Naruto: From Extra to Savior

Chapter 128: Chapter 128: Everyone's Differences

With the life-saving pills repeatedly proving their worth on missions—even without revealing the hidden ability of cellular Omnipotence—it was already an incredibly valuable wartime healing aid. Were it not for its obvious and well-known side effects—the depletion of chakra leading to a shortened lifespan—there would have been countless people fighting to take it long ago. With Mizuki's current status, he wasn't yet qualified to monopolize such a strategically important item.

Still, just like Mizuki had said two days ago in front of everyone, keeping it secret was ideal—but if that failed, what harm was there in revealing just a bit? No one else could replicate it anyway. If they couldn't even master Chakra Control, how could they possibly handle something on the cellular level? At the moment, only Tsunade might be qualified to discuss this matter with Mizuki once she returned. Even Sakura Haruno, for all her skill, still hadn't quite made the cut.

Therefore, even if he lost everything he now possessed, Mizuki was confident he could rebuild it all. As long as both himself and Tsubaki were safe, anything else could be selectively abandoned. Once his research started boosting his strength, things would get a lot easier to deal with.

...

Though many memories from his past life had gradually faded with time, thinking back, there hadn't actually been many days after adulthood when someone cooked meals for him, as was happening now. Tsubaki's food always tasted great—in fact, after spending so much time together, she'd gotten to know exactly what Mizuki liked and always made those dishes for him. Sushi, especially mixed sushi, remained Mizuki's favorite. Other dishes like stewed meat or curry, which he hadn't really cared about before, had now become favorites—mostly due to his preferences from his past life.

Reborn twice into different lifetimes, Mizuki often wondered why it was him, rather than someone else, who experienced reincarnation. If he had to guess, it probably came down to compatibility in personality and spirit. The difference was just the era they lived in—one came of age in peaceful times, growing tired and jaded by experience; the other was shaped by war, lost in a desperate hunger for power. The gap between who he wanted to be and who he really was brought out the worst in his personality—jealousy, insecurity, arrogance, recklessness, and self-obsession—and made him indifferent to the people and events around him.

Still, even being born in a relatively peaceful Konoha, no one could say everyone's mind was strong enough to withstand chaos. Take current Mizuki, for example—if he didn't have that overwhelming god-like perspective and the sense of superiority from being an isekai traveler, whether he himself could have fared better was truly questionable.

These few months since his isekai arrival had long erased any notion of treating others as mere unintelligent quest NPCs. In a world full of prodigies and legends, he was just another face in the crowd. The more he learned, the more respect he gained for those towering, legendary figures—they were the ones truly shaping this world, while he was still far behind them.

However, compared to the original Mizuki, his rebirth did grant him one advantage: the vast informational reserves from his previous life shaped a worldview guiding Mizuki toward identifying what truly mattered to him.

Looking at his fiancée tidying up the kitchen, Mizuki felt a sense of peace settle over him.

"People really are social creatures. It's only through coexistence, reliance, and understanding that we can survive."

In Mizuki's eyes, everyone born into this world came burdened with invisible chains, yet somehow managed to live within their limits.

"If you're the chain keeping my life from going off track, then I'm truly lucky."

Ever since he reincarnated into this world, every morning when he opened his eyes, the first thing on his mind was how to deal with the looming apocalypse that had only a few years left. The immense pressure weighing down on him, unable to share this burden with anyone—it was absolutely agonizing. This wasn't some pretend world where you could just play through a simulation; it was a real crisis that he and his loved ones had to face head-on. Count on Naruto and Sasuke? With the butterfly effect going strong, Mizuki didn't even want to imagine what twists the future might bring anymore. All he could do was piece together vague guesses from what he remembered and what was happening now. Knowing the big picture ahead of time hadn't helped much when it came to the little details.

Especially these past few days—during the Chunin Exams, dealing with Orochimaru's Konoha Destruction Plan had exhausted him completely. Then fighting Deidara and Red Sand of the Desert in an unexpected skirmish drained almost half of his remaining life force. This immediate sense of danger left Mizuki, a former white-collar worker who was merely well-informed yet ordinary, utterly bewildered. Occasionally, he'd even think: If nothing's going my way anyway, why not just mass-produce a bunch of fake Rinnegan and blow the whole world to pieces? Or maybe create an ultra-lethal virus or bacteria that sparks a pandemic and wipes out humanity—letting everyone perish together. However, most of these ideas were simply expressions of frustration during bad moods.

"This world still has Tsubaki in it. For that alone, it's worth giving it my best shot..."

Besides, having interacted with so many people lately meant these connections couldn't easily be erased.

"What are you thinking about?" Tsubaki asked Mizuki, who was lost in thought after finishing her cleaning.

"Nothing much. Is everything done?"

"Mm-hmm. Time's still early. Any plans later?"

"Let's just walk around outside randomly. Feels like ages since we last went shopping together."

"You've gone crazy again," Tsubaki smiled with pursed lips. "The village has a curfew tonight. They'll probably close the gates soon. Where exactly would we go?"

"Oh right..." Mizuki awkwardly rubbed his forehead, realizing his mistake. "Looks like nowhere to go. Guess we'll stay home then..."

"That works too." Tsubaki said. "You don't even like reading novels or watching TV. You haven't watched a single thing lately."

"Just got tired of them," Mizuki replied. After living through an age of information overload and reading countless stories back in his old life, how could he possibly find ninja-world tales or boring movies entertaining? He wouldn't even touch them unless seeking extra intelligence.

"Great idea!" Tsubaki suggested enthusiastically. "We can have ourselves a nice conversation instead."

"Chiharu Tsubaki picked up a book from the table whose content was unknown, casually flipping through its pages as she spoke, 'Our wedding is just over a month away, Mizuki. How should we arrange it?'

'Hmm, I guess so... but now really isn't the best time!' With the village still recovering from its losses and many people mourning their loved ones, holding an extravagant ceremony now would seem quite inappropriate.

'Then let's postpone it,' Chiharu said with a sigh.

'Don't rush,' Mizuki said, shaking his head. 'Let's wait for the Fifth Hokage's confirmation before making any decisions.'

'Alright.' Chiharu nodded in agreement. Right now, they had no choice but to play it by ear. Besides, Mizuki still had many unresolved issues needing careful solutions. Waiting for Tsunade's return was particularly crucial. Once she became Fifth Hokage, a lot of problems might just fall into place. Of course, whether it might also become the beginning of another huge problem would have to wait until then to see.

...

While Mizuki and his fiancée Chiharu Tsubaki enjoyed a rare moment together, deep within Konoha village inside a secret chamber, two advisors stood nearby, frowning down at Deidara, who was strapped to a medical bed with his chakra sealed.

'So he's out of danger?' Koharu Utatane asked.

'That's correct,' replied a medical ninja dressed in standard uniform. 'His body has mostly recovered. He's just still unconscious because of lasting effects from his injuries. At most three days, and he will awaken.'

'This is the situation,' Homura Mitokado addressed the slouched figure leaning casually against the doorway behind him. 'Do you have anything to say?'

The other important figure present inside the secret room was none other than Jiraiya himself, who'd recently returned to the village.

'Just looking at his outfit gave me a pretty good idea...' Jiraiya replied casually. 'It really is them. Looks like this organization has officially become active.'

[Black priest robe adorned with red clouds], though burned and torn beyond recognition, still showed traces of its original form.

'Jiraiya, you know as well as I do that this individual's identity is somewhat special. We cannot employ interrogation methods that easily provoke disputes.'

As a disciple of the Third Tsuchikage, even if he were a rogue ninja, mind-reading techniques on someone of this level remain highly tabooed. Overt ninja organizations generally wouldn't attempt such practices unless having made preparations for the worst-case scenario—war itself. Besides, denying everything doesn't always work. The ninja world has countless ways to detect mental interference or forced mind-reading attempts—there's more than one technique designed specifically for that purpose.

As for physical interrogation methods, although less efficient, they remain relatively conventional and won't create misunderstandings about Konoha attempting to steal the Tsuchikage's cherished secret techniques.

Homura continued, 'We need your intelligence to accurately assess the threat level. After all, our village hosts a Jinchuriki ourselves—the strongest one, the Nine-Tails. If what you've stated is true, and even Orochimaru used to belong to that organization, sooner or later our village will inevitably find itself targeted too.'

"This organization is very mysterious. To this day, I haven't gotten much accurate intel on it," Jiraiya said with a shrug. "One thing's for sure—its official membership isn't that big, though most of them are rogue ninja rated S-class or higher. Their power is immense. Orochimaru is just one member among many, and reportedly, there's another Konoha rogue within the group..."

"Uchiha Itachi?" Koharu Utatane asked cautiously.

"There's only one person it could be," Homura Mitokado replied. Aside from Orochimaru, who has already left Akatsuki, among all the Konoha ninja who have left the village, only Uchiha Itachi currently possesses both the strength and qualifications to match that description.

Jiraiya nodded, "Honestly, I don't know much about this so-called genius myself, but I've heard Orochimaru went up against him—and supposedly lost. That's what made him quit the group."

Then Jiraiya grinned wryly, "Well, youth waits for no one—didn't expect the new generation to be this strong. Guess we really are past our prime."

"So powerful already? Uchiha Itachi?" Koharu murmured in astonishment. "Truly the clan's genius—what a shame."

"Jiraiya, you really won't accept the Hokage position?" Homura asked somewhat discontentedly. "You lament your age, yet there are those who refuse to admit theirs..."

The implication was clearly aimed at Danzo Shimura, whose recent overreach had rubbed pretty much everyone the wrong way. Truth be told, otherwise, Homura and Koharu wouldn't have dared to go against Danzo at all.

"I'll pass," Jiraiya said, raising both palms. "Hokage just isn't my thing. Let Tsunade take it instead. She's better suited for the job."

"Alright then," Homura muttered, frowning. "Still, when exactly do you plan to go find Tsunade? Any leads on her whereabouts?"

"I have some rough ideas. I'll go in a few days—waiting for the right opportunity..."

"That works. Lately, the village has been vulnerable—the negotiation team heading to Suna was even forced to turn back. Now's not the time we can let you disappear."

In the end, the two advisors never mentioned how the Konoha team had managed to survive under absolutely disadvantageous conditions until rescue arrived. Hiashi Hyuga's vague mission report meant nobody fully grasped the severity of the problem yet. Naturally, everyone assumed this wasn't the time to investigate deeply; perhaps such issues would be better handled officially later by the Hokage—in Tsunade's name.

...

A quiet night. Hyuga Hiashi remained in his study, flipping through records that might have gone untouched for decades, even centuries. These documents had been passed down through generations, and due to their antiquity, he even found himself consulting mythological tales and books of supernatural legends side-by-side for comparison.

With a specific purpose in mind while examining these half-truth, half-fiction accounts, Hiashi gradually began discovering some patterns emerging.

"[The Goddess of the Rabbit Hour], huh? Unknown origin—quite the mysterious figure indeed. [Rinnegan], [Sage's Eyes]? Could she be the [Progenitor of Chakra]?"

"Then where does the [Byakugan] come from? How was the legendary [Tenseigan] obtained?"

Although these records contained valuable information, they also raised more confusion and unanswered questions. Much of the last millennium was consumed by war and chaos, leaving most records fragmented or unreliable, making many details impossible to verify.

As Lord Hiashi Hyuga pored over the records, his head throbbed from hours of studying, when a knock came at the study door.

"Who's there?"

"It's me," Hanabi called out, pushing the door open. "Father, it's late. You should rest now."

"I understand. Where is your elder sister?"

"Here..."

Before she could finish speaking, Hinata hesitated, then stepped forward from the shadows.

"You're just in time," said Hiashi Hyuga. "There's something I need you to do."
