Chapter 75: Chapter 75: The Wife of the First Hokage
Led directly by a servant to the large bed, Kushina suddenly felt an indescribable sensation in her heart. This feeling felt like it was aimed right at the person on the bed.
"Can you sense my chakra?" As Kushina stood lost in thought, a faint, aged laugh came from the bed—an old woman's voice.
As she approached, another servant pulled aside the hanging curtains. Standing before Kushina was an elderly woman with a kind smile. Although everything about her seemed aged and worn, her eyes were sharp and piercing, as if capable of instantly distinguishing good from evil.
Kushina slightly widened her eyes, staring at her. The old woman had long, flowing white hair spread across the bed. Even though it had turned gray with age, Kushina could easily imagine how breathtakingly beautiful she must have been in her youth.
"Who are you…?" Kushina looked at the elderly woman, emotions swirling inside her chest. Though this was their first meeting, there wasn't the slightest sense of unfamiliarity—quite the opposite, she felt a strange sense of closeness.
The old woman simply stared back with a gentle smile and said, "Just like you, child, I too belong to the Uzumaki clan."
Hearing that, Kushina didn't seem particularly surprised—only her expression twitched slightly.
This emotion caught herself off guard—it hadn't been expected.
Startled, she wondered—why exactly did she feel this way?
As if sensing her thoughts, the old woman waved her hand, signaling the servant beside Kushina to step back. Then, motioning with her hand, she beckoned Kushina closer.
Kushina felt unable to refuse anything the old woman said. Instinctively, she stepped nearer. The elder reached out her deeply wrinkled hand—it still held a hint of grace beneath the age—and gently clasped Kushina's.
"I already told you we're both from the Uzumaki clan, so our chakra is the same. You could sense mine, so you shouldn't find it strange that I can recognize you through chakra alone."
The old woman explained with a smile, treating Kushina just like a grandmother would with her granddaughter.
Kushina nodded slightly but chose not to dwell further on the matter.
Soon, the unusual expression on her face vanished completely, replaced once again by her usual energetic vibrance. Looking at the old woman before her, she asked, "Granny, when did you arrive in Konoha?"
She herself had been found over a year ago at the border of the Land of Fire and taken to Konoha by its people. Since this old woman also belonged to the Uzumaki clan, this was naturally the question most pressing on Kushina's mind.
Hearing that, the old woman's expression softened into something wistful as she replied, "I'm not exactly sure anymore... probably more than thirty years ago."
"Eh?" Kushina was taken aback. Though theory wasn't her strong suit, she still knew some basic facts regarding Konoha.
After all, Konoha hadn't even been around for more than thirty-some years. If what she said was true, then this old woman must have come here since the village's earliest days!
Yet from the moment she entered until now, the environment she lived in seemed even less free. Just by counting the guards around, Kushina had already seen dozens of them.
Although she hadn't actually fought any of them, each one's strength was clearly far beyond her current level.
"Hehe," the elderly woman chuckled, then took Kushina's hand and said, "I know you have countless questions in your heart right now—why you were brought here, and even why you came to the Konoha Ninja Village…"
"Though I can't tell you everything at this moment, you can surely feel it yourself—the people here are not as hostile as they were outside."
Kushina had previously lived at the border of the Land of Fire, which wasn't a peaceful place at all; bandits and malicious individuals frequently appeared.
Although there were military troops stationed at the border of the Land of Fire, they never did anything about it.
She wasn't the only member of the Uzumaki clan living in that village—there were others scattered there as well, but…
Kushina had no family, or rather, she had absolutely no idea whether any of her blood relatives were still alive, let alone who they might be. Even if they stood directly in front of her, she probably wouldn't recognize them.
Compared to that life, even though her time in Konoha came with some restrictions, just as the elderly woman said, the people here held no ill intent toward her. Although the students at the Ninja Academy teased and messed around sometimes, they still ended up becoming good friends.
More importantly, there was someone who shone over her like a little sun.
With all this, Kushina already felt incredibly happy. She didn't want to lose any of it—she wanted to protect the place she now considered home.
That's why her dream was to become Hokage!
"Mm-hmm," Kushina nodded immediately, her young face brightening with a smile.
The elderly woman couldn't help pausing for a moment. She knew everything about this child—after all, it was entirely through her efforts that Kushina had come here.
But perhaps, not long from now, she herself would end up destroying everything this girl currently possessed.
She understood very well what was most precious to a child like Kushina.
She also clearly knew that when this girl stepped forward to bear that heavy burden in her place, all of this happiness would slip far away from her.
Because this was all for the man she deeply loved, she wouldn't hesitate—not even for a moment.
He gave everything—even his closest comrades… even his own life—to protect this village, and under no circumstances would she allow anything to go wrong.
"Granny, my name is Kushina Uzumaki," Kushina then tilted her head cutely and asked. She didn't have any blood relatives, but since this elder lady was also from the Uzumaki clan, that meant she truly was family.
"Mito Uzumaki," the elderly woman smiled gently. Hearing this, Kushina's expression instantly turned shocked.
Her face frozen in amazement, she said, "You're the legendary Kunoichi of the Uzumaki clan… the wife of the First Hokage, Mito Uzumaki?"
Even though the Uzumaki clan no longer officially existed, Kushina knew quite a lot about its history.
The Uzumaki and Senju clans were once distantly related. Long before the Uzumaki clan fell, marriages between the two clans were quite common... Among them, the most legendary figure was Mito Uzumaki.
Her husband's name was even more widely known throughout the Ninja World.
Even today, he is revered like a god throughout the Ninja World. Those who witnessed his power believed he was as mighty as the Ninja World's legendary progenitor—the Sage of Six Paths.
The God of Ninja, Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage!
Recalling everything she'd seen since arriving here, it made sense now—the estate, the corridors, even the interior decor, all carried the essence of trees.
This must be how Mito expressed her longing for her late husband. After all, what made the First Hokage so mighty was an extraordinary Bloodline Limit that only he could wield.
