Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Aburame Torune
Swoosh—
Since they had been discovered, the fight began. A wave of kunai flew towards them, which Uchiha Nagi dodged nimbly, pulling Kimimaro with him.
A dozen Root ninja appeared, silently forming an encirclement to prevent Nagi's escape.
Uchiha Nagi stated calmly, "Are you Anbu? Or Root? I'm curious, how did you find me? My disguise skills are even better than the Transformation Jutsu."
The man with bandaged hands spoke directly, "You don't need to know who we are, Uchiha Nagi. The water you drank last night was poisoned by us. You have no chance of winning. If you're smart and don't want to die, surrender obediently. Otherwise, we'll have to take your corpse back to complete our mission."
Uchiha Nagi scoffed. "Skulking in the shadows, not even wearing Konoha headbands. It seems you're Danzo's dogs."
He then whispered quietly to Kimimaro, "Kimimaro, when the fighting gets dangerous, you can use the power of your Shikotsumyaku."
Kimimaro nodded, replying in a low voice, "Okay, sensei. I'll protect myself. You don't need to worry about me."
Kimimaro wasn't boasting. Against purely physical attacks, he could indeed protect himself. Although he was still a child, the powerful defense of his Shikotsumyaku meant he no longer had to fear being stabbed to death by kunai or swords.
"Water Style: Water Dragon Jutsu!"
A ninja wearing a rat mask was the first to attack, unleashing a powerful Water Dragon Jutsu. It was a simplified version that didn't require as many hand seals. As he cast the water jutsu, another ninja formed hand seals, a powerful lightning jutsu crackling to life on his hands before he merged it with his partner's Water Dragon.
A Combination Ninjutsu.
By adding electricity to the water, anyone hit would be instantly paralyzed by the current. Since water conducts electricity, this would allow them to capture Uchiha Nagi alive.
But…
Nagi wasn't going to be taken down that easily. "Earth Style: Earth-Style Wall!"
A wall of earth rose instantly, blocking the combination jutsu. As long as the electrified water dragon couldn't touch them, they were safe. Before the water could reach his feet, he had already leaped back several times with Kimimaro, escaping the jutsu's range.
However, just after casting the Earth-Style Wall, Nagi couldn't help but frown. He felt something was slightly off within his body, but he couldn't put his finger on it.
In the distance, the bandaged squad leader revealed a strange smile, muttering to himself, "The water you drank last night was laced with my nano-sized venomous insects. You didn't expect that, did you? The nano-insects aren't a poison, but rather bugs. The more chakra you use, the faster they multiply…"
Last night, after confirming that Uchiha Nagi had entered the town, they hadn't followed him in. Instead, they had set up traps outside. They knew their target had powerful sensory abilities, able to detect even a hawk without chakra.
So the Root squad leader, Aburame Torune, had controlled a few insects to secretly release the nano-bugs into the town's water source. The water heavily diluted the nano-insects, but in turn, it made the water colorless and odorless. Even a medical ninja wouldn't be able to detect the microscopic bugs.
As long as a few nano-insects entered the body, they would begin to reproduce. The moment a ninja used their chakra, the insects would absorb it and multiply rapidly within the body. Thus, Uchiha Nagi had fallen into their trap.
As Nagi retreated with Kimimaro, several ninja closed in, surrounding them.
Nagi threw a single kunai, then his hands flew through a seal, unleashing Orochimaru's A-rank jutsu.
"Shuriken Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
One kunai instantly multiplied into hundreds, filling the entire space. On a battlefield, this was a large-scale arrow rain.
But the Root squad sent this time consisted of ninja who were at least high-level chunin. They wouldn't fall for such a trick.
"Earth Style: Earth-Style Wall!"
"Water Style: Water Wall!"
"Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique!"
A variety of flashy, miscellaneous jutsu were cast with perfect coordination—half for defense, half for offense.
This was the terrifying power of a team. Half the members defended while the other half attacked. A lone ninja could never cast two jutsu simultaneously.
Facing the infamous Great Fireball, a jutsu that supposedly never hits its mark, Uchiha Nagi naturally wouldn't be hit. That would be a joke.
But his brow furrowed again. The strange feeling was more pronounced now. There was something odd inside his body, devouring his chakra, and the antidote was useless…
Moreover, after he cast his second jutsu, the strange things seemed to have multiplied.
"You've noticed? It's useless even if you have. Because that's not poison at all." The bandaged man unwrapped the bindings on his arms, revealing purple limbs.
Nagi's pupils contracted sharply at the sight. Purple hands. He recalled a special member of the Aburame clan in Root, the one who could control nano-sized venomous insects.
"Nano-insects? Aburame Torune?"
Hearing his name, Torune's body stiffened. He stared at Uchiha Nagi in disbelief. "How do you know who I am? Where did you get this intelligence?"
Confirmed.
He'd baited him with just a name. The people in the Naruto world were so simple.
Uchiha Nagi smiled. "I was wondering why my body felt wrong, yet I couldn't detect any poison. So it was your nano-insects."
Aburame Torune sneered. "Hmph, what does it matter if you know? There is no antidote for this jutsu. You're a dead man."
Uchiha Nagi shook his head. "Every jutsu that exists has a weakness. And if there's a weakness, it can be overcome. And you, as the caster, are the key to undoing it."
"Hmph. Let's see you defeat us first."
Whoosh.
Uchiha Nagi crouched low, his breath carrying faint sparks of lightning. "Thunder Breathing, First Form: Thunderclap and Flash…"
Before he had even finished speaking, his entire body transformed into a streak of golden lightning, weaving between the dozen or so Root ninja. Apart from three or four taijutsu specialists or those with superior Body Flicker skills who managed to dodge, the rest were all grazed by the golden flash, a line of blood appearing on their necks.
"…Sixteen Fold."
CLANG—
With the sharp ring of metal, he sheathed his sword. Only then was the second half of his sentence uttered.
These dozen ninja were cannon fodder, but even cannon fodder could be fatal if he wasn't careful, especially with Kimimaro present. So, Uchiha Nagi had decided to clean them up immediately.
"You… you…" Aburame Torune was stunned. This swordsmanship was unheard of. In the ninja world, the vast majority focused on ninjutsu and taijutsu. Very few trained in kenjutsu, and even fewer achieved mastery.
The only known masters were the deceased Hatake Sakumo and Hanzo…
"Stop, Uchiha Nagi! If you don't want this child to die."
