Chapter 6: Chapter 6 – A Glimpse of the Future
The sun dipped below the horizon as Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura walked back from the Academy. The successful field exercise had left them in high spirits—well, mostly Naruto, who was still buzzing with excitement.
"We totally crushed them!" Naruto beamed, his hands behind his head. "Kiba didn't stand a chance!"
Sakura rolled her eyes. "You barely dodged his attacks, Naruto. If it wasn't for Sasuke's plan, we wouldn't have won."
Naruto pouted, nudging Sasuke's shoulder. "Come on, you gotta admit I did good, right?"
Sasuke smirked faintly, looking ahead. "You didn't do terrible."
Naruto grinned. "I'll take it!"
As they neared the Namikaze estate, Sasuke's thoughts drifted elsewhere. The warmth of the house he now called home stood in stark contrast to the chilling memories of his past. He had spent two years with the Namikaze family, and though he rarely expressed it, their kindness had become an anchor in his life.
---
"Welcome home!" Kushina's voice rang out from the kitchen as they entered. The scent of her cooking filled the air, making Naruto's stomach growl audibly.
"Mom! We had a field exercise today, and guess what?" Naruto launched into an exaggerated retelling of their adventure, gesturing wildly as Minato entered the room with a chuckle.
Sasuke quietly removed his shoes and made his way to his room, but Minato's gentle voice stopped him.
"Sasuke, wait."
Turning, Sasuke met the Hokage's calm yet firm gaze.
"How did today go?" Minato asked, his blue eyes filled with a quiet concern only a father figure could have.
Sasuke hesitated, then gave a small nod. "It was… good. We worked well together."
Minato smiled. "That's good to hear. You've come a long way."
Sasuke didn't reply, but a part of him felt a flicker of appreciation for Minato's constant support.
---
Later that night, Sasuke sat outside under the full moon, his mind swirling with thoughts of his clan, his future, and the path he was meant to walk. He didn't notice Naruto approaching until his best friend plopped down beside him.
"You thinking about them again?" Naruto asked quietly, his usual loud energy replaced by a rare softness.
Sasuke nodded, not looking away from the stars. "It's not something I can forget."
Naruto hugged his knees, his eyes distant. "You know... I don't remember my parents much, but living here with you and Mom and Dad... It kinda feels like how it should've been, y'know?"
Sasuke glanced at him, a ghost of a smile appearing. "Yeah… it does."
Naruto grinned and punched Sasuke's shoulder lightly. "So, you better not go all broody and leave or anything, got it?"
Sasuke smirked. "Tch. As if I would."
---
Unbeknownst to the boys, far from Konoha, in the depths of a darkened lair, Orochimaru sat watching a flickering projection of Sasuke through his hidden spies.
"The boy has grown stronger... but he remains chained to that village." Orochimaru's golden eyes glowed with malice.
Kabuto stood beside him, adjusting his glasses. "Shall we act soon, Lord Orochimaru?"
Orochimaru's lips curled into a sinister smile. "Not yet... but soon. The curse mark will remind him of the power he truly seeks."

The next morning at the Academy, Iruka gathered the class with a serious expression.
"Today's session will be different," he announced. "You'll be paired with a senior genin for a joint training exercise."
The class murmured in excitement and nervousness.
Sasuke's eyes narrowed. A chance to truly test myself...
As teams were announced, Naruto and Sasuke found themselves paired with none other than Neji Hyūga. The stoic prodigy regarded them with his usual cool expression.
"Try to keep up," Neji said, his Byakugan flaring.
Naruto huffed. "Oh, we'll do more than keep up!"
Sasuke remained quiet, but deep down, he felt a spark of anticipation. It was time to see how far he had come—and how far he still had to go.
