Chapter 045: Turns Out You Can Make Money from Poop
Tokinatsu had vanished.
However, the Senju clan didn't show any unusual reactions to her disappearance.
In fact, ever since Tokinatsu and her group had come under Tsukuyo's command and undergone her "transformations," they hadn't stayed long in the Senju clan's territory.
Most of them had undergone drastic changes in appearance, and their names had been altered as well.
Even those who had known them before could no longer recognize them.
If they wanted to reconnect with their old acquaintances, they would have to start from scratch.
As for Tokinatsu, she had never been particularly close to anyone, nor was she exceptionally talented. She was the type of person who easily faded into the background.
Tokinatsu herself wanted to leave her past behind, so she had no desire to return to her old "circle" and deliberately avoided her former life.
Her disappearance didn't cause much of a stir.
Tsukuyo reported Tokinatsu is actions to her father, Senju Butsuma, the clan leader.
Butsuma didn't comment on Tsukuyo's actions.
Killing a traitor was something no one would consider wrong.
And so, the matter was quietly dropped.
After Tokinatsu is situation was resolved, Senju Wakama heard some news about Uchiha Izuna from his sister.
That evening, after being thoroughly humiliated by Tsukuyo, Uchiha Izuna hadn't been able to return home immediately. Instead, he had been ambushed by the Hagoromo clan on his way back.
After Tsukuyo sent a message to Izuna's brother, Madara, Madara personally went to rescue his younger brother.
At the time, the two brothers weren't strong enough to face a large number of adult ninja, so they fled into the forests of the Nakano River.
The animals in the forest recognized Madara and Izuna and naturally helped them.
In the end, they managed to return to the Uchiha clan safely.
But from that point on, the Uchiha clan began a full-scale hunt against the Hagoromo clan.
Regardless, the feud between these two clans had nothing to do with the Senju clan—at least for the next six months or so, the Senju wouldn't be facing off against the Uchiha.
Now, thanks to Princess Tsukuyo leading the clan to prosperity, the Senju clan still took on ninja missions, but only to maintain their status as the "industry standard" among the various ninja clans.
Senju Butsuma had started to be more selective about the missions they accepted.
If a mission was too troublesome and the reward too meager, Butsuma would politely decline.
As Tsukuyo put it, "Why risk your life for a few hundred ryo per person?"
It was better to return to the clan territory and focus on small businesses.
Under Tsukuyo's continuous "guidance," the collective mindset of the Senju clan had undergone a massive shift.
In the eyes of the Senju clan now, going out and not making money was considered a loss.
If you not only failed to make money but also lost your life, that was a loss so great it felt like you'd been cheated out of your very soul.
Thanks to Tsukuyo, the clan had gained a clear understanding of the ninja world.
In this world, everyone was selling something—whether it was their lives, their strength, their products, their talents, their bodies, or their labor.
If you were selling something, you had to make money from it.
Before accepting any mission, the Senju clan had to calculate the cost-benefit ratio and the risk-reward balance.
The core idea was to maximize their own profits.
They needed to reduce costs, increase profits, and, if possible, exploit others' labor for free.
Exploitation was the primary driving force of productivity.
In this cruel ninja world, if you didn't exploit others, they would exploit you.
Sure, the commission for a mission might seem high, but how many lives would the clan lose completing it?
If all the ninja who took on the mission died, the client wouldn't have to pay the commission. Wasn't that just another form of exploitation?
After all the able-bodied men died, could you be sure that the money they earned with their lives would actually reach the hands of the elderly, women, and children left behind?
So, you either had to be ruthless or be treated as expendable.
After listening to Tsukuyo's twisted logic, Butsuma reflected on the Senju clan's history.
It was true. They had fought and died for their clients' missions, making enemies with other clans and shedding blood.
The clients sat back and watched, treating them as nothing more than tools for slaughter. They hadn't been seen as human.
Money meant power.
In the past, they hadn't known how to make big money outside of taking on missions.
But now they did.
As the clan leader, Butsuma knew the production costs of Tsukuyo's products.
It was just water and plants, wasn't it?
The water used to make hydrosols and essential oils was provided by water-style jutsu.
The fire used in the production process was provided by fire-style jutsu.
The wood used in the process was taken directly from the Nakano River forests.
The stoves used in production were created with earth-style jutsu.
Some of the plants used as raw materials grew wild in the Nakano River forests, and even the gathering was done by the forest animals.
The Senju clan only had to spend money on making pots, stoves, and some filtering tools.
With ninjutsu assisting in the process, the cost of making these tools was minimal.
When you compared the cost to the price at which the hydrosols and handmade soaps were sold, it was almost pure profit.
A few ryo of cost could be sold for thousands or even tens of thousands of ryo.
It was almost too absurd and surreal.
Given this reality, why would the Senju clan bother with troublesome ninja missions?
However, Tsukuyo had also said that they needed to keep a low profile. They couldn't let other clans know they were wealthy, so they still had to take on some missions to avoid suspicion.
The winter sunlight spilled across the sky.
The houses built from wood created by wood-style jutsu and reinforced lightweight stone were covered in pristine snow.
Over the past six months, Wakama's older brother Hashirama and his sister Tsukuyo had both developed wood-style jutsu.
Hashirama focused on finding ways to apply wood-style jutsu effectively in battle.
Tsukuyo, on the other hand, had a much more unconventional approach—she used wood-style jutsu to develop the clan's territory.
The Senju clan's territory had been completely transformed by Tsukuyo, to the point where it was almost unrecognizable.
The new buildings in the territory were laid out with pavilions, towers, and terraces, completely breaking away from traditional architectural styles.
The most significant change was that Tsukuyo had incorporated a "septic tank recycling system" and an "underfloor heating system" into the new buildings.
This was something no one had ever seen before.
And it was because of Tsukuyo's innovations that Wakama learned something shocking—you could actually make money from poop.
The methane produced by the septic tanks could be burned, significantly reducing the clan's fuel consumption.
The wastewater left after fermentation could be used to fertilize farmland.
The vegetables grown by the Senju clan, combined with this concentrated "fertilizer" and the wood-style jutsu of Hashirama and Tsukuyo, grew exceptionally well. These vegetables could be sold to the nobles of the Land of Fire, providing another significant source of income.
Over time, the reduced fuel costs lowered the clan's overall living expenses.
Within the Senju clan's territory, everyone's faces naturally wore warm smiles, no longer stiff and tense from the struggle to survive.
Wakama's life had returned to its usual routine of intense competition.
On the first and fifteenth of every month, Wakama would meet with Hyuga Miyu.
At other times, Miyu would occasionally send a small parrot to deliver messages expressing her longing.
The rest of Wakama's time was spent training in the secret techniques taught by his brother and learning new knowledge from his sister.
