Chapter 68: Chasing Nora
The moment Nora saw Takimura for the first time, she was stunned by its beauty.
Nestled within a vast valley surrounded by towering mountains, the village seemed almost untouched by the chaos of the outside world. A majestic waterfall, as tall and grand as the peaks themselves, cascaded down in an endless, roaring stream. A dense forest, teeming with wildlife, stretched beyond the river that split the village in half.
Everything about Takimura felt like it had been shaped for a peaceful life.
Nora had only ever known two places - her own village and Konoha. Compared to the Hidden Leaf, Takimura wasn't as grand, nor was it as populated, but there was something undeniably striking about it.
She had grown accustomed to the lively, cheerful faces in Konoha after staying there for two weeks. It had been a refreshing change from the stoic, rigid atmosphere of Kaiketsu, where tension clung to the air like a second skin.
But Takimura was different.
The people here were kind, treating each other with warmth, but there was an undeniable concern behind their smiles. It was as if everyone was masking their own worries, trying to spare those around them from further distress.
It was obvious that the village was going through difficult times.
Yet what shocked Nora most was how the mood instantly shifted when the children returning from the Chunin Exams appeared.
The moment the villagers spotted them, their faces lit up. Cheers erupted, voices filled with genuine joy and pride. It was as if they were welcoming home heroes.
Nora watched it all in silence.
'This whole place is weird,' she thought. Yet she felt a small pang of jealousy. If she had returned to the Arasami Clan as a failure, she wouldn't have been met with cheers or relief.
She would have been punished.
'The Arasami must always prioritize their missions. It is better to die than to fail and remain alive.'
The voices of her instructors echoed in her mind.
Her entire life had been filled with pain and discipline, leaving no room for comfort, no space for warmth. Seeing others live so freely, even in hardship, was something she struggled to understand.
To her, anything that could cause a smile felt carefree. And carefree was something she had never known.

It had been over a week since Nora arrived in Takimura. She was staying with Tsunade, and aside from the occasional hostile looks from those who knew her or had ties to those who did, everything was fine. She was enjoying her time in Takimura, but it was starting to get boring.
"Lady Tsunade, may I train for a little bit?" she asked. Though she never wanted to return to her life in the Arasami Clan, she still had the desire to grow stronger.
"Of course you can," Tsunade replied. "In fact, I've already asked for permission, and you can use the training ground right in front of our house."
Takimura didn't have any inns capable of accommodating someone of Tsunade's status. Instead, Suiren and Meruem had arranged for her to stay in one of the recently built houses. It was simple - a sturdy wooden structure, masterfully crafted yet modest, furnished with high-quality but unembellished furniture.
Tsunade didn't mind. She wasn't in Takimura for comfort or luxury. She was here for a personal mission. She wanted to gather information on the Arasami Clan and, if necessary, eliminate them.
After receiving permission from her new guardian, Nora left the building and walked toward the training grounds.
'The air is so moist here,' she shivered slightly. Unlike the residents of Takimura, she wasn't used to the constant mist, a side effect of the massive waterfall that dominated the valley.
The training ground she approached wasn't particularly large. A tall wooden fence enclosed the area, and inside, towering trees provided shade and natural obstacles. As she got closer, the sounds of movement and exertion became clearer, someone was already inside.
Nora didn't care.
She didn't need much space, just a small corner, as long as the person inside was willing to share. While a part of her would have preferred to throw them out, she knew better than to cause unnecessary trouble in Takimura.
She pushed the door open slowly and stepped inside.
'I'll ask nicely. People here seem friendly, I doubt they'll refuse.'
She had already planned out what to say when she caught sight of the person training inside.
A boy stood in the center of the field, his eyes closed, his face tight with pain.
Around him, twelve droplets of water hovered in midair - six of them moved in perfect sync, while the rest drifted erratically.
Nora was curious. She paused, watching silently, but before she could analyze further, Kaoru's eyes slowly opened. The hovering droplets dissolved as he released the technique.
"Hello, Nora. How may I help you?" he asked as he walked toward her.
Nora's posture stiffened.
'Out of everyone here, this one probably hates me the most. He was the one who fought Hora, after all.'
She had hoped to run into anyone but Kaoru.
Still, she kept her tone neutral as she spoke. "I wanted to train, and Lady Tsunade told me I could come here. I heard the sounds of someone else using it, but I thought I'd ask if they wouldn't mind me training in the corner."
Nora had changed since her defeat against Mizuki. She wasn't as blunt and dismissive as before, though her voice still carried the same cold neutrality.
"I was about to leave anyway," Kaoru said, picking his jacket up from the ground. Then, without looking at her, he added, "And, Nora, no one here hates you. Hora's actions aren't yours.
"While I did hate you at first, Mizuki told me you avoided striking her vitals during your fight, and because of that, I have no reason to hold anything against you. As long as you choose to live a decent life, Takimura won't treat you harshly."
Without waiting for a response, Kaoru continued toward the exit, still not sparing her a glance.
Nora watched him go as her expression remained completely indifferent.
'I don't think he was being entirely honest… but at the very least, they're treating me far better than the Arasami Clan ever did.'
Even after Kaoru disappeared from view, she stood still for a moment, lost in thought.
Then, shaking it off, she turned toward the field and began stretching.
'I haven't trained in so long… this is going to be painful.'
But she welcomed it. She had spent her entire life in pain, and she had long since learned to enjoy it.
Kaoru's words pleased her, but she wasn't going to dwell on them.
Earning her trust wasn't that easy.

It had been a month since Kaoru began working on his signature technique.
In his free time, he had also been trying to befriend Nora, though he did so as naturally as possible, never forcing the interactions. His interest in her wasn't personal, he wanted to learn more about the technique that granted immense strength in exchange for life force.
Kaoru had no intention of ever using such a technique, but the concept behind it intrigued him. If he could understand how chakra and life force were connected, it could give him insight into how energy flows through the body and how to manipulate it more efficiently.
But getting close to Nora was proving more difficult than expected.
Even now, she remained distant, and any attempt to learn about the technique was completely shut down - not just by her, but by Tsunade as well, who was not in Takimura at the moment. The legendary kunoichi had specifically forbidden Nora from revealing its secrets to anyone.
For now, Kaoru's attempt to learn about the technique was a dead end, but where his efforts to understand life force failed, his training had seen significant progress.
Kaoru had now successfully developed Chakra Rotation pathways for both of his hands, extending all the way through his arms and shoulders.
Currently, he was working on his right leg, and the process was getting easier the more he practiced.
'At this rate, I should be able to complete the pathways for my brain within a year…'
That was his real goal. If he could apply Chakra Rotation to his mind, it could enhance his memory, improve recall, and possibly even reduce the side effects of the Suijingan.
But even with all his progress in chakra pathways, what excited him most was his signature technique.
Kaoru had always admired Mizuki's Butterfly Inferno, so in a way… he had copied it.
But unlike Mizuki, whose techniques solely focused on burning her enemies, Kaoru's abilities were far more versatile.
'For now, I'm learning how to give long-term "orders" to water particles.'
He wasn't just controlling water in real time, he was "programming" it.
His current experiment involved shaping water droplets in the air and assigning them certain movement patterns. Paths they would follow automatically without his constant control.
'It took nearly a month, but I finally managed to do it… though it's still extremely primitive.'
Right now, the "commands" he could give were basic. He could make water droplets follow a fixed path and they could be instructed to crash into anything that entered their range. But the range of these droplets depended on how much chakra he infused into them at the time of creation and Kaoru's current limit was half a meter.
The downside was that they couldn't distinguish between friend or foe. If Kaoru wasn't careful, the droplets would attack him as well.
'They're just following orders, they don't "think." But as long as I can detect their movements, I can stop them before they hit me.'
The technique was incredibly promising.
Unlike Mizuki, who needed time to spread her butterflies across the battlefield, Kaoru could form water droplets instantly and then shape them into high-density needles in the blink of an eye.
However, there was one major issue.
Chakra expenditure.
Right now, he could only cover a five-meter radius, and even then, he could only create a limited number of needles, far fewer than he wanted.
And the worst part was that after forming this incomplete domain, he was almost completely drained. No matter how effective the technique was, it wouldn't be useful unless he could increase his chakra reserves first.
But Kaoru wasn't discouraged.
With time, his mastery would improve. His control would sharpen. And eventually, this technique would require less chakra to maintain.
Kaoru had also begun studying Yin and Yang energies. Itachi's technique had left a strong impression on him, and he quickly realized that if he could learn to control Yin and Yang, he would be able to imbue his water needles with different properties, vastly increasing his combat potential.
To achieve this, he created Shadow Clones every morning and sent them to the library.
Tsunade had brought an extensive collection of books as a gift from Konoha, it was Hiruzen's gift to Takimura. While many might not have appreciated such a present, those who understood the true value of knowledge welcomed it wholeheartedly. Kaoru was one of them and he took full advantage of it.
He had also paid another visit to Brok, the blacksmith. After analyzing Kaoru's abilities and fighting style, Brok had given him a timeframe. It would take at least three months before the weapon would be ready.
His reasoning was simple.
"Without chakra metal, your weapon would be utterly useless."
Kaoru had tried to give input on specifics, but Brok had shut down every attempt.
"I know far better than you what kind of weapon you need," the blacksmith told Kaoru.
And to prove it, he had made an unusual promise, if Kaoru wasn't satisfied, he would not only return every ryo he had paid but also pay him the same amount on top of it.
Had Kaoru known how much just the materials for his weapon cost, he wouldn't have dared to question anything. But Brok had kept those details secret.
And so, with nothing else to do but trust the blacksmith's expertise, Kaoru continued his training.
Just like that, the time for Kaoru's very first mission as a chunin arrived.
"Ru, did you get the order too?"
Akane approached him, holding out a scroll. On it were written the details of their mission. Their team remained the same - Kaoru, Mizuki, and Akane. But this time, their jōnin leader wouldn't be Shin.

A/N -
The training arc isn't over yet, the upcoming mission will be short and serve as part of the arc.
I'll be explaining Kaoru's new technique in more detail as he refines it, and I'll also dive deeper into Yin and Yang over time. I want the information to come naturally rather than forcing it, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments, and I'll be happy to answer.
Additionally, I'd like to dedicate one of the upcoming chapters to exploring the backstory of a side character. Let me know which character you'd like to learn more about - Shin, Mizuki, Nora, or Akane.
Small Request – If you're enjoying the story, consider adding it to your library and gifting Power Stones to help it reach more people. It would help me a lot!
Character Notes:
Mora - Smothered - "Is Kaoru in love with me or whats happening?"
Kaoru - Determined - "I'll get that information no matter what"
Tenma - Desperate - "Can I please complete the mission and return?"
