Chapter 26: Tricks

That evening during dinner, Uchiha Ken noticed the two hidden Jonin guarding their home. He couldn't help but turn to Kira and ask, "What's up with those two hidden shinobi? Where did they come from?"

Mikoto and the others also turned to Kira, curious.

Kira chuckled and replied, "Oh, those two? They're from the four Root members I captured a week ago!"

"I've developed a new technique based on the Tongue Cursed Seal—it's a mental enslavement jutsu. I have them completely under control, so there's no risk of betrayal."

"I sent two of them back to infiltrate Danzo's side and spy on him, while the remaining two are here to assist us."

"If you ever need their help, just give the order."

The plan to manipulate public opinion might not completely evade Danzo's suspicion. But with Owls keeping an eye on him, they could react accordingly to any moves he made.

As for why Kira was willing to provoke Danzo despite knowing the risks?

Simple—distraction, retaliation, and control.

Danzo had already made a move against him, and his hatred for the Uchiha clan had been festering for years. Why should Kira hesitate?

"Oh?" Ken raised an eyebrow. "A mental enslavement jutsu? Are you sure it won't backfire? And sending spies into Danzo's ranks... You know how cunning he is, right? That won't be easy."

Ken had never underestimated that old fox.

"Of course!" Kira nodded confidently. "But deception and disguise are what Root shinobi specialize in. I'm not worried."

"Alright then," Ken relented with a nod. "As long as you know what you're doing."

As vice-captain of the Police Force, he had plenty of subordinates. He didn't need extra hands.

"Mikoto, how did your mission go?" Kira suddenly turned to her mid-conversation.

She had been away for half a month.

Mikoto smiled. "It went well. There were some hiccups, but I managed. I broke through to Jonin level, so it was worth it. All thanks to you, Kira."

Without him, she wouldn't have grown so quickly.

"Oh, right!" Mikoto suddenly added, "Grandfather wants you to come over for dinner tomorrow. Do you have time?"

"Of course! I'll make time," Kira responded without hesitation.

This was a must.

His relationship with Mikoto was already acknowledged on both sides. Even Uchiha Clan Leader had noticed, and Fugaku had stopped pursuing her. It seemed he had given up.

At the Root Headquarters,

The flickering fire from the torches cast eerie shadows across the room.

Danzo sat with a dark expression, his sharp gaze fixed on the kneeling kaa and Juu. He silently activated his sensory abilities to check their Tongue Cursed Seals. Only after confirming there were no issues did he finally speak in a deep voice.

"Why are you only returning now? What happened? And where are Ibis and Sha?"

He had assumed all four were dead, wiped out by the Uchiha. He never expected two of them to return, though heavily injured.

"Lord Danzo!" Kaa immediately began his rehearsed report.

He explained how they had approached Uchiha Kira with an invitation but were rejected. When they attempted to force him, they were ambushed by four Uchiha Jonin who had been secretly guarding Kira.

Ibis and Sha had been caught off guard and killed instantly. Kaa and Juu barely managed to escape, evading pursuit only after covering a great distance.

Due to their severe injuries, they had to wait until they were strong enough to travel before reporting back.

Danzo frowned. "You're saying the Uchiha assigned four Jonin to protect that brat in the shadows? That's absurd! Has Ken lost his mind?"

Four Jonin?

Even among the Uchiha, that was a high-ranking force. And they were acting as bodyguards for a three-year-old?

Since when were Jonin so disposable?

"It's true!" Juu confirmed.

Kaa also nodded in agreement.

Danzo's frown deepened. He remained silent for a while before finally waving his hand. "I miscalculated. I never expected the Uchiha to value that brat so much."

"This failure isn't your fault. Go recover."

Danzo couldn't understand what the Uchiha were thinking.

Was Uchiha Kira really that important?

"Understood!" Kaa and Juu responded.

Before leaving, Kaa hesitated and asked, "Should we continue trying to capture Uchiha Kira?"

"Not for now," Danzo decided after a brief pause. He wanted to, but his instincts told him to wait. "Let's wait for things to settle down first."

"The Uchiha's protection is too tight. On top of that, the Third Hokage is watching, and Tsunade, that crazy woman, is also protecting him. It's not a good time to make a move."

Ever since losing Nawaki and Dan, Tsunade had become unpredictable.

Danzo had no desire to provoke her right now.

"Understood!" Juu and Kaa nodded in relief before leaving.

They had successfully fooled him.

Their success stemmed from Danzo's overconfidence in his own techniques. He believed that with the Tongue Cursed Seal and his brainwashing methods, betrayal was impossible.

But those most confident in their own skills often met their downfall because of them.

The next morning, Kira was dragged to the Uchiha Elder's home by Mikoto.

"Ah, Kira, you're here! Come, sit!" The First Elder greeted him warmly, motioning for him to take a seat. After having tea and snacks prepared, he smiled and said, "Thank you for taking care of Mikoto."

"It's nothing! It's what I should do!" Kira responded with a light chuckle.

Taking care of his future wife was only natural.

The Elder nodded approvingly. "Are you still studying at the hospital? Do you plan to become a medical-nin?"

"Not at all," Kira shook his head. "I'm just learning more about medicine to assist with my research."

"Besides, I'm still too young to attend the Ninja Academy. Might as well use this time wisely, right?"

He understood the Elder's concern.

But it wasn't necessary.

"Haha! That's good!" The Elder laughed heartily. "I almost forgot you're only three! I was worrying for nothing."

"Just remember—true strength is what matters most in the ninja world."

"Medical skills and research are fine as hobbies, but focus on improving your strength. That's the foundation of your future."

"Only when you're strong enough can I entrust Mikoto to you."

"And perhaps, the future of the Uchiha as well."

If Kira weren't so young, the Elder would have already considered making him the next clan leader.

Compared to Fugaku, Kira was far superior.

He had never been satisfied with Fugaku, which was why he had delayed the arranged marriage. That hesitation had given Kira the opening he needed.

"I understand," Kira nodded solemnly.
