, before jumping towards Deiki once more, I used Reinforcement to its maximum, to stall for time, so Baki could hopefully prepare something.

And so, I waited. And waited. And waited. Even as my knuckles started bleeding, as the bones in my forearms started creaking, I still kept Deiki's attention on me. Would I have been able to dodge most of his blows? Yes. Would that make me better at fighting hand to hand? Also yes. And I needed more experience in fighting without Projection, should I get low on chakra anytime soon. So, I decided to tank, after all, Karin will heal me anyway.

Whenever Deiki tried to disengage, I would start grappling, and whenever he tried to hit me, I would either block, parry or dodge. Without using Projection. While I was holding up pretty well, considering I was using all of my chakra for Reinforcement only, I should have been doing better. My strength and durability was close to my sensei's, but my reaction speed and my own mastery over my technique's were worse. And while the difference in experience was quite large, I was a Zenin, and Deiki was a nobody. It's just the truth.

While Baki and Karin hadn't interfered too strongly in my fight with the Jonin, they did come in to relieve some pressure whenever needed. And, suddenly, Deiki stopped fighting, and motioned me to stop as well. I obliged, and, after stopping and analyzing my surroundings, I noticed we were surrounded by a lot of explosive tags, which were strewn all over the ground, and vegetation around us.

Deiki smiled, looking over us.

"Good job, you three really surprised me, since you did this without communicating directly with each other. Usually a plan like this would come about only after a solid hour of arguing. Good job." He flashed us a thumbs up, before walking back towards our inn. "Go and enjoy the rest of the time until the Chunin Exam."

------------------

Not much happened on the rest of the days. Deiki simply debriefed us on our notable opponents, making it abundantly clear that a few people were off limits. Konoha's and Suns's Jinchuriki, and the last Uchiha. So long as we didn't mess with them, we should be fine, both politically and physically.

Karin and Baki were dressed in their usual gear, although they were much better equipped, courtesy of Deiki giving them the funds necessary for better weapons. Baki had been training in Kinjutsu for quite a bit of time now, as it would allow him to strike from farther away, better covering my own back.

We were getting a bunch of weird looks from the plebs we passed by on the road, presumably because we were noticeably stronger than most of them. Either that, or the fact that Karin was screaming at me. Why? I had no idea. So I ignored her.

As we entered the hall, we were greeted... by a cleaner. We had arrived a few hours before the scheduled time. We simply went to a side of the room, and started talking. Well, the woman did. I ignored her, and Baki was humoring her. The patience of a saint was needed to even be in the same room as her, why one would willingly talk to her was beyond me.

As I waited, more and more people arrived. The most noticeable ones being the sand trio, and members of the Konoha Eleven. I greeted Choji, and he gave me a chip, as I wasn't allowed to bring anything to eat by Deiki. I then stuck to them for a bit, getting introduced to the other Konoha Genin.

And, out of all of them, one stood out, for knowing how to act. Finally, a proper woman in this village. The Hyuuga heiress was exactly how a woman should be. Quiet and submissive. I even got Karin to me and showed her a proper example of how she should act, and she immediately started attacking me, which just further proved my point. After a little bit, Baki had come and calmed her down, and they started talking with the others.

This continued, until Naruto and Sasuke entered, as the small mob of Konoha Genin went to greet them. A bit after their reunion, another countryman of theirs approached them. It was a teen with grey hair, tied back in a ponytail, with large round glasses. It was Kabuto, Orochimaru's accomplice.

He started going over his cards, after a short dialogue with the Konoha Eleven. He went over Rock Lee, Gaara and me. I smirked when I heard my name, and walked over confidently.

"Naoya Zenin, the only survivor of the Zenin clan. He is rumored to have mastered his clans techniques to near perfection, and, despite not being promoted from Genin, his combat power is estimated to be anywhere from low Chunin to Tokubetsu Jonin. His Projection technique is akin to short range teleportation, that, coupled with his chakra reinforcement technique makes his combat prowess exceed that of his peers. He is also known for his foul demeanor, inherited from his late clan, who had an extremely unfavorable view of women." Kabuto said, laying down the card with my information on the floor.

I Projected beside him, a smug grin on my face, as I stopped him from talking. "I am quite the man, eh?"

"Although his capabilities far exceed his rank, he has no notable missions to his name, mostly doing escort and bandit cleansing missions."

"Clan head duties keep me in the village, you kids wouldn't understand." I said, checking myself out in the photo on the card. After a bit of checking myself out, I raised my head, only to find that Kabuto was the only one left near me. I took my card and put it in my pocket.

"You can keep it." He said, with a strained smile.

"No shit I can. You can't stop me from taking it." I said, before turning my back to him, walking towards my teammates. "Pray you don't end up against me in any combat situation. I don't take kindly to plebs talking bad about me in front of the future generation of Konoha leaders."

Kabuto simply nodded weakly. As I walked away, I was startled by a sudden shout.

"MY NAME IS NARUTO UZUMAKI!! AND NONE OF YOU ARE GONNA BEAT ME!!!! BELIEVE IT!" My ears rang from the shout, my head snapping towards his direction. This little shit is lucky I can't fight with him yet.

After the shout, a figure quickly jumped towards Kabuto, who dodged the blow, only to fall on his knees, vomit flowing from his mouth. Naruto and some pink haired genin rushed towards him, to help him.

The next moment, in a poof of smoke, a bunch of Konoha Shinobi appeared, the hall going quiet at their sudden appearance. A man with a scar across his face started talking.

"Sorry to have kept you waiting. My name is Morino Ibiki. I'm the proctor and chief examiner for this part of the exam."

He went on to talk about some rules or something, but I promptly ignored him, taking out my card once more, and checking myself out some more. Soon after, I saw that everyone took a seat, and I followed suit. I was given a sheet of paper with a ten questions on it. I started to answer them.

The first question was cryptography, which was basic for me to say the least. The next one was a physics question, which was easily answered as Projection required a fine understanding of physics. And so, I worked through each of the questions, with little difficulty, as one would expect from the heir of the Zenin. Only to get stumped at the last question;

'This question will not be provided until forty-five minutes in the exam. At that time, please answer the proctor's question to the best of your ability.'

I put down my pen and the paper, and started to observe the others. Most of them were copying from others! What retards! They can't even answer such basic questions? I put my legs on the table, as I leaned back on my chair.

As I gazed at the ceiling, I saw an eye formed of sand and a mirror, moving around from side to side. I am honestly at a loss for words. Most of these things are pretty easy things, I knew them from my time back when the clan still was. Only a little bit of help from some of Hotai's words was required for me to solve em...

After a bit more dozing off, Ibiki started talking.

"... You must first choose whether to accept or reject the question..."

I stopped listening after that, and waited for all the cowards to be weeded out. It doesn't matter what the question is, I could answer it, I am, after all, THE Naoya Ze-

"NEVER UNDERESTIMATE ME!!! I DON'T QUIT, AND I WON'T RUN!!-" I phased out the shout which broke me out of my stupor, by covering both my ears with my hands.

Naruto continued to shout his lungs out, and I continued to ignore them, choosing to take my forehead protector from my left hand and using its fabric to plug my ears. But, while doing this, the proctor suddenly spoke;

"So, everyone who is still here you've just passed the first exam!"

I tied my forehead protector back on my left hand, being pretty dumbfounded... That was it? How lame...

I zoned out for a bit, and when I paid attention to my surroundings again...

"There may be circumstances where being caught in an act of espionage can cost you more than just your life." Ibiki said, uncovering his head, revealing an ugly scalp, marred by burn marks, punctures from where screws were used, and long slash marks.

I made a disgusted face,motioning for him to put his forehead protector back on. Unfortunately, he seemed to not see me, but, fortunately, he covered his scalp once more.

Then, out of a window rolled in a woman, who made a dramatic entrance. She had managed to throw some knives perfectly to hang a black sheet with white writing on it while rolling. Which was moderately impressive, I could have done better. And, in a single motion after doing that, she sprung to her feet, announcing;

"None of you are in any position to celebrate. I am the second chief examination officer, Mitara-"

I tuned her out, and, I was eventually dragged along by Baki.
