The caravan had already slowly left the small town behind, advancing steadily along the main road toward the Land of Lightning. At this pace, it would take roughly a month to reach their destination.

On either side of the road stood towering trees that stretched endlessly into the sky, their lush green canopies forming an impenetrable wall of foliage. Despite having seen such sights countless times before, Miao couldn’t help but marvel inwardly at the sheer scale of nature in this world. The dense, ancient forests that were rare in his previous life were commonplace here—especially in the Land of Fire.
Up ahead, Rock Lee was as energetic as ever, bounding around like a monkey. One moment he was perched atop a tree branch surveying the horizon, and the next he was leaping onto boulders by the roadside, shouting excitedly about youth and vigor.
"Hmph, what an energetic beast. No wonder he calls himself the 'Blue Beast,'" Miao thought with a faint smirk beneath his mask, watching Lee’s antics from the rear of the group.

Matsumoto Shōji and the other guards exchanged uneasy glances, wiping sweat from their brows. With questioning looks, they turned to Yūhi Kurenai, who was stationed on the left flank of the convoy.
"Mr. Matsumoto, please don't mind him. He's always like this, but when it really matters, he's quite reliable," Kurenai said, forcing a strained smile.
"Ho ho, is that so?" Matsumoto replied awkwardly, though his skeptical expression betrayed his disbelief. The other Konoha chūnin shared similarly uncomfortable expressions—they knew all too well how eccentric Lee could be.

Still, Lee's antics did manage to lighten the mood somewhat. After all, everyone was on edge, wary of potential ambushes from bandits, rogue shinobi, or other threats lurking in the shadows.
However, the gazes of the Konoha shinobi frequently drifted toward Miao, who brought up the rear of the ◈ Nоvеlіgһт ◈ (Continue reading) group. Their eyes held a mix of disdain and condescension. To these shinobi from one of the Great Hidden Villages, bounty hunters like Miao were considered inferior—unrecognized outcasts operating in the gray areas of the shinobi world. In their eyes, bounty hunters were akin to peasants compared to the noble status of official village shinobi.
And yet, this "lowly" bounty hunter had begun to overshadow them. With his impeccable mission success rate, even their own village's business had been affected. It was no wonder their gazes carried hostility.

Miao, of course, noticed the ill intentions behind those stares. Having wandered the shinobi world for years, he understood perfectly what those looks meant. But beneath his mask, a corner of his lips curled into a sneer. "One day, I'll make you see true fear," he thought to himself.
---
By now, the caravan had gradually crossed the border of the Land of Fire, traveling along a wide road surrounded by dense forest. From this point onward, everyone knew the real challenges would begin.

Within the borders of the Land of Fire, bandits and rogue shinobi rarely dared to attack caravans escorted by Konoha shinobi. However, beyond its borders, things were different. Danger lurked everywhere.
Occasionally, the chirping of birds and the buzzing of cicadas broke the silence, but no one spoke. The Konoha shinobi remained vigilant, scanning their surroundings warily. Miao, however, appeared completely relaxed. Thanks to his Sharingan, his perception far surpassed that of the others. While he couldn’t sense any immediate threats, he knew they weren’t alone—not yet.
Days passed uneventfully. During the day, the group traveled; at night, they camped in the wilderness. By now, they were far from the safety of the Land of Fire. Even amidst the journey, Rock Lee’s boundless energy showed no signs of waning. He continued to leap and shout, proclaiming loudly, "Youth cannot afford to rest!"

Over time, the merchants and guards grew accustomed to Lee’s bizarre behavior. What initially shocked and bewildered them eventually became just another part of the trip.
At one point, Lee suddenly appeared beside Miao, flashing his trademark blindingly white grin. "Young man, why are you always so gloomy? You need more youthful energy! You should face the morning sun with a smile like me!" he exclaimed enthusiastically.
Miao slowly turned his masked face toward Lee, his eerie, ambiguous features staring silently at the exuberant ninja. After a long pause, a single word emerged from beneath the mask: "Idiot."
The instant the word left his lips, Lee froze, his mouth hanging open in shock. His entire body seemed to turn to stone, creating a comically absurd scene.

Without another glance, Miao moved past the petrified Lee. Behind him, Lee clenched his fists, tears welling up in his eyes. "Why?! Why is everyone always like Kakashi?! This is unfair!!" he shouted dramatically at the sky, as if appealing to some higher power.
Hearing Lee's outburst, Miao suppressed a chuckle. "It's your personality that's unusual," he thought smugly.
Just then, Miao's body tensed slightly. His eyes narrowed sharply. "Something feels off... It's too quiet around here."

Indeed, the caravan was nearing the edge of the forest. But at some point, the surrounding area had fallen eerily silent. Even the sounds of birds and insects had vanished without a trace.
Lee, Kurenai, and the other chūnin also sensed the unnatural stillness. Years of experience on missions had honed their instincts. While rookie genin might overlook such details, seasoned chūnin—and certainly jōnin—would quickly recognize the signs of impending danger.
