Naruto: Forbidden Arts and an Immortal Agenda

Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Aozora's Condition

Uchiha Tetsuka said, "The clan head wishes to invite you to become his assistant."

"Assistant to the Chief of the Police Force?" Aozora asked with some confusion. "Isn't that your position?"

Tetsuka nodded. "Yes, but I've been given a new posting. Captain Aoki was seriously wounded and the Fourth Squad suffered heavy losses. I've been ordered to serve as deputy commander of the Fourth Squad and rebuild it."

Upon hearing this, Aozora congratulated him. "You're really rising fast! When Captain Aoki retires, you'll probably be the next squad captain. Two captains from one family—your clan's legacy speaks for itself."

Uchiha Aoki and Uchiha Hachidai belonged to the same generation, but Aoki had sustained too many hidden injuries during earlier wars. His combat abilities had already started to decline early on. Now, having suffered another severe wound, he might soon retire with honors.

After hearing Aozora's words, Tetsuka smiled slightly with embarrassment before teasing back, "Not like you two brothers—Shisui has always had the upper hand over Inabi in skill, and now it seems your own talent is also exceptional. Your future looks limitless."

After exchanging some compliments, Tetsuka didn't forget his original purpose. "You still haven't answered me!"

"Aozora, what's your decision?"

Calmly, Aozora took a bite before replying, "Right after today's selection process, the Third invited me to join ANBU."

When Tetsuka heard this, his face darkened slightly.

"But I didn't accept."

A sense of relief passed through Tetsuka.

"However—"

His heart sank again.

Aozora said coolly, "I don't want to take this assistant role unless the clan head agrees to one condition of mine."

What made him want to become a Chunin in the first place?

First was autonomy—to become a freelance Chunin so he could choose missions freely and manage his own schedule. This would give him plenty of time to accumulate gongde and refine several powerful divine techniques, which would ultimately boost his strength.

Second was Ninjutsu—by earning merits, he could exchange for advanced techniques directly from the village, techniques with high potential for developing powerful divine arts.

Clearly, being Assistant Chief of the Police Department wouldn't fulfill these initial goals.

Anyone could tell from the title alone that the job would require constant attendance near Fugaku Uchiha.

This position held great appeal among many young talents in the Uchiha clan. Being the chief's assistant meant participating in both clan affairs and police operations.

It offered valuable experience and helped build important connections—essential foundations for future careers within the police system or clan leadership.

But Aozora wasn't interested. He wasn't particularly ambitious about power.

Of course, the Assistant Chief position did carry some attraction.

With tensions escalating between Konoha and the Uchiha, if he accepted this role, he'd have opportunities to voice suggestions and influence decisions, possibly changing the clan's fate.

That's why he hadn't refused outright.

Tetsuka found Aozora's attitude quite surprising.

"Do you even realize how many clan members would kill to get that assistant role?"

"Just taking on that role means you're guaranteed at least becoming a division commander within the Police Force someday."

Aozora gave a slight nod. "I know that."

Tetsuka was momentarily speechless before exclaiming, "Then why say this?! And dare to make conditions?!"

Aozora said calmly, "He asked me to be his assistant — I didn't push my way into this role."

Now that he had the upper hand, he figured he might as well set some conditions.

He couldn't tell what Fugaku's true motives were for choosing him as an assistant.

Did Fugaku value him? Or was it just appreciation for his judgment during the clan meeting? Was he trying to win Shisui's favor?

Unable to figure out the answer, he wasn't ready to bite off more than he could chew.

Tetsuka stared at him, let out a deep breath or two, then took a few bites of food before finally calming down a bit.

"Alright then, tell me your terms. I'll pass them along!"

Aozora put down his chopsticks and straightened his posture.

"I need freedom over my schedule. At least five days a week should remain open for my own use."

No matter what, improving one's strength was something you could never stop.

He needed time to earn gongde and also time to practice Mystical Techniques.

For these reasons, he was even willing to pass up a say in clan matters.

Hearing this, Tetsuka was stunned.

An assistant was supposed to stay close by — helping with daily affairs while also receiving guidance easily.

"Aozora, are you sure—"

"Don't try to talk me out of it. Just relay my request."

Sighing heavily, Tetsuka replied, "Fine, I'll deliver your message."

After that, they shifted the conversation elsewhere, ending their interaction on good terms.

The next day, Aozora stayed home.

Having just been promoted to chunin, he had a week to recover from injuries and make decisions.

He didn't really need to rest — it was only external damage. Thanks to Aozora's natural healing ability and the miraculous effects of the ointment, he slept it off completely after one night's sleep.

His body had healed, but Aozora wasn't in any hurry to go out yet.

On one hand, he was waiting for Fugaku's reply. On the other, he was planning how to structure his cultivation routine for the upcoming period.

He'd always been methodical when it came to making plans.

After graduating from the Ninja Academy, Shisui had given him a box of ninjutsu scrolls. He hadn't lost himself recklessly in them, instead carefully selecting techniques suited to his needs and building his early kite-fighting strategy.

This kite-fighting style proved extremely effective for Bai.

In a dangerous ninja world full of unpredictable human hearts, simply throwing kunai from a distance had saved him many detours and even helped him avoid assassination attempts during the [Chunin Exams].

However, now that his abilities had been exposed, hidden enemies would definitely adopt more targeted and covert methods.

Yugito's sudden aggression came via explosive kunai. He managed to find a narrow path to survival because the attack had come head-on.

But what if enemies emerged from the shadows?

Old man Danzō definitely didn't play fair or follow any code of honor.

After this kunai incident, maybe he'd lay low for a while — but he wouldn't give up.

The next assassination attempt would be even more dangerous and deadly.

Therefore, Aozora felt it was crucial to learn a life-saving technique.

He glanced over the list of Mystical Techniques he had studied.

[Dao Yin Lian Qi (Taoist Cultivation Method)], Fire Release: Intelligent Hard Work, Yin Yang Eye...

Among these, only [Lightning-Fire Golden Body] — if cultivated to mastery — could serve as a lifesaving skill. The others lacked such functions.

[Lightning-Fire Golden Body] was a Taoist physical training mystical art.

Taoist cultivation methods were traditionally steady but slow, and results likely wouldn't show for three to five years.

Excluding Mystical Techniques, Aozora flipped through the scroll content again.

Eventually, his gaze settled on Summoning Jutsu.

If he remembered correctly, in the original story, Mount Myoboku had the ability to summon Naruto from the Ninja World using the [Reverse Summoning Jutsu].

The [Reverse Summoning Jutsu] was a form of [Space-Time Ninjutsu] that couldn't be easily interrupted, allowing one to instantly escape danger when in peril.

Realizing this, Aozora quickly summoned a senior, gray-feathered Ninja Raven.

"Caw—, Aozora, are you sending me to deliver a message to Shisui?" it glanced around and asked.

It was about the size of a regular crow, except for its unusually sharp, intelligent eyes.

Aozora waved him off, "No!"

"I just want to ask whether your clan knows the [Summoning Jutsu]?"

Gray Feather shook its head. "Our bodies are weak and our Chakra Reserves Amount are limited, so we cannot perform the [Summoning Jutsu]."

"[Summoning Jutsu]?"

"The [Reverse Summoning Jutsu] is a type of [Summoning Jutsu] too."

It huffed impatiently, "If there's nothing else, I'll head back first. The air in the Ninja World is terrible."

With that, it cawed loudly and disappeared.
