Chapter 65: Chapter 3:Hardships for future?!
The night had fallen, blanketing the woods in an eerie darkness. Team 7 and Shibuki had set up camp, though the process had been less than smooth thanks to their jittery client. Shibuki, terrified of the dark, had screamed at precisely 8 p.m. and demanded they stop for the night. The trio had begrudgingly complied, their patience wearing thin with every demand he made.
As the group settled in, Shibuki had begged Kakashi to sleep in his tent. The sight of the man swaddled in a dozen blankets like a frightened child had elicited suppressed snickers from Naruko and Hitomi. Kakashi, ever the laid-back teacher, had simply shrugged and set up a shadow clone to keep watch. "I'll keep you safe, Shibuki-san. Now, please relax," Kakashi had said with an eye smile, though the amusement in his voice was evident.
Meanwhile, the second tent, reserved for Team 7, was far more cramped. Yuto had passed out almost instantly, his face peaceful and serene. His Kamigan training to master radiation release had taken a toll on him, leaving him with a pounding headache, but sleep had come swiftly.
Naruko and Hitomi, on the other hand, lay wide awake.
'Why is he so adorable when he's asleep?' Naruko thought, sneaking glances at Yuto's sleeping face. His soft, even breaths and slightly furrowed brows made him look unexpectedly vulnerable.
Hitomi's thoughts mirrored hers, though she wouldn't dare admit it aloud. 'So irritatingly cute. Why does he look so different when he's not being all smug and mysterious?'
The two girls turned their heads slightly, and their eyes locked.
A spark of unspoken rivalry passed between them.
"Don't you dare," Naruko whispered, her voice low but firm.
"Don't I dare? What are you even talking about?" Hitomi shot back, her tone equally hushed but sharp.
"You know exactly what I mean," Naruko hissed. "I see the way you look at him."
Hitomi's cheeks flushed, though she maintained her composure. "As if you're any different. At least I don't drool over him during training."
"Excuse me?! I do not drool!" Naruko retorted, her voice rising slightly before she quickly hushed herself as to not wake Yuto up.
The two glared at each other, both unwilling to back down. Despite being reincarnated siblings with a complicated history, their shared tsundere natures meant they would never openly acknowledge their feelings for Yuto, let alone to each other.
"Fine," Hitomi muttered, breaking the silence. "But don't think for a second that I won't fight for what I want."
"Same to you," Naruko shot back, her eyes narrowing.
Their whispered argument ended as both turned their backs to each other with a huff, though neither could resist stealing one last glance at Yuto.
Outside the tent, Kakashi's Clone smirked to himself, fully aware of the tension brewing among his students. "Ah, young love," he mused quietly, before turning his attention back to his book. "This is going to be interesting."
The morning sun filtered through the canopy of trees as Team 7 and Shibuki resumed their journey. The crisp air was a refreshing change from the confines of their tents, though Yuto was still puzzled by something.
"Why did Kakashi-sensei pat my shoulder this morning and say, 'You'll deal with many hardships when you grow old'?" Yuto muttered to himself, scratching his head. "What does that even mean?"
Naruko, walking beside him, gave him a curious glance. "What's got you mumbling, Yuto?"
"Nothing," he replied quickly, though his mind still replayed Kakashi's cryptic words.
As they continued their journey, the group approached a serene lake. Its tranquil waters were disturbed by several children, who were waist-deep, hauling trash out of the water. The scene struck the trio as odd, but their confusion turned to curiosity when the children spotted Shibuki.
"Shibuki-sama!" one of the kids called out, his voice full of excitement.
In an instant, Shibuki's demeanor shifted. Gone was the jittery, fearful man they had grown accustomed to. He straightened his back, adopting an air of authority, and walked toward the children with a calm, almost regal stride.
"Ah, children," Shibuki said in a deep, wise tone that surprised the trio. "You're all doing well, I see. Keep up the good work. A clean lake means a healthier village."
The children gathered around him, their faces lighting up with admiration as he patted their heads and offered words of encouragement.
Naruko blinked. "Wait… is that the same guy who begged Kakashi-sensei to sleep in his tent last night?"
Hitomi crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. "It's like he's a completely different person."
Yuto rubbed his temples, trying to make sense of it. "He did a complete 180. How is he acting all... wise and composed?"
"Shibuki-sama, will you give us some guidance today as well?" one of the children asked, looking up at him with wide, hopeful eyes.
Shibuki placed a hand on the child's shoulder, his expression serious. "I'm only passing through for now to go to the village, but I guess I can give you kids some time, I'll always do my best for our village. You all are the future, and it's my duty to guide and protect you."
The trio stood behind him, their jaws nearly hitting the ground.
"Guide and protect?!" Naruko hissed under her breath. "This guy screamed like a banshee when a squirrel ran past us yesterday!"
Yuto rubbed his forehead harder, observing Shibuki's theatrics, trying to calm his anger. "He's got some guts pulling this off. I'll give him credit for the act, though."
Hitomi's eyebrow twitched. "If only he could show a fraction of this courage when we're not in front of an audience."
Shibuki turned back to them, his face still wearing the mask of a serious leader. "Team 7, you may rest while I give these kids some lessons."
The trio reluctantly sat down nearby as they watched shibuki teach some nonsense to the kids, their expressions a mix of disbelief and amusement.
Naruko whispered, "I swear, if he pulls this act again, I'm going to lose it."
Yuto chuckled, "Let him have his moment. It's probably the only time he feels in control."
Hitomi sighed, watching as the kids looked at shibuki with awe. "I just hope he can live up to their expectations someday. For now, though, he's just... ugh, so fake."
