Chapter 76: Chapter:77
Pain frowned and asked, "Be more specific."
Kirito began to speak with a serious tone, despite the nonsense he was about to spout:
"The first method is verbal persuasion. Simply put, it's using words to convince the deceased to resist the control of the Impure World Reincarnation and ascend to heaven."
"However, this method has many limitations. First, the deceased must be strong-willed. Second, if you're not careful with your words, you might enrage the resurrected soul. Also, as the Impure World Reincarnation technique improves, the effectiveness of this method decreases. Worse, the enemy may attack while you're talking. Overall, mouth-to-mouth persuasion is extremely risky and should be used only as a last resort."
"The second method is through illusions, like those generated by the Sharingan, which can control the caster and force them to cancel the Impure World Reincarnation. This is the easiest and most straightforward method."
"The third method is to extract the soul. This is something only someone with the Rinnegan, like the leader, can achieve. When I was in Konoha, I snuck into the archives and read some of the Second Hokage's notes. There, I found records mentioning the Rinnegan's soul-reaping abilities."
"One such ability is to pull the soul from a person's body. Think about it—if the soul is gone, the reanimated person is no longer under the caster's control."
"And lastly, there's Yin-Yang Release." Kirito glanced at the unique black-and-white figure, Zetsu, before continuing. "Yin-Yang Release is different from Yin Release, like illusions, or Yang Release, like medical ninjutsu. It's a combination of both."
"In the Second Hokage's notes, it's written that Yin-Yang Release contains both the power of creation and destruction. It's said to be a technique exclusive to the Sage of Six Paths. It nullifies all ninjutsu, and even a reanimated body can't withstand its effects. Once hit, the body can't regenerate. In severe cases, it can even be reduced to ashes."
"This technique has never been seen in use because it's nearly impossible for a person to wield both Yin and Yang chakra simultaneously. Even if someone could, they would struggle to merge the two."
There were two other methods Kirito didn't mention. One was that if the deceased knew the seals of the Impure World Reincarnation, they could break free from the control of the summoner. The other was his Zanpakutō, which could kill even the reanimated dead.
As soon as Kirito finished, silence fell over the group, leaving the atmosphere as still as death itself. No one had expected that such secrets existed in the ninja world.
After a while, Pain broke the silence. "That's enough for now. Keep an eye on Orochimaru. He won't stay idle for long. As long as he's alive, he will surely take action."
"He's certainly troublesome," Deidara complained. "Learning a technique to bring back the dead... If not for Kirito, we might have been in serious danger, hmm."
"Speaking of immortal bodies, there's another one we should deal with," Konan added.
Pain explained, "It's a request from Yugakure. They say a murderer appeared, and they've asked us to eliminate him."
Kakuzu was slightly surprised. "Doesn't Yugakure have ninjas of its own?"
"They couldn't kill him. It's said that he's the only successful product of an ancient cult that experimented with immortality. Whether this immortality is real remains to be seen," Konan replied.
"Now for the mission details. Sasori, Deidara, you will continue with Kirito to recruit a new member, Scorch Release user Pakura. Zetsu will give you the location of the ambush prepared by Hidden Mist. Kakuzu, Konan, and Itachi will take care of the other task. Dismissed!"
With that, Pain released the Phantom Body Technique.
"He sure likes giving orders," Deidara muttered. "Hey, Kirito, are the leader's eyes really that powerful? They can take people's souls?"
As soon as Deidara opened his eyes, he couldn't wait to ask Kirito.
"Well, they are the eyes of the Sage of Six Paths himself. It's not surprising they have such abilities. But I've never seen it in action, so I can't verify its full power. Who would want to mess with the Rinnegan, anyway?" Kirito replied, making up explanations as he went along.
"That's true, hmm. It can kill people by taking their souls—pretty artistic in its own way, hmm," Deidara said, nodding.
"Alright, enough with the chit-chat," Sasori interjected impatiently. "If we delay too long, that woman from the Sand Village will be in trouble."
"I know, I know," Deidara said, summoning two giant clay birds.
The group flew toward the Land of Water with Kirito, Sasori, and Deidara.
The journey wasn't too long. Carried by Deidara's birds, the three crossed the Land of Fire and several other countries, arriving at the Land of Water in less than a day. There, they met Zetsu.
"Finally here, huh?" Black Zetsu murmured as he spotted the giant bird descending from the sky.
After a while, the group landed, and Kirito, Deidara, and Sasori dismounted from the bird.
"How's the situation? Has the new recruit, Pakura, arrived?" Deidara asked, forming a hand seal to dismiss the clay bird.
"We should expect her before sunset. The Mist Village shinobi are already lying in ambush on both sides of the mountain pass, waiting for Pakura to arrive," Black Zetsu replied in his usual raspy tone.
"Oh? It's a perfect ambush spot. Mountains on both sides, with plenty of space to hide a large force. If the target walks into the trap, they'll be bombarded with shurikens and kunai," Kirito remarked thoughtfully.
He recalled that in the original story, Pakura was ambushed in a similar place, pierced by countless shurikens and kunai until her body resembled a pincushion.
Sasori glanced at the mountain path below and sighed softly. "So, what's the plan? Should we strike now?"
"There's no need to act yet. If we intervene too soon, Pakura will grow suspicious. Only when she sees the true darkness of Sunagakure will she be more inclined to join us. We wait for the right moment to step in," Kirito replied, shaking his head. He took out his wind chime hat, sat cross-legged, and closed his eyes to rest.
Not long after, around dusk, a figure appeared at the entrance to the mountain path.
The woman wore a black backless dress, though her chest was covered conservatively. A Sunagakure forehead protector adorned her head, and her hair was styled into a bun with bangs that were a rare orange color, contrasting sharply with her dark green hair.
But what caught Kirito's eye was her smooth, fair back and well-shaped figure, which rivaled even Mikoto's.
