Chapter 57: Kamizuru Clan
The Kamizuru Clan, known for their mastery over insects, hailed from Iwagakure and stood alongside the Aburame Clan as one of the villages noble houses. However, over time, their numbers dwindled, leaving only a handful of members, some as fierce as big cats, others as small and nimble as kittens.
Their decline began around the Third Great shinobi War, after a decisive defeat at the hands of the Aburame Clan, which gradually pushed the Kamizuru to the sidelines within Iwagakure. But for the current lord of the Land of Grass, clan origin didn't matter much; what mattered was that the shinobi were loyal and obedient.
Charlie quietly assigned the mission without overthinking it, leaving the rest to Mujie. After all, as the lord of the Land of Grass, Charlie couldnt afford to get entangled in every detail.
If Konoha ever caught wind of the Kusagakure lord loudly accusing their shinobi of betraying allies and lacking moral integrity, it would be a huge embarrassment. The villages reputation would take a serious hit. And if things went wrong, the official line would be that the unauthorized decision was made by a senior advisor without the villages knowledge.
The Land of Grass would emphasize its commitment to peace, respect for sovereignty, non-aggression, and equality, and claim they had already disciplined the advisor for acting without permission.
Charlie glanced over the documents in his hand and sighed with a hint of admiration. "Mujie, you really might come in handy after all."
Mujie, having received the secret mission from Charlie, turned the papers over in his hands silently. Then, a slight twitch at the corner of his mouth as he looked up at the Kusa shinobi who delivered the message.
"So, whats the boss cooking up this time?" he muttered. "Trying to recruit shinobi from the Five Great Shinobi Villages? No way!
The Kamizuru Clan wasn't like the fallen Uzumaki or Chinoike clans; they were a respected noble family in Iwagakure.
Living comfortably in their village, how could they betray their own home and come running to some backwater like the Kusagakure?
Mujies voice was gruff as he said, "Let the lord worry about that. But whatever happens, keep it quiet."
He recalled how the Kusagakure once sold false intel to the Five Great Villages, and look what happened: they got completely wiped out. It was a total disaster.
Now, They're even thinking about poaching shinobi from those villages? Do they really think its that easy? Even if those clans were struggling, they would never let outsiders steal their people.
Mujie scoffed, muttering to himself, "I knew it, the lords is a good guy, huh? Those Sannin from Konoha must be crazy to think the lords a good person.
Good people Don't become lords of the Kusagakure! How could he possibly be good?"
He glanced curiously at a Kusa shinobi who was jotting notes in a small notebook. "Hey, what are you writing down?"
"Oh, this? Its the lords orders, to record our conversation," the shinobi replied.
Mujie grimaced but quickly corrected himself. "No wonder the lords so visionary, he wants to strengthen the country.
Whats most important? Talent! The lord always talks about talent. If the Kusagakure lacks talent, what do we do? Of course, we steal it... or bring it in!
These days, the big shinobi clans are fed up with how their villages exploit them. That's not nurturing shinobi, That's turning them into tools! They Don't treat shinobi like people at all."
He sighed and stood up. "Only our Kusagakure, under the lords guidance, is thriving! We value talent!
We protect talent! We would never treat our shinobi as tools!
That shows the Kusagakures tolerance and kindness. Otherwise, why would the Uzumaki and Chinoike clans join us so easily? The Kusagakure is built on love."
After he finished, the Kusa shinobi gave Mujie a strange look. No wonder he'd done some advanced studies in prison, he clearly had his whole speech down.
Just then, a clansman hurried to the door. "Advisor Mujie, someones here to visit. They say They're a shinobi from Iwagakure!"
The two exchanged a quick, silent glance. The Kusa shinobi bowed slightly. "I'll return to report then. Sorry to trouble you, Advisor Mujie!"
As he turned to leave, Mujie called out loudly, "Wait! Hold on!Leave that little notebook here!"
But the Kusa shinobi seemed not to hear him. Without drawing any attention, he quietly slipped away, vanishing from Mujies sight.
Mujie stared out the window, sighing inwardly. No wonder They're Kusa shinobi, those guys are fast! By now, there was no sign of him outside.
"Damn it! If the lord gives me a hard time over this, I'll give it right back!" he muttered, shaking his head. Then he straightened himself up.
"Forget it. I should go see those Iwa shinobi now. They came looking for me instead of the lord? This must be serious."
Putting on a bright smile once more, he headed to the living room, where he found the Iwa shinobi waiting, just one person this time. It was Kodo, the jounin from Iwagakure.
Mujie quickly sat down, cheerful as ever. "Tea! Tea! You really have no manners, jounin Kodo is a distinguished guest of the Kusagakure!"
"Uh... no need to bother," Kodo replied.
"Of course, we insist!" Mujie said, watching the serious expression on Kodos face.
Then, bluntly, he asked, "So, jounin Kodo, what brings you here? Need some help?
Don't hesitate to say it! The Kusagakure lives by shinobi loyalty, wed go through fire and water for our brothers!"
Kodo twitched at the corner of his mouth, sensing something off about Mujies tone.
Taking a deep breath, he said seriously, "I'm here at the Tsuchikages request to discuss forming an alliance with the Kusagakure."
"Great! Great! That sounds perfect! The Kusagakure loves making friends!" Mujie said enthusiastically.
"Advisor Mujie, you know I Don't mean it like that," Kodo said, eyeing Mujie overly cheerful face. He recalled how every time the conversation got serious lately, it was quickly derailed.
This time, he paused, then spoke directly, "Your villages location is crucial. It borders both Iwa and the Land of Fire. If war breaks out between them..."
He left the sentence hanging. Mujie stood up, matching Kodos serious tone.
"I understand what you mean. But just a few days ago, the lord issued a policy: the Land of Grass will not take part in any war between the major nations.
The Land of Grass is a peaceful country! So if Iwagakure and Konoha go to war, Kusa will stay neutral."
Kodo was silent for a moment. 'A peaceful country? Do you Kusa people really deserve that title?' he wondered quietly.
