Chapter 31: Chapter 31: A Scene of Fate
One month later, Uchiha Clan Training Grounds.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
With just two throws, six kunai struck six different targets in quick succession.
Yun proudly lifted his chin toward Izumi, who gasped in admiration and clapped enthusiastically.
"Big brother, that was amazing! Can you teach me?"
Yun scratched his head. He honestly didn't know what basis Itachi's shortcut formula had, but whatever, in this world, even Newton's coffin had already been nailed shut ages ago.
So, Yun straightforwardly passed on Itachi's little "secret technique" to Izumi.
The girl was thrilled and repeatedly practiced her new skill.
In truth, Yun's home life was very different from Itachi's or Shisui's. Itachi was the son of the former clan head, and Shisui's ancestors included a student of Tobirama, the "fall guy" for forbidden techniques.
Both had no shortage of ninjutsu. Whether it was Shadow Clones, Uchiha Fire Techniques, their households had scrolls for it all.
But Yun was different. All he had from the Uchiha Clan, aside from a place to live, was the bloodline for the Sharingan.
That's also why, in the records, even after Izumi awakened her Three-Tomoe Sharingan, her specialty was still listed as taijutsu.
"Let's go, Izumi! We still need to buy dango. Mother gave strict instructions before we left this morning."
"Coming! I just need to pick up my ninja tools."
Yun called out while Izumi trailed behind like a little duckling as they headed to the commercial street.
Now a little over seven years old, Izumi followed obediently, occasionally glancing around as if looking for something.
Right in front of the dango shop, Yun stopped, and Izumi nearly bumped into him.
After buying the last set of three-color dango, the owner closed up shop for the day.
"You've been glancing around this whole time. Let me guess, looking for that emotionless face?"
They spotted Itachi carrying his younger brother Sasuke on his back, staring a bit disappointedly at the shop's closed door.
Izumi walked over with the dango in hand.
"Itachi, were you coming to buy some dango too?"
Itachi looked slightly embarrassed; his love for sweets was supposed to be a secret Yun kept.
Izumi lifted her bag of dango and said with a grin:
"I got the last one! But if you want some, even though it was for our mom, I could share it with you."
Itachi grew even more awkward. He glanced at Sasuke on his back and muttered:
"It's not for me… It's for Sasuke. He wanted some, so I brought him along."
Sasuke cheerfully chimed in, "Eat! Eat!"
Izumi laughed and replied:
"Let's find a place to sit. I haven't seen you in so long."
As Yun watched the three walk off, the scene struck him with a strange sense of déjà vu.
Itachi had already graduated early and become a genin. His jonin instructor after team placement would be Minazuki, and his teammates Tenma and Shinko.
In Yun's original memories, this dango outing should've been with Fugaku and Itachi, but now, Itachi was bringing Sasuke instead.
'Come to think of it…The time Itachi awakened his Two-Tomoe Sharingan wasn't far off either.'
'Wait a second.'
Yun's eyes twitched slightly.
'Izumi actually gave away the dango meant for our mom? And she ditched me?!'
At a riverside dock, Izumi sat nearby, holding her sore head and blinking back tears, not daring to say a word.
Yun sat between the siblings, turning to Itachi and saying:
"So, how's being a genin? I'm on break while you're running around chasing cats, dogs, and picking up trash from downstream."
Itachi glanced at the dango Yun had taken. Two were still uneaten.
He sighed in defeat and said:
"Honestly, it's been pretty interesting. My teammates are nice, and Minazuki-sensei is a good teacher."
Yun smirked:
"Wow, didn't expect you to actually make friends. Impressive. That's growth."
After a pause, Itachi shifted sleeping Sasuke into a more comfortable position and asked softly:
"Yun, why do you think they resent us so much?"
Yun blinked.
"By 'they,' you mean the civilian shinobi? And 'us' meaning the Uchiha?"
Itachi nodded. Yun thought for a moment and replied:
"Saying 'resentment' might be an exaggeration, let's call it friction. That teammate of yours, Tenma, right?"
"Remember your graduation exam? That chunin proctor was Tenma's older brother. A chunin losing to a genin is already awkward, but losing to a seven-year-old? That's a joke."
Itachi quickly defended himself:
"But I didn't go all out…"
His voice trailed off. With Yun's hint, the bright Itachi pieced it together.
It didn't matter whether he held back or not. What mattered was that a chunin lost to a child, an Uchiha prodigy.
To the average civilian ninja, it felt like nobles looking down on them from above.
"Itachi! There's a mission. What are you doing here?"
The voice belonged to Tenma, the same teammate Yun had once knocked around with a shadow clone.
Itachi jumped to his feet:
"I have to drop my brother off first. I'll be there soon."
Tenma muttered something about being a hassle and walked away.
Yun chuckled:
"Jealousy can twist a person. That 'genius' title you've got? This is the price. Just take care of your bonds, Itachi."
Itachi nodded and prepared to leave.
Yun called out again:
"That crow Shisui gave you isn't just a substitution tool. With summoning, it can pass on messages, too. Keep that in mind, it'll help."
"Big brother! You really hit the back of my head hard!"
"You never learn."
"Well, when you get a girlfriend someday, I'll totally be your third wheel."
"Girlfriends only slow down my draw speed."
"Brooo…"
"What?"
"I'm telling Mom that you want to be single forever!"
Bonk!
Holding her head again, Izumi lowered her proud little head.
'Why is there such a big power gap when we were only born minutes apart? If I weren't so bad at fighting…'
Yun looked toward the Hokage Tower in the distance and thought of that doomed team in his memories.
Itachi's team had barely lasted a year. Tenma and Minazuki were both killed. As for Shinko, there were two versions: One, he gave up being a shinobi. Two, he was also killed by Obito.
Root Headquarters.
Danzo asked while reviewing documents:
"Is Itachi's team arrangement finalized?"
A figure in the shadows replied:
"Instructor: Minazuki. Both teammates are civilian-born."
Danzo put the papers down:
"Proceed with the assignment. Once bonds form, move forward. And remember, Although the team lacks any clan members, I don't want the Fourth Hokage noticing any flaws."
The shadow nodded and silently left.
