Naruto: From Extra to Savior

Chapter 118: Chapter 118: A Long and Lasting Legacy

Every time the Rinnegan shows up, it means the world's most powerful force has returned. The Rinnegan not only has legendary powers like the Six Paths Technique, but it can also control the empty husks left after the Nine-Tailed Beasts are extracted — the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path. If you had to pick its most terrifying ability, it would definitely be the Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique. This horrifying power smashes through the absolute boundary between life and death in the ninja world, completely shattering established rules.

In a normal world, when someone steals control over life and death, the system keeping everything balanced gets massive flaws. In the unpredictable future, no matter how slim the chances, there will always be some genius who grabs hold of this crucial power. Kaguya Otsutsuki, with her immense strength, practically became immortal. Then there's Hagoromo Otsutsuki — the first and greatest ninja, the original chosen child of the world — who pushed the Rinnegan's power nearly to perfection. He sealed his mother, Kaguya Otsutsuki, using Yin-Yang Release and pulled the Ten-Tails out of the God Tree, which he then split into nine tailed beasts. His division of Yin, Yang, and the Five Elements basically laid down the foundation for the entire structure of the ninja world. Calling him the savior of the ninja world isn't quite right — he was more like a divine creator. The story of the Six Paths Sage has been passed down orally through generations, making him a true legend.

From that day on, the Rinnegan never appeared again in the ninja world. Even the two sons of the Six Paths Sage — Indra and Ashura — despite their talent, failed to awaken the Rinnegan. It wasn't until much later that Madara Uchiha implanted cells from Hashirama Senju, allowing the chakra of Indra and Ashura's reincarnations to fuse, which caused the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan to evolve into the legendary Sage's Eyes — the Rinnegan. In other words, combining Yin and Yang Releases was the key to awakening the Rinnegan.

Although there are ways to turn a Sharingan into a Rinnegan, they're basically two different Dojutsu. You could see the Sharingan as an earlier stage of the Rinnegan, but fundamentally speaking, both operate independently. To access each other's powers, you need to switch between them. Of course, someone like Sasuke Uchiha — who got direct help from the Six Paths Sage to awaken the Rinnegan-Sharingan hybrid — could pull off these kinds of stunts easily. Between ancient divine guidance and all his main-character perks, it's no surprise.

So, Yin-Yang Release is an essential part of obtaining the Rinnegan.

But why can clones get something like the Rinnegan? Actually, it's not hard to understand. For the Six Paths Sage to divide Yin, Yang, and the Five Elements couldn't have just been a random move or a show-off stunt. Creating such fundamental laws for the ninja world wouldn't have been something someone like the Sage did on a whim.

From Mizuki's point of view, every world has a limit on how much power it can handle. Just like how during WWII, nuclear weapons were only used once — and even then, only at the very end. And then, after the war ended, people rushed to restrict their use?

Sure, all those politicians might bicker over nuclear monopoly or world domination, but no one can deny how effective this global rule has been – the agreement to keep world-destroying power from spreading is something every individual or group reaching that level must take seriously.

Take the ninja world for example. What happens if Rinnegan powers really start spreading? Two Uchiha going at it over a girl or some stupid pride issue could end up triggering a full-on [Rinnegan Battle] and flattening Konoha. Once you've got way more people walking around with Rinnegan abilities, who's to say something crazy like that won't actually happen? Given enough time, even if the odds are super low, with so many more people involved, the chance of it happening goes way up.

So from Mizuki's point of view, whether or not the Sage of Six Paths Hagoromo had personal motives, his decision to split Yin and Yang from the Five Elements was basically defusing a world-ending time bomb. After Yin-Yang Release was broken into separate Yin Technique and Yang Technique forms, even geniuses like Ashura, Indra, Hashirama Senju, Madara Uchiha, Sasuke Uchiha, and Itachi Uchiha – this whole batch of top-tier descendants from the Sage's bloodline – couldn't even get close to awakening the Rinnegan. Only Madara Uchiha, already old and weak, managed to fuse Yin and Yang Release by combining the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path with Hashirama Senju's transplanted cells, finally uncovering the secret to obtaining the terrifying Dojutsu known as the Rinnegan.

Everything in this world has a reason behind it. There's always a pattern if you know where to look. The Sage of Six Paths' actions definitely helped the ninja world in some way. His separation of Yin, Yang and the Five Elements actually worked out pretty well.

But the world didn't only have the Sage of Six Paths wielding the Rinnegan. In fact, he wasn't even the first – Kaguya Otsutsuki came way before him.

For Kaguya Otsutsuki, who secretly ate the God Tree Fruit, her most fundamental identity was being the progenitor of Chakra itself. Chakra represents a stolen trump card of the world's natural rules, and the way Kaguya and Ten-Tails Jinchuriki controlled such high-level power was through the Rinnegan. The world itself seems to resist creating new Rinnegan users – after all, the idea of someone stealing its divine authority shouldn't even be possible. Yet the Sage of Six Paths, acting on the world's will, created a hidden safeguard – a backdoor that limited the spread of the Rinnegan. Unexpectedly though, both Madara Uchiha and Obito Uchiha found ways to bypass that restriction and secretly obtained the Rinnegan.

Of course, how much Black Zetsu pushed things along is another matter entirely. As an independent will created by Kaguya Otsutsuki before she was completely sealed away, Black Zetsu's purpose was to destroy the protective seals left by the Sage of Six Paths. Its hopes of recreating the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki and breaking free from her prison all hinged on the power of the Rinnegan.

As the progenitor of Chakra and the original user of the Rinnegan, Kaguya might be the only one capable of bypassing the Sage of Six Paths' restrictions on separating Yin and Yang, and still obtaining the Rinnegan.

Mizuki hadn't personally witnessed it, but he still felt certain that as long as the clone's body could hold up, it would eventually awaken the [Rinnegan]. The reason? Mizuki had full confidence in the power of those life-saving pills.

For this Sasuke Uchiha clone—whose body had already activated every recessive gene—the limitations imposed by Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths, were merely the starting point. Its true potential came from a direct bloodline connection to Kaguya Otsutsuki herself. So theoretically speaking, as long as there was enough chakra, any feat achievable through Kaguya's [Dojutsu], the clone could replicate.

That sheer level of power was exactly why Mizuki believed so strongly in the clone's potential. Sure, Desert Sand and Deidara were incredibly strong—top-tier in the world, at least when you ignored those absurdly overpowered late-stage characters who treated full-body Susanoo like a toy. It was almost impossible to believe that the young Kakashi Hatake—the one who'd had to carefully ration his chakra just to fight Zabuza Momochi—and the later Kakashi, who casually used complete Susanoo for extended battles, were the same person. After the emergence of the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki, chakra consumption simply stopped being an issue. Though Mizuki hadn't fully figured out how it worked, judging by the clone's current state, bluntly speaking, even if it sacrificed its entire physical body, awakening a [Mangekyou Sharingan] would already be considered lucky. Awakening the [Rinnegan]? Out of the question. This kind of power drain couldn't possibly be sustained by a fragile, weak-willed clone with a subpar physique.

But the cursed seal changed everything. Its power wasn't just about pushing the body past its limits—it used the clone's body and mind like a lever, with the cursed seal itself serving as the fulcrum, drawing on infinite natural energy from outside to synthesize something called cursed seal chakra—a superior force far beyond normal chakra, nearly matching [Sage Art Chakra] in purity. Driven by this kind of energy, forcibly exhausting the clone's physical capacity meant fulfilling the basic conditions for awakening the [Rinnegan]. How long the [Rinnegan]'s power lasted would depend entirely on how long the clone's body could endure the strain.

As for why Mizuki ultimately decided not to try seizing the [Rinnegan] from the clone—besides some personal hesitation—the main reason was simple: it was way too dangerous.

Driven by the insane acceleration of the cursed seal, that barely-formed consciousness still wielded terrifying strength. To Mizuki, it was like handing a loaded weapon to a child who didn't understand death—watching them aim it everywhere with a grin. At a moment like that, if an adult tried to snatch away the "toy," without armor-like invulnerability, wouldn't that be suicide? As for other methods that might restrict the [Rinnegan], Mizuki hadn't come up with any yet. Since both represented the highest forms of power in the world, perhaps only Sealing Techniques could offer any real solution.

But without a Rinnegan for Mizuki to work with, what were the odds he could just sit around at home and dream up a sealing technique that could match it? If you could really figure that stuff out just by thinking at home, what was the point of hunting down the Rinnegan in the first place? You could clone yourself a bunch of "Kaguya Lords," knock the Six Paths off their high horse, give the Shinigami something to remember, drag the real form of that so-called god Jashin out and show him what real strength looks like—see exactly what kind of nonsense was hiding behind divine pretenses...

Of course, none of that was anything but wild fantasy when Mizuki had nothing better to do. Maybe one day, if he ever managed to unify the ninja world during his lifetime, he might actually try something like this.

Still, while Mizuki himself was too much of a coward to even think about crossing someone with the Rinnegan, that didn't mean others wouldn't go walking down a self-destructive path. Deidara and Red Sand of the Desert clearly fell into the category of those who sought their own destruction—at least in Mizuki's eyes.

The clone's underdeveloped mind didn't understand ninjutsu or chakra at all—it just lashed out using brute force instinctively. Using the raw repulsive force of [Shinra Tensei], it could instinctively block most attacks, only getting injured by Red Sand of the Desert's puppet because it was careless. But as its control over strength improved, neither Sasori nor Deidara could touch the clone now.

Then, once the clone identified Sasori and Deidara as hostile threats, it went full force—[Planetary Devastation] erupted without warning. The first victim was poor Deidara, who happened to be closest. Instantly, both he and his massive owl were trapped and immobilized. Next, surrounding layers of puppets dragged pieces of the land itself toward the epicenter, slowly assembling into a giant spherical object hovering midair. With rapid compression and hardening, it sealed both Deidara and Sasori inside a stony prison.

Konoha's group had barely gotten clear when the monstrous shockwave hit them—they spun around instantly. That world-shattering power could easily be felt by anyone with a functioning Sensor ability.

"What was that?" Scenes like this and techniques of such overwhelming scale exceeded ordinary ninja comprehension. "Could that still even be considered Ninjutsu?"

"If we define Ninjutsu by the concept of chakra usage, then that huge sealing sphere is also activated and controlled through chakra. In that sense, yes, it qualifies as Ninjutsu..."

"Ninjutsu, huh?" Seeing this spectacle, Hiashi Hyuga murmured quietly to himself.

This scene seemed strikingly similar to top-secret records passed down exclusively among successive clan leaders within the Hyuga clan archives—legends once dismissed as mythical exaggerations passed down through generations. Yet now witnessing such events firsthand, perhaps much of those accounts were real after all?

As one of the oldest and most prestigious clans, the Hyuga clan inherited not only the bloodline of Hamura Otsutsuki, but also many ancient hidden documents dating back thousands of years. Most of these records were unverifiable and had been handed down through generations without drawing any interest. Almost nobody ever read them, so naturally, nothing had ever leaked outside the clan.

"So the Rinnegan — the legendary Sage's Eyes — really exists? If that's true, then the Sage of Six Paths must have really existed too. Then..." Hiashi Hyuga looked up at the faint crescent moon in the sky, lost in thought and saying nothing.
